UNDATED (AP) — Iowa State has climbed to No. 6 in The Associated Press women's basketball poll. That is the best ranking for the program in 20 years and it comes with big games against No. 14 Texas and No. 15 Oklahoma this week. &nbsp;South Carolina remained a unanimous No 1 in the poll, followed by Stanford, Louisville, N.C. State and Indiana. No. 7 Baylor and No. 8 Arizona follow Iowa State while Michigan fell from fourth to ninth after two losses. UConn dropped two spots to No. 10.

Valieva "happy" following doping hearing 

BEIJING (AP) — Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva (val-YAY'-vah) says she's happy but worn out after a grueling doping hearing ended with her being allowed to skate at the Beijing Games.

The 15-year-old tells Russian state broadcaster Channel One that the past few days have been very difficult for her. Valieva is the favorite for the gold medal in the women's competition.

Valieva's lawyers say she failed a doping test before the Olympics because of contamination from medication her grandfather was taking. 

There won't be a medal ceremony if Valieva finishes in the top three because the International Olympic Committee is concerned she could still be banned over a failed drug test from Dec. 25. That test was not revealed until after she won team gold with the Russian Olympic Committee last week.

— Mikaela Shiffrin is still planning to enter a total of six Alpine skiing races at the Beijing Olympics. The two-time Olympic gold medalist from the United States confirmed those plans after finishing 18th in the downhill. That comes after she did not finish the giant slalom or slalom and then came in ninth in the super-G. Next up will be the Alpine combined on Thursday.

— The United States has won its second speedskating medal of the Beijing Olympics, taking the bronze in men's team pursuit. With 36-year-old Joey Mantia leading three American skaters through all eight laps, the U.S. denied Sven Kramer of the Netherlands his 10th career medal.

— The top-seeded United States will face Slovakia in the quarterfinals of the men's hockey tournament at the Beijing Olympics. Slovakia beat Germany 4-0 to knock the defending silver medalists out of the tournament. The U.S. goes into the knockout round as the only team to win all three of its group games in regulation. 

— Canada has won speedskating gold in women's team pursuit after a skater for defending Olympic champion Japan fell on the final turn. Japan appeared to be heading for a second straight gold medal in the event, holding a lead of about 0.3 seconds with a half lap to go. But the final athlete in the three-skater train, Nana Takagi, lost her balance and skidded into the padding coming through the final turn.

— Sofia Goggia has come back less than a month after a bad crash and serious leg injury to compete in the downhill at the Beijing Olympics and earn the silver medal behind champion Corinne Suter. Goggia won the downhill for Italy four years ago at the Pyeongchang Games. She wasn't sure she would be able to race today. 

— Eileen Gu took home another medal with a second-place finish in the women's ski slopestyle competition. That means she could still become the first action-sports athlete to capture three medals at the same Winter Games. Gu's bid for another gold medal was thwarted by Mathilde Gremaud of Switzerland. 

— Su Yiming gave host China its second gold medal, matching Eileen Gu with a stunning show in front of fans and winning the country's first top prize in Olympic snowboarding.

— Anna Gasser of Austria has won her second straight Olympic gold medal in women's snowboarding big air. The 30-year-old Gasser held off a field with an average age of 21, including slopestyle winner Zoi Sadowski Synnott of New Zealand. Sadowski Synnott took silver Tuesday.

— The defending Olympic champion U.S. men's curling team beat Switzerland 7-4 and moved within reach of a playoff berth. John Shuster's team is in fourth place after its fourth win, with remaining matches against the two bottom teams in the standings.

UNDATED (AP) — The Brooklyn Nets' 11-game losing streak is over, thanks in part to one of their newcomers. 

Seth Curry scored 23 points in his Nets debut, a 109-85 rout of the Kings. Curry was one of five Nets who finished in double figures. Bruce Brown set season-highs with 19 points, six assists, and five steals. LaMarcus Aldridge finished with 19 points, Cam Thomas added 14 off the bench and Andre Drummond contributed 11 in his first game for Brooklyn.

Curry, Drummond and Ben Simmons were acquired in the deal that sent James Harden to the 76ers. Coach Steve Nash says Simmons' Nets debut won't be immediate.

— Anfernee Simons scored 31 points and the Trail Blazers capitalized on the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo (YAH'-nihs an-teh-tah-KOON'-poh) to beat the Bucks, 122-107 for their third straight victory. Simons has averaged 30 points and has shot 18 of 39 from 3-point range during this winning streak. Antetokounmpo didn't play for the Bucks due to a sore left ankle. 

— DeMar DeRozan scored 19 of his 40 points in the fourth quarter of the Bulls' fourth straight victory, 120-109 over the Spurs. It was DeRozan's seventh straight game with at least 30 points, extending his career high. Nikola Vucevic (VOO'-seh-vihch) had 25 points and 16 rebounds for Chicago, while Coby White made five 3-pointers and finished with 24 points.

— Terance Mann provided 14 of his season-high 25 points while the Clippers outscored the Warriors, 33-19 in the third quarter of a 119-104 decision over Golden State. Mann was 6 of 7 from the field in the third before finishing with seven rebounds and six assists. Reggie Jackson added 19 points and Ivica Zubac (ih-VEET'-sah ZOO'-bahts) had 18 with eight rebounds for the winners.

— With Rudy Gobert (goh-BEHR') back in the lineup, Donovan Mitchell scored 30 points. Bojan (BOY'-ahn) Bogdanovic added 22 in leading the Jazz to a 135-101 thrashing of the Rockets. Gobert had 14 points and seven rebounds before receiving his second technical foul and an automatic ejection midway through the final period.

— The Nuggets were 121-111 winners over the Magic as Nikola Jokic (nih-KOH'-lah YOH'-kihch) furnished 26 points to lead six Denver players in double figures. Jeff Green and Will Barton added 17 points apiece and Bryn Forbes had 16 for Denver. Bones Hyland chipped in 14 points as the Nuggets won for the fourth time in five games since a three-game skid.

— CJ McCollum delivered 23 points and the Pelicans shot a season-best 58.4% to defeat the Raptors, 120-90. Brandon Ingram had 10 points and 11 rebounds and eight assists in just 29 minutes, leaving him two short of his first triple-double. Jonas Valanciunas (YOH'-nuhs val-ehn-CHOO'-nahs) had 18 points and nine rebounds in the rout.

— Josh Giddey had a triple-double of 28 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds to lead the Thunder's 127-123 overtime victory against the Knicks. Tre Mann added 30 points and Darius Bazley chipped in 23 as Oklahoma City stopped a five-game losing streak. New York wasted an 11-point, second-half deficit and Julius Randle's triple-double of 30 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in the Knicks' ninth loss in 11 games.

— Kyle Kuzma (KOOZ'-mah) scored 17 of his 23 points in the third quarter of the Wizards' 103-94 victory against the Pistons. Deni Avdija had 12 points and a career-high 15 rebounds as Washington sent Detroit to its eighth straight loss. Saddiq Bey (sah-DEEK' bay) led the Pistons with 24 points.

UNDATED (AP) — Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen will replace James Harden at this year's All-Star Game. 

Allen is an All-Star for the first time and will join teammate Darius Garland for this year's event in Cleveland, giving the Cavs two All-Stars for the first time since 2018. 

Harden is dealing with a left hamstring issue that is delaying his debut with the Philadelphia 76ers after being traded by the Brooklyn Nets. Harden was chosen by coaches as an All-Star reserve. 

— Bulls guard Zach LaVine (lah-VEEN') is slated to visit with doctors in Los Angeles on Tuesday, looking for more answers about periodic soreness in his surgically repaired left knee. LaVine is missing his second straight game tonight as the Bulls host the Spurs, Coach Billy Donovan said LaVine also will miss Wednesday night's matchup with Sacramento.

— Tyreke Evans (ty-REEK') is eligible to return to the NBA after being reinstated by the league and the National Basketball Players Association. The fourth player taken in the 2009 draft by Sacramento was dismissed and disqualified from the league in 2019 for testing positive for a prohibited substance under the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program. Evans will become an unrestricted free agent Friday, meaning he can negotiate a contract with any team.

Providence climbed to No. 8 for its highest ranking since January 2016.

UNDATED (AP) — A two-goal deficit did little to cool off the Minnesota Wild on Monday.

The Wild earned a 7-4 win over the Red Wings as rookie Matt Boldy recorded his first career hat trick and had an assist. The Wings led 2-0 until Boldy scored twice in a 2:05 span of the first period. He completed his hat trick in the second period with his second power-play goal of the night.

Kirill Kaprizov has two goals and an assist, and Mats Zuccarello set up three tallies for Minnesota.

— The Oilers posted a 3-0 win at San Jose behind Stuart Skinner, who made 20 saves in his first career shutout. — Alex DeBrincat (deh-BRIHN'-kat) scored his 28th goal midway through the third period to push the Blackhawks past the Jets, 3-1. Patrick Kane had a goal and an assist, and Brandon Hagel added an empty-netter. Marc-Andre Fleury made 30 saves for the Blackhawks, who have won twice in their last six games.

UNDATED (AP) — The Calgary Flames have acquired forward Tyler Toffoli (tah-FOH'-lee) from the Montreal Canadiens for two players and two draft picks. 

Toffoli has nine goals and 26 points in 37 games this season. The 29-year-old Toronto native has appeared in 614 career NHL games with Montreal, Los Angeles and Vancouver, recording 182 goals and 370 points. 

Montreal receives forward Tyler Pitlick, prospect Emil Heineman, a first-round pick in the 2022 NHL draft and a fifth-round selection next year. 

— Jack Eichel (EYE'-kul) will make his debut with the Golden Knights on Wednesday. LONDON (AP) — Novak Djokovic said in an interview broadcast Tuesday that he is prepared to skip the French Open and Wimbledon if vaccination against the coronavirus is required for him to play.

Speaking to the BBC, the 20-time Grand Slam champion said he is not vaccinated and added that missing the next two majors, where he is the defending champion, and other tournaments is "the price that I am willing to pay."

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — An attorney for Bob Baffert believes the Hall of Famer trainer and embattled Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit "will be fully exonerated" after stating to Kentucky racing stewards that the colt's failed drug test for a steroid resulted from a prescribed topical salve rather than an injection.

Medina Spirit's Derby win is in jeopardy following the failed postrace drug test last May. Churchill Downs has suspended Baffert for two years following the latest in a recent series of failed tests by his horses. Representatives for Baffert and the horse met Monday with Kentucky Horse Racing Association stewards and contended there was no violation because state rules allow the use of topical salves.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — An experienced Activities Director will be taking over the reins in Hutchinson USD 308.  According to Monday's personnel report from the USD 308 Board of Education meeting, Jon McLean was hired as Activities Director beginning in the 2022-2023 school year for Hutchinson High School. McLean will replace the retiring Kevin Armstrong.&nbsp;

McLean has served as an Activities Director most recently at Nickerson-South Hutchinson USD 309. 

He also coached girls basketball and was an assistant prinicipal at Nickerson, but McLean told KWBW's Rob Dreher that after 31 years of coaching, including a stint at Buhler, he is hanging up the whistle after this season and will be working solely as the AD at Hutch High.

KU wins over OSU Monday

GOODLAND, Kan. — No. 19 Hutchinson (20-6, 14-6) escaped Goodland with its second straight win Monday night after a three-game slide.&nbsp;

The Dragons built a 12-point halftime lead, but found themselves up only one with 3.9 seconds left.&nbsp;

A well-designed inbound helped Hutchinson run out the clock. One problem: there was a miscommunication between the officials and the clock operator.

Because the clock didn't run properly, three-tenths of a second were taken off the clock since Hutchinson legally touched the ball in its frontcourt after a long heave from the opposite baseline.&nbsp;

With 3.6 seconds left, Hutchinson was forced to inbound again, this time under its own goal.&nbsp;

Kobe Campbell took the inbound and was immediately fouled.&nbsp;

He hit both free throws to put the Dragons up three.&nbsp;

Northwest Tech (7-19, 4-16) got one last chance to tie with a halfcourt shot that drew back iron, but missed.&nbsp;

Kaimen Lennox made 5 of 7 threes and finished with 24 points.&nbsp;

Off the bench, Campbell added 20 and Cecil Lee had 14.&nbsp;

The Dragons made 14 three-pointers (45.2%).

Hantz Louis-Jeune scored 27 for the Mavs. Timothy Moore added 22.

The Mavericks (4-20, 2-18) shot just 30.7% in the first half on eight made baskets.&nbsp;

Four Hutchinson starters scored in double digits.&nbsp;

Mya Williams followed up a career-high 37 points with 28 against Northwest Kansas Tech. She also grabbed seven rebounds.&nbsp;

Kalyn Ervin (14), Tor'e Alford (13) and Mel Kailahi (10) rounded out the double-digit scoring.&nbsp;

The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team earned a much-needed victory on Saturday at the Sports Arena over the Colby Trojans.

Now entering the final 10 days of the regular season, the Blue Dragons look to build some needed momentum from that victory with Monday road trip to Northwest Tech.

Campbell had a career-high 25 points, while Yow added his fifth double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds in the victory. Lennox scored 10 of his 12 points in the final five minutes of regulation and overtime.

The Blue Dragons (19-6) enter play on Monday tied with Butler for third place in the Jayhawk Conference at 13-6. Hutchinson is still looking to clinch one of the top four places in the conference to secure a first-round bye in the upcoming Region VI Tournament. The Blue Dragons are 2.5 games ahead of fifth-place Coffeyville for one of the coveted top four spots.

Monday's game is the second in a stretch of four games in six days. After returning from Goodland, the Dragons have just one day to prepare for back-to-back games against Seward County and Butler on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

Northwest Tech is in 13th place in the KJCCC and is in danger of missing the postseason as only the top 12 teams advance to the Region VI Tournament. The Mavericks trail 12th-place Seward County by two games after a 54-52 road loss to the Saints on Saturday,

Hutchinson won the first meeting with the Mavericks on January 5 at the Sports Arena, defeating Tech 96-77. The Dragons led by four points at half before outscoring Tech 50-35 in the second half.

Just 48 hours before Monday's key road game at Northwest Tech, the Blue Dragons received a career night from freshman guard&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2021-22/bios/williams_mya_q2zy">Mya Williams</a>&nbsp;en route to an 86-75 win at Colby. Just 48 hours after Monday's game in Goodland - a 6:30 p.m. CT tipoff at Max Jones Fieldhouse - the Blue Dragons will play host to Seward County and one day later, the Dragons head to Goodland.

The Blue Dragons' victory over Colby extended Hutchinson's season-long win streak to nine games and pulled the Dragons to within 0.5 games of first-place Independence, which loss on Saturday at Pratt. Independence plays host to Dodge City on Monday.

Williams scored a career-high 37 points with a career-high-tying seven 3-pointers in the Blue Dragons' 11-point home win over Colby on Saturday. Williams tied for the fifth-highest single-game performance in Blue Dragon history with Amy Ansel (1995).

Over her last four games, the Jayhawk Conference's leading scorer has been on a tear. Williams is averaging 25.2 points while shooting 68.7 percent with 18 3-pointers.

The Blue Dragons take on a Northwest Tech team fighting for its postseason life as the season enters the final days. The Mavericks are 4-19 overall and are tied with Pratt for 12th at 2-17. Only the Top 12 teams advance to the Region VI Tournament.

The Mavericks are capable of an upset. Northwest Tech pulled off a 64-59 upset of fourth-place Garden City last Wednesday at Max Jones Fieldhouse. Natalie Lara had 20 points and Neylan Delicado added 17 points.

KU hangs on over OU Saturday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — No. 18 Hutchinson (19-6, 13-6) needed overtime to snap a three-game skid.

The Dragons were once again without leading scorer Angelo Stuart, but got a big boost from Kobe Campbell and Jacquez Yow.

Campbell poured in 25 points off the bench and Yow added 23.

The Dragons took a 50-44 lead at halftime over Colby (14-10, 9-9).

At the break, HutchCC presented a $10,010 check to the Cancer Council of Reno County on the 10th annual Pink Out Night.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Every three made by the men's and women's teams also added to that total. The teams made 22 total and fans pledged nearly $200 per made triple.

The athletic department will have a total once all pledges are finalized, but an estimate after the game had the total donation around $11,320. Fans also donated money for special Pink Out shirts.&nbsp;

Colby shot 56.3% in the second half to push Hutchinson into OT. J.J. White hit a corner three with 0.9 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 92-all. The tough shot came after two misses from distance for White on separate trips under two minutes to go.

In OT, Hutchinson made good on 4 of 9 attempts while Colby converted just 2 of 6 opportunities.&nbsp;

Colby took the early overtime lead after its&nbsp; only made three of the extra frame. The Dragons battled back behind a Yow And-1. Tyrone Marshall fouled out on the play and finished with 13 points, six rebounds and six assists.&nbsp;

Yow followed up the three-point play with a thunderous putback dunk.&nbsp;

With 2:36 to play, the dunk put Hutchinson up for good.

Yow took a charge with 52.8 seconds left that gave the Dragons the ball back with a one-point lead.

Kaimen Lennox then scored two of his 12 points on the next possession to put Hutchinson up 102-99.

Colby took a timeout with 18 seconds left and set up a chance to tie. An Ahmad Galimore three came up short and Hutchinson iced the game at the line.&nbsp;

FINAL: Hutchinson 104 Colby 99 - OT

White scored 26 for Colby and Ahmad Johnson added 23 before fouling out.

Nate Goodlow scored 12 for Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Yow finished with a double-double, 23 points and 12 rebounds.&nbsp;

Mya Williams got off to an incredibly hot start with 5 of 5 made threes. She finished the first half 6 of 6.

The Dragons led 45-32 at halftime thanks to 24 points from Williams and nine threes.

Colby shot 50% in the third quarter to make things interesting.&nbsp;

The Trojans slowly chipped away at a Dragon 23-point lead established in the first quarter to pull within four late in the third quarter.&nbsp;

Williams followed up her 24-point first half with another 13 to finish with a career-high 37 on 12 of 16 shooting. She hit 7 of 8 triples and snagged eight boards.&nbsp;

Kalyn Ervin added 16 points while Tor'e Alford had 13 with seven assists.&nbsp;

WBB: No. 25 Dragons drain 12 threes for a cure

DENISON, Texas – Day 1 of the Grayson Winter Blast was tough for the Hutchinson Community College softball team on Friday.

The Blue Dragons lost 7-1 to NOC-Enid and 11-3 to No. 2-nationally ranked Grayson College in their first two games. Hutchinson looks to rebound on Saturday with afternoon games against Weatherford College at 2:30 p.m. and Vernon College at 4:15 p.m.

The Blue Dragons and Jets had six hits each, bot NOC-Enid took advantage of seven walks and blew the game open with a four-run fifth.

The Dragons trailed just 3-0 through four innings. They scored their only run in the top of the fifth when Haley Miller singled up Easton Swanson with two out to cut the deficit to two runs. The Dragons couldn’t come up with another big hit and left the bases loaded in the inning and stranded eight runners on base in the game.

Six different players had hits for the Blue Dragons. Allie Stipsits and Carley Sterneker had doubles.

Keirsten Weitze (0-1) was the losing pitcher for Hutchinson, working just two-thirds of an inning. She gave up two hits and two runs with one walk. Emily Munson worked 1 2-3 innings with no runs allowed. Morgan Pennycuff worked the final four innings and struck out four.

The 2001 national runner-up jumped on the Blue Dragons for three runs in the top of the first inning, but Hutchinson responded and tied the game in its half of the first inning.

DENISON, Texas – Day 1 of the Grayson Winter Blast was tough for the Hutchinson Community College softball team on Friday.The Blue Dragons lost 7-1 to NOC-Enid and 11-3 to No. 2-nationally ranked Grayson College in their first two games. Hutchinson looks to rebound on Saturday with afternoon games against Weatherford College at 2:30 p.m. and Vernon College at 4:15 p.m.NOC-ENID RECAPThe Blue Dragons and Jets had six hits each, bot NOC-Enid took advantage of seven walks and blew the game open with a four-run fifth.The Dragons trailed just 3-0 through four innings. They scored their only run in the top of the fifth when Haley Miller singled up Easton Swanson with two out to cut the deficit to two runs. The Dragons couldn’t come up with another big hit and left the bases loaded in the inning and stranded eight runners on base in the game.Six different players had hits for the Blue Dragons. Allie Stipsits and Carley Sterneker had doubles.Keirsten Weitze (0-1) was the losing pitcher for Hutchinson, working just two-thirds of an inning. She gave up two hits and two runs with one walk. Emily Munson worked 1 2-3 innings with no runs allowed. Morgan Pennycuff worked the final four innings and struck out four.GRAYSON RECAPThe 2001 national runner-up jumped on the Blue Dragons for three runs in the top of the first inning, but Hutchinson responded and tied the game in its half of the first inning.Natalie Bevan doubled home Haley Miller and Aspen Goetz’s infield single drove in Madison Grimes to cut the Grayson lead to 3-2. The Dragons tied the game when Bevan scored in a Grayson throwing error.Grayson had an answer of its own with two runs in the second and three more runs in the fourth to lead take a 9-3 lead.The Blue Dragons had eight hits led by leadoff hitter Ella Dougherty’s 3-for-4 performance. She had a double. Grimes was 2 for 3 for the Dragons.Starting pitcher Sadie Loney (2-1) took the loss. She gave up eight hits and nine runs in three innings. Pennycuff worked 2 1-3 innings in relief and Munson worked two-thirds of an inning.Grayson racked up 11 hits against the Blue Dragons.
