For the second straight season Wichita State tied a school record with five All-Region honorees. McKinney is joined by&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/softball/roster/addison-barnard/7228">Addison Barnard</a>&nbsp;(Second Team),&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/softball/roster/alex-aguilar/7249">Alex Aguilar</a>&nbsp;(Third Team),&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/softball/roster/lauren-lucas/7235">Lauren Lucas</a>&nbsp;(Third Team) and&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/softball/roster/lauren-mills/7237">Lauren Mills</a>&nbsp;(Third Team). A Norborne, Mo. native, McKinney becomes a three-time NFCA All-Region pick, and a first time First Team selection. She leads the country in batting average (.519) and hits (97) and is looking to become the first player in NCAA history to lead the nation in both categories in consecutive seasons. McKinney is the 2023 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and unanimous All-Conference First Team selection. This is also the third straight year on the All-Central Region Team for Barnard. She was on the First Team a season ago and Second Team as a freshman. Barnard is hitting .373 with eight doubles, four triples, 14 home runs, 35 RBI, 58 runs scored and 21 stolen bases. Her eight doubles and four triples are both career highs. A true freshman, Aguilar burst onto the scene in 2023. The Texas native is 14-2 with a 1.54 ERA in 104.2 innings. She has thrown six complete game shutouts. Aguilar was a unanimous pick for American Rookie of the Year after ranking fourth among all freshmen pitchers in ERA. In conference games, Aguilar was a perfect 8-0 in the circle. For the second straight season Lucas landed on the Third Team after another stellar season at the plate. She is hitting .398 with 15 doubles, seven triples, four home runs and 59 RBI. Lucas ranks in the top 10 nationally in triples and RBI, both of which are career highs. Rounding out the Third Team is the senior Mills. Mills has totaled nine home runs and 42 RBI to go with a .368 batting average. Her 37 walks are a career high. The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with First, Second and Third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated student-athletes and voted for the teams. WICHITA, Kan. -&nbsp;Wichita State head women's basketball coach Terry Nooner and Director of Athletics Kevin Saal announced a home-and-home series with Kansas for the next two seasons. Wichita State will host the Jayhawks in Charles Koch Arena during the 2023-24 season and make the return trip to Lawrence in 2024-25. Game dates will be announced when the full non-conference schedule is revealed. Nooner&nbsp;is no stranger to the Kansas program having spent the last three seasons on staff under head coach Brandon Schneider. Kansas leads the all-time series, 33-7. The Jayhawks won the regular season meeting this past season in Allen Fieldhouse, 72-52.&nbsp;&nbsp;

🏀 WBB: WSU, Kansas agree to future series

WICHITA, Kan.-Double plays, diving catches, and close tags were on display tonight. The Wichita Wind Surge played a defense heavy baseball game this evening.

They could not come up with the win as the Surge’s six-game win streak has come to an end.

Pitching was on display for both teams early on. Carlos Luna for the Surge, in his sixth start of the season, only gave up two hits and two runs over five and a third innings.

Bryan Woo for the Travelers was able to stay in a bit longer and pitched for 6 full innings. He gave up one run and seven hits.

A single run home run to left field from Alex Isola in the fourth inning was the sole run scored for the Surge tonight. The Surge ended the game with a total of nine hits.

The only scoring play for the Travelers was a two run home run from Connor Hoover who also brought Josh Morgan in with him. They were limited to eight hits as well.

The matchup between the Wichita Wind Surge and the Arkansas Travelers looks to be turning into a tight series as the Travelers win tonight tied it up 1-1.

The throw was captured by cameras for Diamondbacks’ broadcaster Bally Sports Arizona. Johnson infamously killed a bird during a spring training game in 2001. UNDATED (AP) — A Florida judge has sided with superstar golfer Tiger Woods in a legal dispute with his ex-girlfriend. Judge Elizabeth Metzger rejected late Wednesday an attempt by Erica Herman to throw out her nondisclosure agreement with Woods. Metzger called Herman's allegation that was a victim of sexual harassment “vague and threadbare.” She also said that Herman's questioning if whether she actually signed the agreement is also something that should be decided by the arbitrator. Herman has been suing Woods and the trust that owns his Florida mansion, seeking $30 million from the latter. Herman and Woods were together for about five years before they split in October.

NEWTON, Kan. – Day 2 of the NJCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship was pretty similar to Day 1 for the Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons on Wednesday.

The Dragons had a strong start, then struggled through the middle holes only to grind to a good finish in the second round at Sand Creek Station. Hutchinson shot a 3-over-par 291 on Wednesday and is in ninth place at the halfway point of the 2023 Championship.

Round 3 of the 72-hole event is Thursday with Blue Dragon tee times from Noon to 12:40 p.m. Hutchinson will be paired with Blinn and McLennan for the third round on Thursday.

The Blue Dragons made an early move on Wednesday led by sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/clemons_dominic_18vf">Dominic Clemons</a>&nbsp;who had birdies on Nos. 1, 3 and 4 and Hutchinson was 4-under par through four holes and up to a tie for fifth after starting the round eighth in the team standings.

Over the next 10 holes, the Blue Dragons played 8-over par with the Blue Dragons registering only two birdies over that span of holes. The Dragons closed the round with birdies from&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/anderson_marco_z2pq">Marco Anderson</a>&nbsp;on Nos. 16 and 18 and birdies on No. 18 from&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/galvin_louis_mscz">Louis Galvin</a>&nbsp;and Clemons to finish the round 3-under par over the final three holes to close at 291 on Wednesday.

Now at 4-over 580 for 36 holes, the Blue Dragons are in ninth place through two rounds. Team leader Indian Hills is at 14-under par 562. The Warriors shot 4-under 284 on Wednesday. New Mexico Junior College had a team-low round of 11-under 277 on Wednesday and trails Indian Hills by one stroke. Midland and Western Texas are tied for third at 572.

The Blue Dragons counted scores of 71 from Clemons, 72 from Galvin, 73 from&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/saffell_blake_2ov2">Blake Saffell</a>&nbsp;and 75 from Anderson.

Galvin leads the Blue Dragons through 36 holes at 1-over par 145, which is tied for 38th. Galvin started the day 2-over par through four holes, but closed the round with 12 pars and birdies on Nos. 5 and 18 to post an even-par 72.

Clemons shot the Blue Dragons low round of the day at 71 with five birdies and four bogeys. He closed his round with a short downhill birdie putt on No. 18. Clemons is tied for 50th at 3-over 147.

Saffell and Lindstrom are also tied at 147 with Clemons.

Saffell had one birdie and two bogeys in the second round. Lindstrom shot a 78 in the second round.

Anderson was 4-over par through nine holes, but mixed in three birdies and two bogeys on the back nine to finish with a 75. Anderson is tied for 62nd at 4-over 148.

New Mexico's Matthis Lefevre birdied No. 18 on Wednesday to take a one-stroke lead at 7-under 137. There is a three-way tie for second at 138 with New Mexico's Will Green, Indian Hills' Gaspar Glaudas and first-round leader Keith Hunter of Wallace State.

⛳  Blue Dragons 9th at mid-point of NJCAA Championship

SAN DIEGO (AP) — What was left of the crowd of 32,416 at Petco Park on a gloomy afternoon loudly booed the San Diego Padres after Ha-Seong Kim made the last out of a dismal 4-3 loss to the lowly Kansas City Royals.

It wasn't the first time Wednesday frustrated fans let the high-priced Padres have it as they continued to flounder with runners in scoring position and make baserunning blunders.

The Padres were supposed to be so much better this year, with baseball's third-highest payroll and a quartet of superstars in Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr., Xander Bogaerts and Juan Soto. Yet they dropped two of three to the Royals, who are last in the AL Central, and have lost nine of 11 overall to tumble to fourth place in the NL West, eight games behind the rival Los Angeles Dodgers and four games under .500.

“I mean, we're frustrated. The way that we finished the game, I would boo ourselves, too," Tatis said.

Machado, sidelined indefinitely after finding out he has a fractured bone in his left hand, agreed.

“I don’t blame them. We’re not playing well right now," said Machado, who was hurt when he was hit by a pitch Monday night and doesn't know if he'll need to go on the injured list. "There’s an expectation that we had coming into the season and they expect us to go out there and win every single game. I think collectively as a group we’ve got to go out there and be better as a group. We’ve got to trust the process. Things really aren’t really rolling our way right now, at all.”

The season opened with World Series aspirations after the Padres made a stirring run to the NL Championship Series last fall. Now there's an ugly skid that includes five losses in six games to the Dodgers, beaten by San Diego in four games during their Division Series last October.

Vinnie Pasquantino hit a tiebreaking two-run homer off Yu Darvish for the Royals. His homer to right field, his eighth, and Maikel Garcia's RBI double gave Kansas City a 4-1 lead in the sixth inning.

The Padres went 2 for 9 with runners in scoring position and stranded 12 overall.

San Diego's offensive woes continued despite Kansas City needing a bullpen day. The Padres scored twice in the sixth to pull to 4-3 but Tatis, moved down to third in the lineup, popped out weakly with the bases loaded to end the inning.

The Padres loaded the bases with one out in the seventh against Aroldis Chapman, but Trent Grisham struck out for the fourth straight time and then a wild pitch by Chapman caromed off the backstop right back to catcher Salvador Perez, who easily tagged out Juan Soto trying to score, ending the inning.

That blunder came one day after the Padres made two critical outs on the bases late in a 5-4 loss.

“We feel like we took good at-bats as an offense today and we keep the line moving, but we just couldn’t execute at the end,” Tatis said.

The Padres kept the clubhouse closed for several minutes afterward.

“Just as a group coming together, as a group just talking, seeing what’s going on and just giving some honest feedback each one to each other, as a group together,” Tatis said. “Of course, there’s frustration. Everybody’s been coming to this clubhouse, been working so hard. ... But just at the end of the day, it’s just not happening right now.”

Royals opener Carlos Hernández held the Padres to two hits in two scoreless innings while striking out four.

The Padres’ recurring woes with runners in scoring position intensified against Mike Mayers, who came on to start the third and made his Royals debut after having his contract selected from Triple-A Omaha. Tatis came up with runners on first and second with one out in the third and grounded into a double play.

Mayers got out of a huge jam in the fourth when he loaded the bases with one out, on a single and consecutive walks, before striking out Grisham and Austin Nola to elicit boos from the crowd.

Jake Cronenworth homered to right in the fifth, his fourth, to tie the game at 1.

MJ Melendez hit an RBI double for the Royals in the fourth.

Josh Taylor (1-1) got two outs for the win. Scott Barlow pitched a perfect ninth for his sixth save.

“Big series, especially after going to Milwaukee and getting swept,” Pasquantino said. “I think it would have been really easy to fall asleep, essentially, and not lock in for the rest of this series, but it was a really resilient job of the guys being able to lock in for these three games.”

Darvish (2-3) allowed four runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Royals: Transferred LHP Ryan Yarbrough (skull fractures) to the 60-day injured list. Placed LHP Amir Garrett on the family medical emergency list.

Royals: RHP Zack Greinke (1-4, 5.01 ERA) is scheduled to start Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at the Chicago White Sox, who will counter with RHP Michael Kopech (1-4, 5.74).

Padres: LHP Blake Snell (1-5, 4.61) is set to start Friday night in the opener of a weekend series against the Boston Red Sox, who will go with LHP James Paxton (0-0, 3.60).

As Wichita State's Saturday starter, he has gone 9-2 with a 3.78 ERA in 78.2 innings, the most wins and innings pitched in the conference. ⚾ Tolle named semifinalist for John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year award

WICHITA, Kan.—11 hits, six runs and a lot of heart is what the Wichita Wind Surge put on display for their home crowd. In the first game of a six-game home stint the Wind Surge kept their winning streak alive. They have now won a season high six in a row. First place Arkansas had its seven game win streak end.

Arkansas started the game with a two-run homer from Isiah Gilliam when he drove in Robbie Tenerowicz.

The Surge answered right back in the bottom of the second. Alerick Soularie hit a line drive RBI out to right field that brought in David Banuelos.

The scoring did not stop for the Surge. They took the lead in the third inning as Alex Isola crushed a ball out into the berm in left field that drove in Will Holland. The score was now 3-2, but not for long.

A tough couple of throws and an error from third baseman Yunior Severino allowed the Travelers to steal the lead back. They secured two runs of their own in the top of the fifth which brought the score to 3-4.

Half an inning later, in the bottom of the fifth, the Surge struck gold again. There was no hesitation in Brooks Lee as he rocketed a ball for a two-shot home run that brought in Will Holland. The lead was once again with the Wind Surge as it was now 5-4.

In the bottom of the 8th the Surge decided they wanted to put the game away. Jake Rucker hit a line drive for a double out into left field and drove in Brooks Lee for an RBI. The score of 6-4 would go on to be the final score as the Surge won.

The winning pitcher was Chad Donato in relief and the losing pitcher was Kyle Tyler.

NOTES – Alerick Soularie and DaShawn Keirsey, Jr extended their hitting streaks to seven games.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Salvador Perez hit a two-run double in Kansas City’s five-run second, Brady Singer pitched six solid innings and the Royals beat the San Diego Padres 5-4 on Tuesday night to snap a four-game losing streak. The Royals jumped on starter Seth Lugo (3-3) in the second, with Bobby Witt Jr., Nate Eaton and Matt Duffy also driving in runs. Lugo gave up five runs on four hits in his two innings. The Padres have lost eight of 10. Singer (3-4) lasted six innings, giving up seven hits and four runs, two of which were earned. Scott Barlow got his fifth save with a scoreless ninth. San Diego had a defensive highlight in the seventh when Fernando Tatis Jr. threw-out Vinnie Pasquantino trying to go from first to third on a single.

Anthony Davis scored 40 points for the Lakers and LeBron James came up one assist shy of a triple double to go with his 26 points and 12 rebounds.

It was the second time in that span that he lost a series lead and a Game 7. Rivers led the 76ers to their second straight 50-win season behind NBA MVP Joel Embiid but again failed to lead them to the Eastern Conference Finals or beyond. The 76ers held a 3-2 semifinal series lead against Boston before dropping Game 6 at home and were crushed in Game 7 on the road. Rivers fell to 6-10 in Game 7s. He had two years left on his contract. He won the 2008 NBA title as coach of the Boston Celtics.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Salvador Perez hit a two-run double in Kansas City's five-run second, Brady Singer pitched six solid innings and the Royals beat the San Diego Padres 5-4 on Tuesday night to snap a four-game losing streak.

The Royals jumped on starter Seth Lugo (3-3) in the second, with Bobby Witt Jr., Nate Eaton and Matt Duffy also driving in runs. Lugo gave up five runs on four hits in his two innings. The Padres have lost eight of 10.

“That was really good for us tonight. That is a great win, you know, against a team like the Padres. They are a really good team,” Perez said. “We scored five runs, and we got the game.”

Singer (3-4) lasted six innings, giving up seven hits and four runs, two of which were earned. Scott Barlow got his fifth save with a scoreless ninth.

"The fastball had really good late movement on it. I was able to move that around the zone. The slider helped me a lot tonight," Singer said. “I think I attacked the zone pretty well tonight.”

San Diego had a defensive highlight in the seventh when Fernando Tatis Jr. threw-out Vinnie Pasquantino trying to go from first to third on a single. After the play Tatis acted like he was putting a pistol back in a holster.

“I wasn't a big fan,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said of the attempt by Pasquantino to take third base. “We know he (Tatis) is super talented in every aspect of the game and throwing is certainly nothing he is lacking.”

The Padres scored two unearned runs in the fifth after consecutive errors by Kansas City’s MJ Melendez and Matt Duffy.

“Those things are going to happen. You just have to make pitches and pick them up,” Singer said of the errors. “That is just part of baseball. ... You have got to be able to overcome that.”

Kansas City reliever Ardolis Chapman pitched the seventh and threw a 104-mph fastball to Jake Cronenworth, which ties the fastest pitch of the 2023 season.

“That's amazing,” Perez said of Champan's feat.

San Diego continues to struggle offensively and had two runners picked off first base in the game.

“It's just a little bit the way we've been playing,” Padres manager Bob Melvin said of his team's losing skid. “It's just not in sync all the way around. You don't expect base-running to cost you."

Royals RHP Max Castillo was optioned to Triple-A Omaha, and RHP Jackson Kowar was called up from Omaha. Kowar had a 7.84 ERA over 20-2/3 innings coming out of the Omaha bullpen this season.

A day after Padres 3B Manny Machado was hit by a pitch on the left hand, he was out of the starting lineup Tuesday. Machado is experiencing soreness and swelling, but X-rays came back negative. It seems likely the Padres will sit Machado as a precaution on Wednesday for the series finale ahead of an off-day Thursday.

NEWTON – After two straight national tournaments of leading wire-to-wire, the No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team faces a deficit after Round 1 of the 2023 NJCAA Division I Championships on Tuesday at Sand Creek Station.

The No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons are 11 strokes off the pace of Indian Hills after 18 holes. The Blue Dragons shot a 1-over-par 289 on Tuesday.

Round 2 of the 72-hole championship is Wednesday at Sand Creek Station. First tee times are set for 7:30 a.m. The Blue Dragons, who are again paired with New Mexico Junior College and Midland College, tee off from 1:20 to 2 p.m.

The Blue Dragons had a strong start, playing the first five holes in 3-under par. Hutchinson then struggled from holes 6 through 14 with 14 bogeys and only four birdies as the Blue Dragons fell nine spots in the team standings to a tie for 12th.

Hutchinson built some momentum for Wednesday and climbed back into the Top 10 with a good finish that included two birdies each from&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/lindstrom_alex_7wqw">Alex Lindstrom</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/saffell_blake_2ov2">Blake Saffell</a>&nbsp;and a&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/galvin_louis_mscz">Louis Galvin</a>&nbsp;birdie. The Dragons played the final four holes in 3-under par to close at 289.

Indian Hills leads the team standings after 18 holes at 10-under 278. Eastern Florida State is second at 281. Western Texas is at 282 and McLennan is fourth at 283.

This is the first time since 2019 that the Blue Dragons have not led the national tournament after a round. After no tournament in 2020 because of the pandemic, the Blue Dragons led the 2021 and 2022 championships after the opening round and never relinquished the lead.

Lindstrom, who on Monday night was named the Phil Mickelson NJCAA Freshman of the Year, led the Blue Dragons with a 3-under-par round of 69. Lindstrom had four birdies and just one bogey in his opening round. Lindstrom closed strong with birdies on Nos. 16 and 28.

Lindstrom is the only Blue Dragon currently in the Top 10, tied for seventh at 3-under par. Lindstrom was one of 32 golfers to shoot under par on Tuesday.

Galvin and fellow freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/anderson_marco_z2pq">Marco Anderson</a>&nbsp;both carded 1-over 73s on Tuesday, which is tied for 46th.

Galvin was 1-under through nine holes, but had three bogeys over the next six holes before a birdie on No. 16 and pars on the final two holes.

Anderson was 2-under through five holes, but had four birdies and five bogeys to finish at 1-over par after the first round.

Saffell was 4-over par through 13 holes, but put together a strong final five holes with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 and a near miss of a birdie on No. 18 to finish at 2-over 74. Saffell is tied for 61st after the opening round.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/clemons_dominic_18vf">Dominic Clemons</a>&nbsp;finished Day 1 with a 4-over 76. Clemons is tied for 85th after 18 holes.

Wallace State's Keith Hunter is the individual leader with a 5-under 67. Six golfers are one stroke off the lead after 68s on Tuesday.

⛳  Blue Dragons 8th after day 1 at NJCAA Championships

McPherson, Kan.&nbsp;— The McPherson Bullpup baseball team won it's ninth straight game, and more importantly advanced to the class 4A state tournament with a 6-2 win over Buhler in the regional championship game.

McPherson got past El Dorado, 14-0 in the regional semifinal before beating their rival in the title game. The Bullpups and Crusaders split their two games in the regular season, Buhler winning the first meeting before McPherson won recent game at home on April 6. The Bullpups advance to their second straight class 4A state tourney with the win on Tuesday.

Buhler loaded the bases with nobody out in the second and would eventually take a 2-0 lead after an inning and a half. McPherson didn't wait long to plate it's first run, as Carter Allen crushed a 3-run double to left field, giving the Pups a 3-2 lead. McPherson plated one more run in the inning and led 4-2 after two complete.

The Bullpups had back-to-back hits in the third, resulting in two more runs and giving the hosts a 6-2 lead. Although Buhler out hit the Bullpups, 8-7, the Bullpups' defense stayed strong and didn't let any more damage happen.

The Crusaders had won their last two meetings against McPherson in regional title games, including 2016 en route to it's state title and in 2018.&nbsp;

 </figure>McPherson, Kan.&nbsp;— The McPherson Bullpup baseball team won it's ninth straight game, and more importantly advanced to the class 4A state tournament with a 6-2 win over Buhler in the regional championship game.McPherson got past El Dorado, 14-0 in the regional semifinal before beating their rival in the title game. The Bullpups and Crusaders split their two games in the regular season, Buhler winning the first meeting before McPherson won recent game at home on April 6. The Bullpups advance to their second straight class 4A state tourney with the win on Tuesday.Buhler loaded the bases with nobody out in the second and would eventually take a 2-0 lead after an inning and a half. McPherson didn't wait long to plate it's first run, as Carter Allen crushed a 3-run double to left field, giving the Pups a 3-2 lead. McPherson plated one more run in the inning and led 4-2 after two complete.The Bullpups had back-to-back hits in the third, resulting in two more runs and giving the hosts a 6-2 lead. Although Buhler out hit the Bullpups, 8-7, the Bullpups' defense stayed strong and didn't let any more damage happen.The Crusaders had won their last two meetings against McPherson in regional title games, including 2016 en route to it's state title and in 2018.&nbsp;---------------------------------------------------------4A Baseball Regional (McPherson) (4) McPherson def. ⚾ McPherson is state bound, other results from Tuesday's regionals

HESSTON, Kan. — The Hesston Swathers boys golf team made a statement on it's home course on Tuesday, winning the 3A regional title by 18 strokes over Wichita Collegiate at the Hesston Golf Course. 

The Swathers were led by Camden Waterson, who finished 2-over par for a 73 in the 18-hole regional. Palmer Welsh wasn't far behind, carding a 4-over total of 75.

The Hesston Golf Course was a busy place on Tuesday, as the course also hosted the class 4A regional hosted by Buhler.
