HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutch High senior volleyball star setter Josie Mclean had a tough decision to make last May, when her Dad, Jon Mclean, was named the new Activities Director replacing Kevin Armstrong at Hutch High. But, she didn't hesitate for an instant. &nbsp;"I knew I was destined to be at Hutch High. &nbsp;I loved the school and already knew most of the girls and I'm so excited to be here."

Mclean had already surpassed over 2,000 career assists and has close to 700 assists alone for this season as a setter for thee Hutchinson High Salthawks.

Hutch High (27-5) travel to Wichita to take on Maize South and Newton in AVCTL Div. 1 action on Tuesday. &nbsp;The Salthawks wrap up their regular season next Tuesday with a dual match at Maize.

Sub-state tournaments are scheduled for October 22nd with State assignments coming out on October 23rd. &nbsp;The State Tournaments kick off over the last weekend in October.

🏐 Hutch High's Mclean surpasses 2K career assist mark

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Week 7 NJCAA football rankings are out.

Hutchinson Community College (6-0, 3-0) is the nation's new No. 1.

<a href="https://hutchpost.com/posts/123ca905-7055-4329-9c24-4829b79f4b23">The Dragons won on the road Saturday at Dodge City 47-14 behind two Dylan Laible touchdown passes and a rushing TD from reigning National Player of the Week Dylan Kedzior</a>.

Defending national champion NMMI started the season 5-0, despite winning the last three games by an average of 4.6 points. New Mexico Military lost 20-12 to Tyler (3-2).

Hutchinson has already defeated four opponents currently in the Top 15 (<a href="https://hutchpost.com/posts/d707c134-d9c7-4a2e-b261-656e3c5f6d30">No. 6 Navarro</a>, <a href="https://hutchpost.com/posts/a000a7b6-a9f2-4bca-8236-7f0baf012aff">No. 8 Butler</a>, <a href="https://hutchpost.com/posts/f0b138b8-6cfd-4f35-bfe7-fd0c98277cff">No. 10 Iowa Central</a> and <a href="https://hutchpost.com/posts/1de59651-f506-4f43-9977-81c765d5b760">No. 12 Coffeyville</a>).

🏈 Dragons new No. 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — There was a time in Travis Kelce's career that the Kansas City Chiefs tight end could simply line up against a linebacker, or even a safety, and know that his speed and agility would be able to get him open downfield.

Kelce turned 33 this week, though, and those days are slowly slipping away. Yet what he has lost in athleticism Kelce has made up for in experience. You'll see him slowly going in motion, or quickly moving across the formation, setting defenders up even before the snap and giving him just that extra bit of space to allow him to continually make plays.

"He's just smarter as a player," Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said. "That's the biggest thing. He knows how to get himself open. He knows how to use other people and other parts of the concept to get himself open. And he's smart about how he blocks, how he can pin guys and get us in the right position. I think he's just continued to evolve."

He is once again tops among NFL tight ends, too, with 26 catches for 322 yards and three touchdowns.

It might be a stretch to say that Kelce, who along with the Chiefs play the Raiders on Monday night, has revolutionized the tight end position. That would be slighting those who came before him: Ozzie Newsome, Dave Casper and Keith Jackson in the day, and Tony Gonzalez, Jason Witten and Rob Gronkowski in more recent years.

But it's safe to say that Kelce has made what was long considered a decidedly unsexy position a lot more appealing, and in turn helped to make players such as Raiders tight end Darren Waller high-priced assets for their teams.

Waller has 16 catches for 175 yards and three scores heading into Monday night's game in Kansas City.

Make no mistake: Kelce still does plenty of down-in-the-dirt blocking, the stuff often overlooked and underappreciated, but that helped Kansas City run for nearly 200 yards in last week's 41-31 win at Tampa Bay. But he also makes plenty of those spectacular catches and long, loping downfield runs that makes Kelce a regular on the highlight reels.

"Everybody kind of giggles and laughs when you see (Mahomes) throw an underhand pass to a fullback or a shovel pass, or Kelce lines up at quarterback in the red zone and then runs the ball in, or runs an option, or shovel pass — whatever it is," Las Vegas coach Josh McDaniels said.

"What's always impressed me is how precise they are and how detailed they are when they do those things. Look, players like to run things that are run. They enjoy that."

Nobody seems to enjoy it more than Kelce, who could sometimes come off as surly early in his career, especially when things weren't going his way. But while he still has a fiercely competitive streak, Kelce has matured as he aged, and what the Chiefs have now is a locker room leader who is just as good with fans and reporters as his teammates.

One that continues to etch his name in record books, too.

Kelce has caught a pass in 130 consecutive games, one behind Gonzalez for the second-longest streak in franchise history and the second-longest active streak behind DeAndre Hopkins in the NFL. Kelce has 730 catches in all, putting him within shouting distance of Witten's 806 for the most among tight ends over their first 10 seasons in the NFL.

Last week against the Buccaneers, Kelce had nine catches for 92 yards and a score, giving him 9,328 yards for his career and moving him past Gronkowski for fifth most among NFL tight ends.

Next on the list is Shannon Sharpe with 10,060, with Antonio Gates, Witten and Gonzalez the only others ahead of him.

What about touchdowns? Kelce has 63 of those, one behind Jamaal Charles for fourth on the Chiefs' career list.

It's not as if his production has tapered with age, either.

The pride of Westlake, Ohio, finished with 92 catches for 1,125 yards and nine touchdowns last season, his sixth straight eclipsing 1,000 yards.

And considering Kelce has three more years left on his contract after this one, and he insists that he plans to play it to completion or beyond, there is no reason to think more records won't fall.

"He is getting up there," Mahomes admitted. I'm going to try to keep him here as long as possible. I promise you. He's not taking any screens like, 80 yards anymore, I don't think. But he's still going to make some production on the field."

NEW YORK (AP) — Joe Musgrove brushed off chants of “Cheater!” after a bizarre spot check by umpires on the mound, pitching his hometown San Diego Padres into the next round of the playoffs with seven innings of one-hit ball in a 6-0 victory over the New York Mets. Trent Grisham hit an RBI single and made a terrific catch in center field that helped the Padres take the best-of-three National League wild-card series two games to one. Austin Nola and Juan Soto each had a two-run single. San Diego advanced to face the top-seeded Los Angeles Dodgers in a best-of-five Division Series beginning Tuesday.

With the Chiefs (3-1) and Mahomes, the Raiders are presented with numerous issues that are sure to challenge a secondary that has the slimmest margin for errors. Mahomes, who ranks seventh in the league with 1,106 yards passing, is tied for first with 11 passing touchdowns, alongside Detroit’s Jared Goff and Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Justin Tucker kicked a 43-yard field goal on the final play to lift the Baltimore Ravens over the Cincinnati Bengals 19-17 and into sole possession of first place in the AFC North. Tucker also made a 58-yard kick in the third quarter. The Ravens fell behind 17-16 on Joe Burrow’s 1-yard sneak with 1:58 remaining, but they could feel confident because they only needed a field goal. Tucker’s game-winner extended his streak to 61 straight successful field goals in the fourth quarter and overtime. Baltimore squandered a 10-point lead but recovered as Cincinnati fell to 2-3. Kim shot 67 and completed a bogey-free week at the TPC Summerlin. He moves to No. 15 in the world and becomes the highest-ranked Asian-born player in golf. Kim also won the Wyndham Championship in August.

Bell entered the race 11th in the standings with four drivers set to be eliminated as NASCAR’s playoff field was trimmed to eight. He took the lead in overtime and drove away as all the drama was further in the field for the final transfer spot into the round of eight. Chase Briscoe bulldozed his way to a ninth-place finish to knock Larson out of the playoffs by two points. Also eliminated were Daytona 500 winner Austin Cindric, Daniel Suarez and Larson's teammate, Alex Bowman.

The Bulldogs received 32 first-place votes and 1,535 points in the Top 25 to easily reclaim No. 1 on Sunday after being just two points behind Alabama for the No. 2 spot last week. Georgia thumped Auburn 42-10 on Saturday. The Tide escaped an upset bid at home by Texas A&amp;M with Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Bryce Young sidelined by injury. Week 6 of the 2022 Kansas high school football season provided some big-time matchups between some of the state’s top programs. Across the board, those games didn’t disappoint. For the third straight year, Maize and Derby waged an epic battle that ended with a one-point outcome. This time, it was Class 5A No. 2 Maize coming out on top of Class 6A No. 2 Derby 52-51, rallying from 20 points down late in the first half to win it on Mason Teague’s 20-yard field goal with 1:22 left. Maize All-State quarterback Avery Johnson sparked the rally, throwing for 378 yards and four touchdowns and adding another 146 yards and three scores on the ground. Derby had one last possession to drive for the winning score, but Caden Miranda’s sack in the final minute sealed the Eagles’ win. In Class 4A, arch rivals Bishop Miege and St. Thomas Aquinas battled in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown. And for awhile, it looked like Miege would roll, leading 20-0 in the third quarter and 26-14 with less than 10 minutes to go in the fourth. But Aquinas stormed back behind an unrelenting ground game led by Sean Carroll and scored twice in the final nine minutes to upset the Stags 29-26. In another 1 vs. 2 showdown, Class 3A No. 1 Andale sucked all the drama out of its clash with Wichita Collegiate early. Coming off a 108-0 win over Nickerson the previous week, Andale flexed even more against the Spartans, cruising to a 49-0 win – the Indians’ 44th straight. The eight-player ranks also offered up Division I No. 2 Meade against No. 3 Leoti-Wichita County. Last year’s champion Buffaloes couldn’t slow down Leoti’s explosive offense and Meade lost for the first time since 2020 as the Indians ran away with a 56-20 victory. How did the showdowns affect the Week 6 KSHSAA Covered Rankings? Well, only slightly. Derby dropped just one spot from No. 2 to 3 in Class 6A with unbeaten Olathe North moving up to No. 2. Junction City fell out of the top five in 6A after getting whipped 44-7 by No. 1 Manhattan. Gardner-Edgerton moves in to the No. 5 spot. In 4A, Miege holds onto its No. 1 ranking despite the loss to No. 2 Aquinas. The Stags beat both of the teams that handed Aquinas its two losses this season, Rockhurst and St. James. In Class 3A, Wichita Collegiate only drops one spot as well after the loss to Andale. Hayden jumps to No. 2 while the Spartans slip to No. 3. In Eight-Player Division I, Leoti takes over the No. 1 ranking after its big win over Meade with previous No. 1 Hill City also losing on Friday to Hoxie, 20-14. The Ringnecks fall out of the top five with Little River moving up from No. 4 to No. 2, Burlingame going from 5 to 3, Meade falling to No. 4 and South Sumner County moving in at No. 5. DODGE CITY – The No. 2-ranked Hutchinson Community College Football team rolled up a season-high 599 total yards as head coach Drew Dallas, quarterback&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/laible_dylan_elo2">Dylan Laible</a>&nbsp;and receiver&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/benson_malik_obrm">Malik Benson</a>&nbsp;all reached milestones in a Jayhawk Conference victory on Saturday at Dodge City.

The Blue Dragons extended their winning streak to 12 games after defeating the Conquistadors 47-14 at Memorial Stadium.

The Blue Dragons start a season 6-0 for the seventh time in program history. The Dragons are now 3-0 in conference play with a bye week next Saturday and a road game in two weeks at Garden City. Dodge City is now 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the Jayhawk.

With the victory, Dallas earned his 23rd victory in his first 25 games as head coach, which is the most wins through 25 games of any Blue Dragon coach in program history.

With a 10-yard completion to&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/echols_treymon_pd6t">Treymon Echols</a>&nbsp;on his first pass of the game, Laible became the Blue Dragons' career passing leader with 4,921 yards, surpassing Luke Barnes.

With 112 receiving yards on Saturday, Benson moved past Hall of Famer Lonnie Crittenden into second place on the Blue Dragon career receiving yards list with 1,756 yards.

Hutchinson's season-high 599 total yards included a season-high 393 passing yards. Laible, who played only one series into the second half, completed 14 of 26 passes for 217 yards with two touchdowns. Sophomore Collin Shields threw for a career-high 176 yards on 8 of 12 passing with a touchdown.

Benson posted his ninth career 100-yard game with 136 receiving yards on seven receptions. Benson had touchdown catches of 80 and 8 yards. The 80 yarder was the sixth time Benson has had at least an 80-yard reception in his career.

<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/woods_micah_qrwd">Micah Woods</a>&nbsp;had three catches for 44 yards. Ten different receivers made catches, including&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/smith_tristan_r3z6">Tristan Smith</a>, who had a 79-yard touchdown reception from Shields.

Running back&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/kedzior_dylan_601l">Dylan Kedzior</a>&nbsp;had his second-straight 100-yard performance, running for a game-high 117 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/byrd_jr._tim_4csk">Tim Byrd Jr.</a>&nbsp;had 42 rushing yards on five carries.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/simmons_jaheim_h2xm">Jaheim Simmons</a>&nbsp;had 37 rushing yards. The Blue Dragons rushed for 206 yards against the Conquistadors.

Blue Dragon kicker&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/segraves_cole_2w5s">Cole Segraves</a>&nbsp;made four field goals from 35, 33, 45 and a career-long 46 yards. Segraves became the first Blue Dragon kicker with four field goals in a game since Kevin Coleman in 2004.

Hutchinson's defense held Dodge City to 300 total yards – 42 rushing yards and 258 passing.

Kedzior's 1-yard touchdown run capped an 11-play, 76-yard scoring march for a 7-0 lead with 8:41 to play in the opening quarter. One play after a&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/mundy_jaymar_ni8q">Jaymar Mundy</a>&nbsp;interception in the end zone, Laible found Benson in the middle of the field for an 80-yard throw-and-run for a 14-0 lead with 5:08 to play in the opening quarter.

Segraves made it 17-0 with a 35-yard field goal with 8:33 to play in the second quarter. After a Blue Dragon defensive stop and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/roper_darby_wdm8">Darby Roper</a>&nbsp;40-yard punt return to the Dodge City 22, Benson caught an 8-yard touchdown from Laible for a 24-0 Dragon lead with 6:14 remaining in the first half.

The Dragons led 27-0 at halftime after Segraves booted a 33-yard field goal with 54 seconds left in the second quarter.

Segraves twice kicked career-long field goals in the third quarter, first from 45 yards and the second from 46 yards for a 33-0 Dragon lead with 8:16 remaining in the third quarter.

Leading 33-7 after three quarters, A Simmons 2-yard touchdown run capped a 13-play, 89-yard scoring drive that took 7:10 off the clock for a 40-7 lead with 11:01 remaining in the game. Smith's 79-yard touchdown reception came with 9:38 left gave the Dragons a 47-7 lead.

Dodge City's Jalen Rose Hannah had second-half touchdown catches of 5 and 7 yards for Dodge City's points. Dodge quarterback Grant Ciccarone was 22 of 39 for 258 yards.

The No. 19 Blue Dragons completed a season sweep of Garden City after a 3-1 victory at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

The Blue Dragons improved to 11-2 overall, 8-2 (24 points) in the Jayhawk West. Garden City has now lost 9 of its last 10 games and is 4-9-1 overall and 0-8-1 in conference play.

Hutchinson Blue Dragons are now 30-0 all-time against Garden City. The Dragons also maintain their share of first place in the Jayhawk West with Barton.

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2022-23/bios/delgado_adriana_auuz">Adriana Delgado</a>, sophomore Julia Diaz De Souza and sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2022-23/bios/lowe_hadlie_mqp8">Hadlie Lowe</a>&nbsp;netted goals as the Blue Dragons remained undefeated at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

Delgado's goal in the 12th minute was a tapped pass from freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2022-23/bios/lackey_maren_49bs">Maren Lackey</a>&nbsp;at the top of the penalty box. That 1-0 Dragon lead was the halftime score.

Hutchinson took a two-goal lead off a corner kick from third-year sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2022-23/bios/miller_ella-mae_rctz">Ella-Mae Miller</a>, De Souza batted the ball with her right foot into the goal in the 50th.

Leading 2-1, Lowe added an insurance goal in the 84th minute on a feed from De Souza after a long corner kick.

Lowe now has 30 career goals and 70 career points. The 30 goals tie Madison Joyce for ninth in Blue Dragon history. The 70 points move Lowe into 15th place on that career list.

The lone goal the Blue Dragons gave up came in the 72nd minute off a free kick where Garden City's Hannah Duncan drove a long ball past goalkeeper&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2022-23/bios/felix-cardona_olivia_1k3f">Olivia Felix-Cardona</a>. Felix-Cardona improved to 6-2 as a starter.

De Souza totaled three points in the match with an assist and a goal.

The Blue Dragons have three games remaining in the regular season, two coming on the road including the next match on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at Dodge City.

NFL's concussion protocol modified after Tagovailoa review

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — The NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed to make changes to the league's concussion protocol following a joint investigation into the procedures after Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered what was described as a back injury against the Buffalo Bills last month. The league and players' union said in a joint statement Saturday that the Dolphins followed the league's protocol after the injury, but the outcome of the Tagovailoa case "was not what was intended when the Protocol was drafted." As a result, language addressing abnormality of balance/stability was added to the league's protocol.

Green absence from Warriors 'mutual decision' after punch

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Draymond Green will be away from the defending champion Golden State Warriors indefinitely. Coach Steve Kerr says its a "mutual decision" after the star forward violently punched teammate Jordan Poole in the face Wednesday. Green had been scheduled to rejoin the team for practice Saturday. He said he expects to play in Golden State's season-opener on Oct. 18, but he is unsure of his status as well as how long he will be away.

DENVER (AP) — A person with knowledge of the procedure confirms to The Associated Press that Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson flew to Los Angeles on Friday to get an injection for his ailing throwing shoulder. The NFL Network first reported the news Saturday. Wilson landed on the injury report last week and coach Nathaniel Hackett said he had gotten "dinged up" in the Broncos' loss at Las Vegas. Wilson played poorly in the Broncos' 12-9 overtime loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night. Afterward he mentioned "battling" shoulder discomfort but didn't blame the injury for his performance.

The University of Kansas announced plans Friday for long-awaited renovations to Memorial Stadium, the Anderson Family Football Complex and other facilities along with potential conference, entertainment and retail spaces.

The school has long studied ways to renovate the aging stadium, one of the oldest football venues in major college football, but support has been tepid as the Jayhawks struggled through year after year of losing seasons. The few upgrades that have taken place have been largely cosmetic, leaving the old concrete bowl almost entirely untouched.

But buoyed by a 5-0 start to the season, which has energized fans of the No. 19 Jayhawks, the school decided it was time to make public the behind-the-scenes discussions that have been taking place for the last several months.

"This project is unmatched in its vision to benefit a broad range of KU constituents while signaling a new era for Kansas football,” Jayhawks athletic director Travis Goff said. “Once complete, this project will ensure our football program has the facilities it needs to compete at the highest level and provide the best possible game-day experience for student-athletes and fans. Moreover, we are thrilled this project goes beyond football to benefit the entire university and the region.”

The Jayhawks face No. 17 TCU on Saturday in a showdown of unbeatens. It is the third consecutive sellout for the school, and ESPN has brought its popular “College Gameday” program to campus for the first time.

The project comes during a transformative era in college sports, where the appeal of schools amid conference realignment — even at Kansas, the defending men's basketball national champion — has been dictated almost entirely by football.

Kansas has chosen HNTB as the lead architect for its project. It will begin early next year with renovations to the football complex that are designed to improve the student-athlete experience, along with appealing to potential recruits, and include groundwork for the bigger renovation to the stadium.

The project, which is expected to cost more than $300 million, will be funded primarily through private donations, economic development funds, premium seating sales and future development opportunities on site.

“The intersection near 11th and Mississippi streets is a primary campus entrance for prospective students, alumni and guests,” Kansas Chancellor Douglas Girod said. “For these reasons, it’s the ideal location to develop a new gateway with multi-use facilities to better serve these audiences, generate revenue for academic programming, drive economic growth in the region, and reimagine our football facilities.”

The renovations to Memorial Stadium are likely to attract the most attention. The school is promising improved sight lines and seating experiences in the lower bowl, where fans are currently far from the field because of the existence of the since-removed athletics track, along with improved concourses, premium seating and other amenities.

Exact renderings of the stadium will be revealed later, once the school and partner Elevate Sports Ventures conduct fan focus groups and solicit other feedback from influential donors on what they envision in a football facility.

“Now more than ever, college athletics – and certainly sustained success in the sport of football – are critical to the health and vibrancy of our entire university community,” Goff said. “There is tremendous excitement for this project among donors and partners who believe in KU’s mission, and in partnership with KU Endowment, we’ll be reaching out in earnest to our benefactors and supporters to ensure this ambitious vision becomes reality.”

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — The Las Vegas Raiders defense has allowed 13 touchdowns this season, seven coming through the air.

And five of them were thrown by AFC West rivals Justin Herbert of the Chargers and Denver's Russell Wilson.

Monday night the Raiders (1-3) face the division’s best quarterback in Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes, who will provide their secondary its stiffest test of the season.

"He’s at such an elite status in terms of his ability to perform under pressure, make plays within the system,” Las Vegas defensive coordinator Patrick Graham said. “It’s a difficult challenge and I think our preparation for each week, we try to attack it brand new whoever the opponent is and try to see what they do best, how can we take it away, who are they going to in certain situations?”

With the Chiefs (3-1) and Mahomes, the Raiders are presented with numerous issues that are sure to challenge a secondary that has the slimmest margin for errors.

Mahomes, who ranks seventh in the league with 1,106 yards passing, is tied for first with 11 passing touchdowns, alongside Detroit’s Jared Goff and Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson. He has 2,546 yards passing in eight career games against the Raider, more than he's accumulated against any other opponent.

“He’s getting comfortable, he’s getting older, he’s getting wiser,” veteran safety Duron Harmon said about Mahomes. “He knows where he wants to go with the football. He’s doing a good job of getting the ball out quick. Even when it’s dropped back, he just knows where he wants to go with the ball. This is a young quarterback who has continued to grow year after year, game after game.”

And considering that growth, Mahomes knows the area of Las Vegas’ secondary he can attack.

For instance, per Pro Football Focus, safety Johnathan Abram has allowed three touchdowns in coverage in four games for the Raiders against the Chiefs. Overall, Abram has allowed 19 receptions on 20 targets for 237 yards along with the three scores versus the Chiefs.

To his credit, though, Abram leads the secondary and ranks second on the team with 29 tackles combined.

Cornerbacks Nate Hobbs and Amik Robertson will patrol the outside and are coming in after productive performances against Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos.

“I think we're very confident, we just got to fix some small things that we know we’re capable of fixing,” Robertson said. “Because a guy like Mahomes, you make a few mistakes, you might regret it at the end of the game. He’s one of the best quarterbacks in this league.”

And as its secondary has improved progressively each week, the Chiefs know better than to take desperate, one-win Las Vegas lightly.

“It’s kind of the same old secondary, honestly,” Kansas City receiver Mecole Hardman said. “I think they are led by 2-4 (Abram). (They’re) a group of guys that are going to get after the ball (and) that’s going to challenge you every single play. So, it’s just got to be something that we got to be ready for. We’ve got to get ready (and) we’ve got to get in on the run game. Get ready to block them guys and just make plays whenever we’ve got the chance to. They’re definitely a good group of guys and we’re going to look forward to playing them.”

Despite a 7-1 mark against the Raiders, Mahomes is anticipating a tight battle.

“It’s going to be ... both teams trying to play their best football,” Mahomes said. “It’s a true rivalry, we know that it doesn’t matter what the records are, you’re going to go out there and play. It’s going to be a dog fight. And they have a great football team, their record – they don’t have the best record - but every game, they’ve been in the game or been leading the game at certain points.”

Scott Fritchen</a> AMES, Iowa&nbsp;- The latest nail-biting installment of the Kansas State-Iowa State rivalry, called Farmageddon, ended shortly after 9 p.m. But for a third-straight Saturday, it was 9AM for another Big 12 Conference opponent. <a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8597">Adrian Martinez</a>, adoringly called "9AM," took a final kneel down, K-State head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/coaches.aspx?rc=1637">Chris Klieman</a>&nbsp;pumped his fist on the visitor's sideline, and more than 60,000 at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa, stood in silence as time ticked down on the Wildcats' fourth-quarter comeback victory. No. 20 K-State 10, Iowa State 9. Martinez, who accounted for 669 total yards and nine touchdowns in wins over then-No. 6 Oklahoma (41-34) and Texas Tech (38-27), threw for 246 yards and one touchdown and added 19 carries for 77 yards, and the Wildcats' defense, called countless times to hold down the Cyclones' offense, stiffened again and again. "We're undefeated in Big 12 play and that's what we want," Martinez said. "That's where we are right now. Everything going forward is about how can we solidify that and keep doing that and keep winning in this league. Each week is a fight." Iowa State dropped to 3-3 overall and is 0-3 in the Big 12 for the first time since 2016. K-State outgained Iowa State 388 to 276 and held the Cyclones to just 5 of 15 on third downs. That the Wildcats limited Dekkers to just 198 passing yards while completing 22 of 38 passes, and limited the Cyclones to just 78 rushing yards on 24 carries underscored their outstanding performance. &nbsp; Iowa State entered the game outscoring its opponents 37-7 in the fourth quarter. K-State allowed the Cyclones a field goal in the first, second and third quarters, and then finally delivered the knockout punch and held the Cyclones off the scoreboard over the final 15 minutes. "That was an emphasis all week long. K-State struck first and fast, as Martinez found Brooks streaking down the field for an 81-yard catch-and-run touchdown and a 7-0 lead less than 3 minutes into the game. It was the longest K-State completion since 2017 and ended up being the only time K-State or Iowa State reached the end zone. Martinez answered any questions as to whether the Wildcats could throw the ball if Iowa State and the nation's eighth-ranked rushing defense took away the run. He completed 5 of 9 passes for 187 yards and one touchdown in the first half. Although K-State had 16 carries for 48 yards on the ground in the first half, Martinez used his arm to fluster the Cyclones. &nbsp; Dekkers found ever-dangerous Hutchinson and tight end DeShawn Hanika for gains of 38 and 25 yards, but the Wildcats held tough and forced a Gilbert 35-yard field goal. K-State led 7-3. Martinez again connected with Brooks for a 21-yard connection. That gave Brooks two catches for 102 yards and one touchdown — the first 100-yard receiving game of his career. However, Iowa State clamped down and forced a punt. Highlighting the four-play, 75-yard scoring drive was a 52-yard pass play from Bean to redshirt-freshman Tanaka Scott, where Scott shook a TCU tackler and raced down the left side line.&nbsp;Kansas senior Kenny Logan Jr. forced a fumble and recovered it on TCU’s next drive at the TCU 40-yard line. Five plays later Bean connected to Grimm on an eight-yard touchdown pass to give the home team a 17-10 lead with 7:36 remaining in the third quarter.&nbsp;TCU tied the game at 17-17 on the next drive and then took advantage of an interception making it 24-17 on a five-play, 26-yard drive with 3:59 remaining in the third quarter.&nbsp;Kansas answered TCU’s 14-point run with a four-play, 72-yard drive to knot the game at 24-24 when Bean hit Skinner on a 38-yard touchdown pass. It was Skinner’s second touchdown of the season.&nbsp;TCU broke the tie with a 50-yard touchdown drive to make it 31-24 just before the end of the third quarter.&nbsp;Kansas tied the game for the fourth time in the second half, at 31-31, with a four-play 61-yard drive culminating with a 29-yard Bean to Skinner touchdown pass with 4:21 remaining.&nbsp;TCU scored the game winner with 1:36 remaining and Kansas would drive to the TCU 34-yard line before turning it over on downs ending KU’s chances.&nbsp;In the second quarter, Kansas drove down to the TCU one-yard line after mounting its best drive of the first half. The drive went for 80 yards and was highlighted by a 48-yard reception from junior Jalon Daniels to senior Manson Fairchild and a 21-yard rush by Neal. TCU recovered a KU fumble, ending the drive and then went on a 99-yard scoring drive of its own to take a 10-0 lead with 3:26 before intermission.&nbsp;On the ensuing drive, Kansas marched 53 yards in eight plays to the TCU 22-yard line. Redshirt-junior kicker Jacob Borcila then connected on a 40-yard field goal to make the score 10-3 in favor of TCU with 36 seconds before halftime.
