WICHITA, Kan. — The No. 8-ranked Hutchinson Community College football team won its first Jayhawk Conference Playoff championship since 1995 on Sunday and completed a dazzling three-week run in doing so.

Quarterback&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2021-22/bios/laible_dylan_vw09">Dylan Laible</a>&nbsp;threw for better than 300 yards for the fourth-consecutive game, the Blue Dragon defense forced five takeaways and special teams added a huge blocked punt as Hutchinson rolled in the final three quarters to defeat No. 11 Garden City 49-19 at Riverfront Stadium in Wichita.

The Blue Dragons made their statement for a potential bid to the NJCAA National Playoffs and a chance to defend their national championship, improving to 8-2 overall and closing the season with five-straight dominating victories. The Blue Dragons are now 4-2 against NJCAA ranked opponents.

The Blue Dragons last won the KJCCC playoff championship game in 1995, a 34-22 win over the Broncbusters in Garden City.

Over their three-game KJCCC playoff run this season, the Blue Dragons outscored Highland, No. 5 Independence and No. 11 Garden City 168-19 and outgained their opponents 1,507-658. The Blue Dragons forced 10 takeaways and had just one turnover.

On Sunday at the home of the Wichita Wind Surge baseball team, the Blue Dragons rolled up 442 total yards (315 passing, 127 rushing), while holding the Broncbusters (7-3) to 299 yards (209 passing, 90 rushing).

Laible became the first quarterback since PJ Peters in 1995 to throw for 300-plus yards in four consecutive games on Sunday. Laible completed 12 of 27 passes for 315 yards and three touchdowns. Laible completed touchdown passes of 82 yards to&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2021-22/bios/benson_malik_dv1a">Malik Benson</a>, 9 yards to&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2021-22/bios/woods_micah_fijs">Micah Woods</a>&nbsp;and 40 yards to&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2021-22/bios/braham_cortez_0pxe">Cortez Braham</a>.

Laible also moved past Peters into fourth place on the Blue Dragon career passing yards' list with 3,333 yards. He became just the third quarterback in Blue Dragon history with 40 or more career touchdown passes, now with 42. With 2,551 passing yards and 29 touchdown passes for the season, Laible is No. 3 in single-season history in both of those categories.

Benson had another huge came with five receptions for 194 yards and a touchdown. The 194 yards is the fourth-best receiving game in Blue Dragon history. Benson became just the fourth Blue Dragon receiver to reach 1,000 receiving yards in a season, now with 1,032 yards.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2021-22/bios/braham_cortez_0pxe">Cortez Braham</a>&nbsp;had three receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown. One of the biggest plays of the game came from special teams when&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2021-22/bios/kedzior_dylan_cjzb">Dylan Kedzior</a>&nbsp;blocked a Garden City punt in the second quarter that set up a short Blue Dragon touchdown that gave Hutch a 21-13 lead.

Garden City quarterback Rhett Ricedorff was 19 of 52 passing for 199 yards and four interceptions. Manace Freeman had 60 rushing yards on five carries. David Elder had eight receptions for 66 yards.

The Broncbusters moved the ball easily in the first quarter, racking up 129 yards against Hutchinson. The Blue Dragon defense managed to get key late stops on Garden's first two possessions and the Busters had to settle for Jason Hernandez field goals of 29 and 42 yards to lead 6-0 with 2:01 to play in the opening quarter.

That changed on one play when Benson caught a Laible pass for an 82-yard scoring strike with Benson out-sprinting the Busters the final 50 yards for a touchdown. The Dragons led 7-6 after one quarter.

Garden City regained the lead at 13-7 on the first play of the second quarter when, on a trick play, Ricedorff caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Elder. The Blue Dragons had an immediate answer as Woods' 9-yard touchdown reception finished off a 76-yard, 11-play scoring drive for a 14-13 Dragon lead with 9:35 to go in the period.

The Busters threw three-straight incompletions on their next possession, which preceded Kedzior's blocked punt that was recovered at the Garden City 5. Lewis scored on the next play for a 21-13 Dragon lead with 9:00 to play in the period.

The Blue Dragons added an Edwards 2-yard touchdown run with 2:01 to play for a 28-13 Hutchinson lead, which was the score at halftime.

Garden City received the second-half kickoff. On the fifth play of the drive, Westmoreland intercepted the ball at the Garden City 35. Lewis made it 35-9 with a 20-yard touchdown run with 11:35 to play in the third quarter. The Dragons capped a 35-7 run through the middle two quarters with an Edwards 2-yard touchdown run for a 42-7 lead with 8:45 to play in the second quarter.

Garden City's Devion Hodges scored on a 22-yard touchdown run with 10:09 to play. The Dragons answered that with a 4-yard Lewis touchdown for a 49-19 lead with 6:27 to go.

GAME NOTES&nbsp;– Blue Dragon head coach Drew Dallas reached 16 wins, which is the second most by a Blue Dragon coach in team history. Andy Hill had 18 wins in his first two seasons. The Blue Dragons are now 41-40 all-time against Garden City. The Dragons are 43-42 all-time in KJCCC/Region VI playoff history, including 2-5 in championship games.

(AP) — Kobe Brown scored 19 of his 24 points after halftime, hitting a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:29 left in overtime as Missouri rallied to defeat SMU 80-75 at the Jacksonville Classic. SMU (3-2) looked to have the game in hand after Emmanuel Bandoumel hit two 3-pointers to cap an 18-0 run to close out the first half, giving the Mustangs a 29-18 lead. Missouri (3-1) chipped away until a jumper by Brown cut the deficit to 62-59 with 1:50 left. DaJuan Gordon sent the game to OT with a three-point play — on an assist from Brown — with 29 seconds left. Brown's 3-pointer gave the Tigers the lead for good, but they didn't nail down the win until Ronnie DeGray III's three-point play with 8 seconds left gave them a two-score advantage.

ST. THOMAS (AP) — David Roddy had a career-high 36 points as Colorado State defeated Creighton 93-81 in the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam. Arthur Kaluma led the Bluejays on Sunday night with 16 points.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Aljaz Kunc scored 21 points to lead five players in double figures and Iowa State breezed to an 82-47 victory over Grambling. Kunc sank all seven of his shots, including five 3-pointers, for the Cyclones (4-0). Tristan Enaruna pitched in with 15 points and nine rebounds. Tyrese Hunter added 12 points, six assists and five boards. &nbsp;AJ Taylor topped the Tigers (0-4) with 12 points and Danya Kingsby scored 10.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Bryce McGowens scored 18 points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds, leading four players into double-figure scoring as Nebraska defeated Southern 82-59. McGowens, a 6-foot-7 freshman, was a perfect 10 of 10 at the free-throw line as he collected his first double-double for the Huskers. Derrick Walker made seven of eight field goals to finish with 15 points for Nebraska, Alonzo Verge scored 14 with six rebounds and four assists. Nebraska quickly built a 23-9 lead by the 5:09 mark of the first half and never let Southern get closer than 11 after that. Brion Whitley led the Jaguars with 17 points.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Defending Olympic curling champion John Shuster is going back to the Winter Games for a fifth time. The 2018 gold medalist skipped his team to victory over Team Dropkin at the U.S. trials, winning 5-4 to take the best-of-three finals two games to one and earn a spot in Beijing. John Landsteiner and Matt Hamilton will also return to the Olympics after winning it all in Pyeongchang. Chris Plys joined the foursome to replace Tyler George, who retired. Tabitha Peterson, Nina Roth, Tara Peterson and Becca Hamilton earned the American women's berth In Beijing.

Texans snap 8-game skid, end Titans' 6-game streak 

UNDATED (AP) — Tyrod Taylor ran for two touchdowns and threw for 107 yards and the Houston Texans snapped the NFL's longest active skid by beating the Tennessee Titans 22-13 on a wet and rainy Sunday. 

The Texans came in having lost eight straight since winning their season opener and hadn't scored a TD on the road since Sept. 19. 

Desmond King had two of the Texans' four interceptions. Three of those came in the fourth quarter to snuff out the Titans' attempted rally. Houston turned those and a fumbled punt into 13 points. 

— Jonathan Taylor set a franchise record by scoring five touchdowns in the Indianapolis Colts' 41-15 rout of the unraveling Buffalo Bills. Taylor scored three times in the first half, including a 23-yard catch. He became the NFL's first player with five TDs in in one game since Alvin Kamara ran for six last season. The Colts won for the fifth time in six games to improve to 6-5. The Bills dropped to 6-4 and ceded their lead atop the AFC East, falling a half-game behind New England. 

— Minnesota beat Green Bay by making sure Aaron Rodgers didn't get to touch the ball last. Greg Joseph made a 29-yard field goal as time expired to give the Vikings a 34-31 victory over the Packers. Rodgers threw three of his four touchdown passes in the second half, finishing 23 for 33 for a season-high 385 yards. Kirk Cousins passed for 341 yards and three scores.

— Justin Herbert threw a 53-yard touchdown pass to Mike Williams with 2:17 remaining and the Los Angeles Chargers held off the Pittsburgh Steelers 41-37. Los Angeles had a 27-10 lead going into the fourth quarter before the Steelers rallied to take a 37-34 lead on Chris Boswell's 45-yard field goal with 3:24 left. Herbert finished 30 of 41 for 382 yards and three touchdowns, plus 90 yards rushing.

— Jalen Hurts ran for three touchdowns, Darius Slay returned an interception for a score and the Philadelphia Eagles beat the New Orleans Saints 40-29. The Eagles have won two in a row for the first time this season and rookie coach Nick Sirianni earned his first victory at home in five tries. The Saints dropped their third straight since losing quarterback Jameis Winston to a season-ending ACL injury.

— Washington spoiled Cam Newton's return to Bank of America Stadium with a 27-21 win over the Carolina Panthers. Taylor Heinicke (HY'-nih-kee) threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns against the league's top-ranked pass defense. Terry McLaurin had five catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. 

— Devonta (deh-VAHN'-tay) Freeman scored on a 3-yard run with 22 seconds remaining and the AFC North-leading Baltimore Ravens beat the Chicago Bears 16-13 even though star quarterback Lamar Jackson missed the game because of an illness. The Ravens ruled out Jackson 90 minutes before kickoff after he took some throws on the field. Chicago's Andy Dalton threw for two touchdowns after Justin Fields left the game with a rib injury in the third quarter, but the Bears lost their fifth straight. 

— Nick Chubb caught a touchdown pass and ran for 130 yards as the Cleveland Browns held on to avoid a season-wrecking upset and keep Detroit winless with a sloppy 13-10 victory over the Lions. Chubb returned to Cleveland's lineup after a one-game absence due to COVID-19. 

— Joe Mixon rushed for 123 yards and scored two touchdowns and the Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 32-13. The well-rested Bengals came out of their bye week and snapped a two-game skid to climb back into the AFC North race, while the Raiders lost their third straight since their bye week when they led the AFC West.

— Tua Tagovailoa (TOO'-ah tuhng-ah-vy-LOH'-ah) threw a go-ahead 5-yard touchdown pass to Myles Gaskin early in the fourth quarter and the Miami Dolphins hung on to beat the New York Jets 24-17 for their third straight victory. 

— Jimmy Garoppolo (gah-RAH'-puh-loh) threw two touchdown passes for the third consecutive week and the San Francisco 49ers dominated Jacksonville 30-10 for their third win in four games. Coming off their best game of the season — a 31-10 stunner against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night — the 49ers traveled cross-country on a short week and looked every bit like a playoff contender for the second time in six days, scoring on their first five possessions.

LeBron ejected after bloodying Stewart, Lakers beat Pistons

UNDATED (AP) — LeBron James was ejected early in the third quarter after drawing blood by hitting Isaiah Stewart in the face, leaving Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook to rally the Los Angeles Lakers to a 121-116 victory over the Detroit Pistons. 

Davis had 30 points, 10 rebounds and two big blocked shots late on Pistons 20-year-old rookie Cade Cunningham. Westbrook contributed 26 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. 

Cunningham, the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, had 13 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists to become the youngest player in franchise history with a triple-double. 

James and Stewart were tangled up while boxing out for a rebound. James's left elbow and hand appeared to make contact with Stewart above the neck, sending him into a bloody rage. Detroit's center had to be held back more than once, keeping him separated from the NBA superstar. Stewart was also ejected.

— Stephen Curry was back and the Golden State Warriors beat the Toronto Raptors 119-104. But they were led by Jordan Poole, who had 33, including eight 3-pointers. Curry scored just 12 points but had eight assists, after sitting out a game with a sore hip.

— Cam Johnson scored a career-high 22 points, Deandre Ayton added 21 and the fast-starting Phoenix Suns ran their winning streak to 12, routing the short-handed Denver Nuggets 126-97. The Suns scored 48 points in the first quarter for a 20-point lead, hitting 7 3-pointers. 

— DeMar DeRozan had 31 points, Zach LaVine added 21 and The Chicago Bulls rallied in the fourth quarter for a 109-103 victory over the New York Knicks. DeMar DeRozan led the Bulls with 31 points.

— Paul George scored 12 of his 29 points in the third quarter as the Los Angeles Clippers ended a two-game losing skid with a 97-91 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks played their third consecutive game without star Luka Doncic (DAHN'-chihch), who is on the mend from a sprained left knee and ankle.

Kings fire coach Luke Walton after 6-11 start to 3rd season

UNDATED (AP) — The Sacramento Kings have fired coach Luke Walton after getting off to a disappointing start in his third season in charge. 

Walton had a 68-93 record in two-plus seasons as coach, failing to get Sacramento to the playoffs. Associate coach Alvin Gentry takes over on an interim basis. 

UNDATED (AP) — Jaden Schwartz had a goal and three assists and the Seattle Kraken beat the Washington Capitals 5-2 to snap a six-game losing streak. 

Calle Jarnkrok and Yanni Gorde each added a goal and an assist for Seattle, which got 37 saves from Philipp Grubauer. 

Alex Ovechkin scored his 15th goal of the season for the Capitals.

— Former Bruins goalie Dan Vladar stopped 27 shots for his second career shutout, and the Calgary Flames beat Boston 4-0. Flames forward Andrew Mangiapane scored a short-handed goal early in the third period for his 15th of the season. 

— Mitch Marner scored the game's only goals as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the New York Islanders 2-0. Toronto goalie Joseph Woll stopped 20 shots for his first career shutout.

— Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 40 shots in his first shutout of the season and the Chicago Blackhawks blanked the Vancouver Canucks 1-0. Brandon Hagel scored the game's lone goal with a third-period tip-in.

Ohio State jumps to No. 2 past Alabama, Cincinnati

UNDATED (AP) — Ohio State is now No. 2 in The Associated Press college football poll, jumping three spots past No. 3 Alabama and No. 4 Cincinnati in a close vote. 

Georgia is a unanimous No. 1 for the seventh consecutive week. Alabama slipped past Cincinnati last week and then Ohio State leapfrogged them both after routing Michigan State.

Notre Dame is up to a season-high No. 5 and Michigan will go into its game against Ohio State ranked No. 6. Oklahoma State moved to a season-high No. 7 and is one of three Big 12 teams in the top 10, along with No. 9 Baylor and No. 10 Oklahoma. Mississippi rounds out the top 10 at No. 8.

UNDATED (AP) — Florida has fired coach Dan Mullen a day after his sixth loss in nine games. 

The move comes two months after the Gators went toe to toe with defending national champion Alabama and a year after they had a chance to make the College Football Playoff. 

— Troy has fired football coach Chip Lindsey with one game left in his third season. Lindsey was 15-19 a Troy. Defensive coordinator Brandon Hall will finish out the season as interim coach. 

Gooch sails to victory at Sea Island for 1st PGA Tour title

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. (AP) — Talor Gooch has picked up his first PGA Tour title, and he played like he had done this before.

Gooch played bogey-free at Sea Island in the final round. He led by as many as five shots on the back nine. He wound up with a 64 and a three-shot victory in the RSM Classic. 

The victory sends the former Oklahoma State player to the Masters in April. 

Jin Young Ko delivers big finish to win LPGA player of year

NAPLES, Fla. (AP) — Jin Young Ko delivered her best performance against her toughest opponent. The South Korean star shot a 63 on Sunday to win the CME Group Tour Championship. That's what she needed to overtake Nelly Korda for LPGA Tour player of the year.

LAS VEGAS – Tyson Etienne sank two free throws with three seconds left to give Wichita State a 74-73 victory over UNLV on Sunday night in the Roman Main Event third-place game.

Etienne scored 23 of his game-high 28 points in the second half for the Shockers (4-1), who trailed by as many as 11 points with 16:36 to play in the game before rallying.

Etienne hit five second-half threes, including four over the final 6:31. He finished 6-of-12 overall from deep, matching his career-high.

UNLV scored on a put-back with 5.3 seconds left to take a 73-72 lead.

Out of a timeout, WSU inbounded to a streaking Etienne in the backcourt. The 6-2 guard dribbled to the near sideline and across half court before bowling into UNLV's Keshon Gilbert who was whistled for a blocking foul.

Etienne made both free throws to send the Shockers home with the win. It was their first Las Vegas win in five tries, spanning three different trips.

Freshman Kenny Pohto put up 12 points on 3-of-7 three-point shooting and Ricky Council IV added 10 points and three steals.

Bryce Hamilton paced UNLV (3-2) with 18 points and Jordan McCabe paired 11 points with eight assists.

Etienne's big second half pushes Shockers past UNLV

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Clyde Edwards-Helaire ran for 63 yards and a touchdown in his return from injured reserve as the Chiefs beat the Cowboys 19-9. Patrick Mahomes was 23 of 37 for 260 yards with an interception and a fumble for Kansas City, but he was bailed out by a defense that played its best game of the year. Charvarius Ward picked off Dak Prescott in the end zone near the end of the first half, and Chris Jones had 3 1/2 sacks while forcing and recovering a fumble. The result was the Chiefs' fourth straight win and a 4-0 mark against the NFC East this season.

🏈 Chiefs have strong defense in win over Dallas

WICHITA, Kan. — No. 8 Hutchinson won the first-ever football game held in Riverfront Stadium Sunday afternoon.&nbsp;

The baseball stadium, home of the Wind Surge, was converted into a football field for the first KJCCC championship game since 2013.

The Dragons trailed early after a pair of Garden City field goals.&nbsp;

Jason Hernandez made good from 29 and 42.

With 1:46 left in the first quarter, Dylan Laible hit Malik Benson on an 82-yard bomb.&nbsp;

No. 11 Garden City would answer on a reverse that wide receiver David Elder threw to quarterback Rhett Ricedorff. The 10-yard score put the Broncbusters back up 13-7.

Hutchinson came back with a nine-yard TD pass from Laible to Micah Woods.

That score was part of 35 unanswered points put up by the Blue Dragons.&nbsp;

Dylan Kedzior blocked a punt that was recovered by Jalik Thomas. Anwar Lewis took the next play five yards for the score.&nbsp;

A 60-yard pass from Laible to Benson set up a score to Tye Edwards after a defensive pass interference on 3rd and 10 from the 11. Edwards put Hutchinson up 28-13 on the two-yard run.&nbsp;

A Garden City muffed punt late in the second quarter led to a crazy exchange over the waning moments of the first half.&nbsp;

Hutchinson recovered the ball and looked poised to score again. Laible was intercepted, though, by Dwayne Harris. The interception was returned into Dragon territory.&nbsp;

Ricedorff then had his pass intercepted by Deshon Singleton to close out the half.&nbsp;

A Davion Westmoreland interception to begin the third quarter led to a 20-yard TD run by Lewis.&nbsp;

Ricedorff was intercepted again by Emmanuel Mann. That turnover was turned into six when Laible hit Cortez Braham on a 40-yard strike.&nbsp;

Facing a 4th down and 5 late, Garden City got back on the board after Devion Hodges scampered 22 yards to the end zone.&nbsp;

Lewis ran for his third touchdown of the day with 6:27 left.

WICHITA, Kan.—The Hutchinson Community College football team bids for its first Jayhawk Conference Playoff postseason title since 1995 at Riverfront Stadium in Wichita.

The third-seeded and now NJCAA No. 8-ranked Blue Dragons (7-2) will square off against fourth-seed and 11th-ranked Garden City (7-2) at 1 p.m. Sunday at the home of minor league baseball's Wichita Windsurge.

The Blue Dragons have posted two-straight shutouts to advance to its first playoff final since 2013. Last week, the Blue Dragons dispatched No. 5-ranked Independence 42-0 in the semifinals at Independence. Quarterback&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2021-22/bios/laible_dylan_vw09">Dylan Laible</a>&nbsp;threw for 365 yards and five touchdowns, with receiver&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2021-22/bios/benson_malik_dv1a">Malik Benson</a>&nbsp;catching five balls for career highs of 197 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, the Blue Dragons limited the Pirates to 23 rush yards and created four takeaways and six quarterback sacks.

Garden City has defeated Dodge City (36-16 in the opening round) and Butler (27-16 in the semifinals) to advance to the championship game. Quarterback Rhett Ricedorff threw for 159 yards and two touchdowns while running back Dedrick Talbert rushed for 101 yards. The Broncbuster defense also forced three turnovers and held Butler to 33 rushing yards.

The Blue Dragons had to have a fourth-quarter comeback in early October to defeat the then-No. 8 Broncbusters 24-16 at Garden City. Laible was 5 of 6 passing with two fourth-quarter touchdowns as the Blue Dragons rallied from a 13-10 deficit after three quarters.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2021-22/bios/lewis_anwar_72y9">Anwar Lewis</a>&nbsp;rushed for 162 yards and a touchdown in the victory. Running back William Knight led the Busters with 162 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Hutchinson and Garden City have met six times in the Jayhawk Conference/Region VI Playoffs in series history. Garden City has a 5-1 advantage in postseason meetings, but the one victory by the Blue Dragon came in the 1995 championship game when Hutchinson defeated Garden City 34-22 in Garden City. The last playoff meeting between the Dragons Busters came in the 2001 semifinals, a 45-7 Garden City victory in Garden City.

Overall, this will be the 81st all-time series meeting between Hutchinson and Garden City. The series is tied at 40-all and this will be the first meeting ever on a neutral field between the Blue Dragons and Broncbusters.

Sunday's KJCCC title matchup will be the first time this season that either team has played on natural grass. The baseball field at Riverfront Stadium has been converted to football.

Baylor wins over K-State Saturday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. —&nbsp; In April, the Iowa Western Reivers claimed their first national title in 15 years. Seven months later, the Reivers won their second consecutive national title in a five-set thriller against New Mexico Military at the 2021 NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship. Iowa Western topped New Mexico Military by the scores of 18-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 15-12.

The win marks the third NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship title in school history for the Reivers. Head coach Alicia Williams has played a part in all three of the Reivers national titles, claiming two titles as a coach and helping Iowa Western capture the school's first national title as a player in 2006.

After falling to Jefferson (MO) in the Midwest A District final, Iowa Western entered the national tournament as the No. 8 seed after earning an at-large bid to the championship.

En route to the championship match, the Reivers swept their first two opponents: No. 9 Polk State and No. 1 Blinn. The two time national championships battled No. 5 Missouri State-West Plains in the semifinals, dropping the first set but ultimately prevailing to defend their title.

Iowa Western wins second-straight NJCAA Division I VB title

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;Former Kansas men’s basketball player Kelly Knight passed away Nov. 17, 2021, in Salina, Kansas, his family confirmed with Kansas Athletics. Knight was 59-years-old.

Knight was a three-year starter at Kansas, playing for KU coaches Ted Owens and Larry Brown. He played for Owens in 1979-80, 1981-82 and 1982-83, and for Brown in 1983-84. The Salina, Kansas, native started 84 of 101 games played while at KU and averaged 10.5 points per game for his career. His 1,057 career points are 51st on the KU all-time scoring list.

A team captain, Knight was an All-Big Eight Second Team selection in 1983 and was also a member of the 1983 Big Eight All-Tournament Team. Also, in 1982-83, Knight led Kansas with 35 blocked shots to go along with his 11.4 scoring average.

Knight comes from a family of Kansas basketball players. His brothers, Danny and Mark, both played basketball at KU for Owens. Danny played at Kansas from 1972-73 to 1974-75, while Mark played from 1979-80 to 1980-81. Additionally, Kelly Knight’s niece, Natalie Knight Johnson, was a four-year letterwinner from 2011-12 to 2014-15.

“I truly love the Knight family. They were a coach’s dream family with Danny, Kelly and Mark,” Owens said. “Kelly was a terrific teammate. He was very quiet. The good leaders are people who lead by example and that was Kelly. Some of the best leaders we have had at Kansas have been guys who were not very vocal. He always had the most wonderful attitude and was a great teammate.”

The Knight family will hold a private service at a later date.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Riding a 20-game winning streak heading into the NJCAA Division I national championship, the sixth-seeded New Mexico Military Institute Broncos were trying to achieve something that had never been done before in program history.

An obstacle in the form of the eighth-seeded Iowa Western Reivers stood in the way of winning a coveted national title.

NMMI already had a five-set victory over the Reivers back on Oct. 16.

On Saturday night, the Broncos fought hard until the very end, unfortunately the ball didn't bounce their way in the final set as Iowa Western captured its second-straight national title with a five-set victory, 18-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 15-12.

Florida Southwestern State defeated Miami Dade 3-0 to win 5th place.&nbsp;The #4 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers would have preferred it to come a little later in the day, but closed a record breaking 2021 season in style Saturday afternoon at the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas, defeating archrival #3 Miami Dade 3-0 to finish 5th in their second trip to the Big Dance.&nbsp; Match scores were 25-19, 25-23, and 25-2o.

The Snow College Badger volleyball team placed seventh with a 3-0 victory over #1 seeded Blinn College, 25-21, 25-18, 26-24.

Yow and Nate Goodlow collectively played 16 minutes and picked up four fouls. The starters average nearly 23 points together each night, but combined for 0-2 from the floor after 20 minutes.&nbsp;

Kobe Campbell provided a boost off the bench with eight of his 10 total points coming in the first half.&nbsp;
