LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;The No. 17 Kansas Jayhawks took down No. 2 Baylor, 71-58, Saturday night in Allen Fieldhouse, extending Kansas’ streak to 38 consecutive wins on senior day.

The Jayhawks improve to 18-8 overall and finish the regular season 12-6 in conference play, while handing Baylor (18-1, 10-1 Big 12) its first loss of the season.

The Jayhawks came out strong and started with David McCormack going 4-for-4 from the floor, giving the Jayhawks their first eight points.

Just before the 10-minute mark in the first half, Baylor was able to tie Kansas at 13, and pull ahead with a Mitchell 3-pointer. The first half was a back-and-forth affair, but KU claimed the lead again at 22-20 with 6:22 to go until the break.

The lead continued to change, but with just under a minute left in the half, sophomore Christian Braun picked up a foul from Macio Teague on a layup for the and one, putting the Jayhawks ahead 31-30. With 27 seconds left in the first, senior Marcus Garrett had a layup to secure the 33-30 lead going into the locker room on his senior night.

Kansas led the entirety of the second half, only allowing Baylor to come within one possession after Teague got the and one after a foul from Ochai Agbaji to make the score 42-45. Dajuan Harris Jr., answered with a layup and a free throw on back-to-back Kansas possessions to bring the Jayhawks ahead by seven.

The Jayhawks continued to dominate, shooting 52.2% (12-23) from the field in the second half and grabbing 25 rebounds.

In the last five minutes of play, the Jayhawks attempted 13 free throws and successfully made 10 of them. The last point of the game was Garrett closing out his senior night with a free throw to tie the Jayhawks’ largest lead of the game and secure the 71-58 win against the Bears.

38&nbsp;– The win over the Bears marked the 38th-consecutive Kansas victory on a senior night, which started in the 1983-84 season.

Just under the 12-minute mark in the second half, senior Mitch Lightfoot had a defensive rebound for Kansas. On the offensive side of the court, the Jayhawks were able to get the ball to Harris and set him up for a 3-point jumper which gave the team the momentum to push through and secure the win.

The Hutchinson Community College baseball team made another schedule change to take advantage of the good February weather for Saturday.

Hutchinson (2-1) will take on No. 9 Cowley in a doubleheader at 1 and 3:30 p.m. at Hobart-Detter Field. The Blue Dragon Sports Network will stream both contests beginning at 12:50 p.m.

After two weeks of dormancy after their February 2 season opener at NOC-Enid, the Blue Dragons shuffled their schedule this week. Hutchinson added the Tabor College JV on Wednesday and swept the Bluejays 13-3 and 10-0. Both games were five-inning run rules and Game 2 was the first no-hitter by the Blue Dragon pitching staff since 2008, a five-man combined effort.

Cowley, the favorite to win both the Jayhawk East and Region VI titles this season played their first games this past Monday, winning a pair of neutral field games in Edmond, Oklahoma. The Tigers mauled NOC-Enid 31-4 in five innings and blasted NEO 20-9 in seven innings.

The last time Hutchinson and Cowley met was the championship game of the 2019 Region VI Tournament at Eck Stadium in Wichita.

There is no admission for Saturday's games at Hobart-Detter Field, but because of KJCCC Covid protocols, only the first 125 people through the gate will be admitted and masks will be required at all times.

GAINSVILLE, Texas – The euphoria of four dominant wins to start the season for the Hutchinson Community College softball team was replaced by the sting of a pair of one-run losses on Friday.

The Blue Dragons let sizable leads slip away in both games on Friday at North Central Texas and lost 9-8 and 9-8.

Hutchinson drops to 4-2 and will travel to play Murray State College (6-2) at Noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday in Tishomingo, Oklahoma.

Offensively, freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2020-21/bios/grimes_madison_qa73">Madison Grimes</a>&nbsp;continues her early-season tear with five more hits and five more RBIs on Friday. Through six games, Grimes is hitting .800 (16 of 20) with 12 runs scored and 16 RBIs.

The Blue Dragons, though, weren't able to hold off a North Central Texas offense that had several key hits late in each game, including a bases-clearing triple and a three-run inside-the-park home run that gave the Lions late leads in both games.

Hutchinson had leads of 4-1 and 7-4 in the opening game. The Lions scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth when Sasha Williams laced a triple to tie the game and scored the go-ahead run on a Blue Dragon throwing error.

Hutchinson's offense combined for 17 runs on 26 hits, but the Blue Dragons stranded 16 runners on base. In addition to Grimes, catcher&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2020-21/bios/williams_lexi_p2uv">Lexi Williams</a>&nbsp;and second baseman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2020-21/bios/head_easton_e2iz">Easton Head</a>&nbsp;also had huge performance on Friday. Williams was a combined 5 for 8 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Head 4 for 7 with a home run.

GAME 1 RECAP Head's sacrifice fly gave Hutchinson a 4-1 lead in the third inning. Grimes and a two-run double and Bevan followed that with a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth to give the Dragons a 7-3 lead.

After scoring an unearned run in the fourth, NCTC had its first three batters of the sixth reach base. Jennings clear the bases with a triple and scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error after she originally stopped at third. NCTC led 8-7 heading to the seventh.

Hutchinson got the tying run on when Dunn led off with a single, but the Blue Dragons were unable to produce a run and dropped their first game of the season.

Bailey allowed six hits and five runs, three were earned with a strikeout. Loney worked the first 2 2-3 innings, giving up seven hits, three earned runs and a walk.

GAME 2 RECAP The Blue Dragons scored eight runs over their first four at-bats. Hutch scored five runs in the second inning. Carley Sternecker's double drove in a run. Williams had an RBI single and Grimes plated two runs on a single in a five-run second.

Head led off the third with a home run and had a two-out RBI single in the fourth to give the Blue Dragons an 8-2 lead after 3 1/2 innings.

Rough start to road trip for Blue Dragon Softball

The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team will have logged 922 miles between Wednesday's road trip to Northwest Tech and Saturday's battle at Seward County in Liberal.

The Blue Dragons hope to go 2-0 on their two longest road trips of the season.

The Blue Dragons (7-3, 6-3) take on the Saints (2-5, 2-5) at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Green House. The game time was moved up because the women's game was postponed until March 8.

The first half of the two-game road trip was highly successful as the Blue Dragons defeated Northwest Tech 94-61. The Blue Dragons dominated the second half, outscoring the Mavericks 56-32 and held Tech to an opponent-low 29.4 percent shooting.

Five players scored in double figures for Hutchinson, led by sophomore Stephen Gabriel's 18 points.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2020-21/bios/taylor_donovan_m0h7">Donovan Taylor</a>&nbsp;has season highs of 18 points and three 3-point goals and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2020-21/bios/mayers_matt_jfk4">Matt Mayers</a>&nbsp;posted his sixth double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Seward County has lost three games in a row, the latest was a 92-67 setback to Dodge City, the team Hutchinson is tied for first with in the Jayhawk West.

The Saints allowed 55.9 percent shooting to the Conqs. The Saints shot 42.2 percent but committed 24 turnovers.

The Blue Dragons will go up against the fourth-best scoring defense in the Jayhawk Conference. Seward County is allowing 74.6 points per game with opponents shooting 30.7 percent.

Over its last five games, the Blue Dragons have been much better offensively. Averaging 83.0 points for the season, the Dragons have averaged 90.8 points - scoring 90 or more points in the last three games - and have shot 52.2 percent from the field.

Hutchinson also started to find the range from beyond the 3-point line again. Since hitting 10 3-pointers in the season opener vs. Seminole State, Hutch has averaged only 2.0 3-pointers per game. The Dragons sank eight 3-pointers against Northwest Tech on Wednesday.

Hutch swept the series last season with Seward, winning 68-67 at the Green House and 67-47 at the Sports Arena.

Kansas is 11-1 in Allen Fieldhouse this season. The Jayhawks are coming off a 75-72 overtime loss at No. 14/16 Texas on Feb. 23. Baylor is coming off a 77-72 win versus Iowa State Feb. 23.

The Kansas-Baylor series dates back to 1951 with the Jayhawks leading 33-7. Kansas has won 14 of the last 17 in the series and holds an 19-5 advantage in the last 24 meetings but Baylor has won two of the last three battles. NEW YORK (AP) — The Brooklyn Nets will be spending more time without Kevin Durant.

The team says the forward will be out through the All-Star break because of a hamstring injury that already has forced him to miss the Nets' last six games. Durant was the top vote-getter for the Eastern Conference All-Star team.

The Nets are riding an eight-game winning streak, their longest since moving to Brooklyn. They will play at least three more games without Durant.

The Bruins have followed Thursday's 7-2 loss to the Islanders by getting blasted by the Rangers, 6-2. 

Ryan Strome (strohm) had a goal and an assist for the Blueshirts, who had fans in the stands for the first time since last March. Chris Kreider added a goal and an assist as the Rangers won for the third time in four games.

UNDATED (AP) — The San Jose Sharks have returned to practice and are set to play the St. Louis Blues as scheduled on Saturday night after having one game postponed because a player tested positive for the coronavirus.

Tomas Hertl was placed on the COVID-19 list on Wednesday, leading to the team canceling practice that day and postponing Thursday's game against Vegas. With no other players or staff testing positive since then, the Sharks were allowed to return to practice Friday and will host St. Louis the next night.

Braves extend manager Brian Snitker through at least 2023

UNDATED (AP) — The Atlanta Braves have extended the contract of manager Brian Snitker through the 2023 season with a club option for 2024. 

The 65-year-old Snitker took over the Braves on an interim basis in 2016 when the club was in the midst of a massive rebuilding job. Atlanta has captured the last three NL East titles and recently won a playoff series for the first time in 19 years, coming within one victory of the 2020 World Series.

The Braves are 353-317 in four seasons under Snitker, including a 72-90 mark as a rookie skipper

— Veteran right-hander Jesse Chavez has re-signed with the Angels on a minor league deal. Chavez will join the Angels' spring training camp in Tempe, Arizona, after he clears their intake protocols. Chavez spent the past two seasons back with the Rangers, struggling last season with a 6.88 ERA. 

— Three players were positive for COVID-19 among 900 samples during the second week of spring training testing. Major League Baseball says there had been 15 positives overall among more than 5,200 tests thus far during spring training, a positive rate of 0.3%. 

— The Rockies say they've been approved to allow 12,500 fans per game at Coors Field this season, or 25% of the stadium capacity. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment agreed to the club's request to allow fans back into the stands. 

UNDATED (AP) — The number of minority hires for open positions in the NFL nearly doubled to 34.6% in 2021. That's according to a league demographics study obtained by The Associated Press.

The minority hirings include three general managers, two head coaches, three offensive coordinators, six defensive coordinators, four special teams coordinators, three quarterbacks coaches. 

The minority hiring rate was 18.8% in 2020. Interview requests for minority candidates increased to 47% from 22% in 2020. 

NCAA lifts Ga Tech hoop scholarship, recruiting sanctions

UNDATED (AP) — The NCAA has overturned scholarship and recruiting limitations placed on Georgia Tech's men's basketball team in 2019.

The NCAA Division I Infractions Appeals Committee overturned the reduction of one scholarship per year for four years. It also restores Georgia Tech's freedom to schedule official recruiting trips in conjunction with home games. The Committee on Infractions will reconsider the sanctions at a date which has not been announced. 

The penalties were the result of the NCAA finding major recruiting violations were committed by former Georgia Tech assistant coach Darryl LaBarrie as well as coach Josh Pastner's former friend, Ron Bell. Pastner was not directly named in the findings.

— Indianapolis will relax coronavirus restrictions on the city's bars and restaurants starting next week ahead of the upcoming Big Ten and NCAA men's basketball tournaments. The changes will allow bars to operate at 50% capacity instead of 25% starting Monday. Restaurants will see their indoor restaurant capacity increase from 50% to 75%. Bars, restaurants and music venues will also be able to close two hours later, at 2 a.m.

BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — Brooks Koepka (KEHP'-kah) is the leader through two rounds of the WGC Workday Championship in Florida. 

Koepka followed Thursday's 67 with a 6-under 66 that puts him 11 under, one shot ahead of Collin Morikawa, Cameron Smith and Billy Horschel. 

Morikawa made up ground quick with six birdies over his last 10 holes.

Tony Finau (FEE'-now), Webb Simpson and Matthew Fitzpatrick are two strokes back and one ahead of Patrick Reed and Kevin Kisner.

Mickelson opened with a 3-under 70 at the Cologuard Classic. 

Mickelson was four shots behind Mike Weir, who had a bogey-free 66 in windy conditions at Tucson National. Lefty is bidding to become the first player to win his first three starts on a PGA-sanctioned tour.

Former British gymnasts allege physical, psychological abuse

UNDATED (AP) — Three Olympians and several other former gymnasts are taking legal action against British Gymnastics, saying Friday they have been the victims of decades of physical and psychological abuse by coaches.

The litany of allegations by 17 female claimants includes bullying, controlling behavior and inappropriate use of physical force against athletes as young as 6 years old in a "winning at all costs" mentality.

British athletes have come forward over the past year following allegations of abuse in gymnastics in the United States.

LAWRENCE, Kan.&nbsp;– Kansas men’s basketball has added a non-conference game and will host Texas-El Paso (UTEP), on Thursday, March 4, at 7 p.m., in Allen Fieldhouse. The game will be televised on an ESPN platform with specifics to be announced.

Tickets for the UTEP game will go on sale to Williams Education Fund donors on Friday, Feb 26. Should tickets remain after the donor pre-sale, the remaining inventory will be donated to first responders. Student tickets will be available for students who purchased the All-Sports Combo on Friday, Feb 26 and if inventory allows, all other students on Monday, March 1.

The added game was made possible because KU’s non-conference contest against Tarleton State on Dec. 13 was cancelled due to COVID protocols in the Tarleton State program.

UTEP is currently 10-10 overall and is tied for fifth place in the Conference USA West standings. The Miners are coached by Rodney Terry who is 35-46 in his third season at UTEP and 161-154 in his 10th&nbsp;season overall.

The Kansas-UTEP series dates back to 1966 with the Miners leading 3-1. The first meeting was an epic 81-80 overtime win for UTEP, then known as Texas Western, in second round of the NCAA Tournament in Lubbock, Texas. Texas Western went on to win the 1966 NCAA title. KU won the last matchup with UTEP, 67-63, on Nov. 30, 2013, in the third-place game of the Battle 4 Atlantis. This will be the first meeting between the two schools in Lawrence.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Hunter Dickinson gave Luka Garza fits around the basket, and Franz Wagner scored 21 points to lead No. 3 Michigan to a 79-57 victory over No. 9 Iowa.
