No. 3 Arizona jumps 9 places in AP Top 25 behind Kansas, Purdue; James Madison ranked for first time

Kansas remained at No. 1 in the first Associated Press men's college basketball poll of the season. The Jayhawks received 51 first-place votes from a media panel and were followed by Purdue, Arizona, Marquette and Connecticut. Arizona had the biggest jump from the preseason poll, moving up nine spots after beating No. 9 Duke on the road. No. 24 James Madison moved into the AP Top 25 for the first time following a road win over No. 18 Michigan State.

Baltimore's Gunnar Henderson and Arizona's Corbin Carroll unanimous Rookie of the Year winners

PHOENIX (AP) — Baltimore Orioles infielder Gunnar Henderson and Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll were both unanimous selections for MLB's Rookie of the Year awards on Monday night, with Henderson winning the honor in the American League and Carroll earning the National League award. The well-rounded stars used power, speed and defense to help their respective franchises to the playoffs after both teams lost 110 games just two seasons ago. It's just the fifth time overall and the first time since 2017 that both the AL and NL selections were unanimous. Aaron Judge won that year for the Yankees while Cody Bellinger won for the Dodgers.

Wisconsin state Senate to vote on downsized Milwaukee Brewers stadium repair bill

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin state Senate is poised to approve a plan to spend more than half a billion dollars on repairs at the Milwaukee Brewers' stadium over the next three decades. The Senate is expected to vote on the proposal during a floor session scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday. The state Assembly approved a plan in October that calls for the state to contribute $411.5 million and the city and county of Milwaukee to contribute $135 million. The version of the plan up for a Senate vote ratchets the state contribution back to $382.5 million.

Jim Harbaugh says Sherrone Moore will lead No. 2 Michigan if a judge doesn't rule in school's favor

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Jim Harbaugh stood behind a lectern and delivered prepared remarks Monday to kick off a week in which he will either lose another opportunity to coach No. 2 Michigan or win a hearing to at least temporarily lift the Big Ten's penalty against him for a sign-stealing scheme. Harbaugh shared his take on various topics but said he would save his opinions on the conference's punishment for his day in court, which comes Friday. Sherrone Moore will fill in for Harbaugh if he's still suspended for Saturday's game at Maryland.

Tourists find the Las Vegas Strip remade for its turn hosting Formula One

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Bellagio fountains on the Las Vegas Strip won't be very visible. No gondolas will be in the Venetian resort canal. And the views of the roadway from beneath the glittering casino marquees will be limited as Formula One comes to town this week. Organizers, local officials and hotel operators believe disruptions and discomforts will be forgotten amid a spectacle they hope will put Las Vegas next to Monaco on the list of host cities for Grand Prix events around the world. They expect the races Thursday through Saturday will draw some of the most monied spectators in sports to Nevada.

Olympic sports bodies want talks with IOC after cricket and others were added to 2028 LA program

GENEVA (AP) — Olympic sports bodies want urgent talks with the IOC about the risk of cuts in their revenue shares and athlete quotas at the 2028 Los Angeles Games because cricket and other newcomers have been added to the program. The International Olympic Committee last month approved cricket, baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse and squash for 2028. The Olympic body also kept boxing, modern pentathlon or weightlifting despite their status being in doubt. The Summer Games sports umbrella group known as ASOIF says the 2028 expansion to a record 36 sports "has raised several questions" among its members.

Novak Djokovic gets his trophy after securing year-end No. 1 ranking for a record-extending 8th time

TURIN, Italy (AP) — Novak Djokovic has received his trophy after securing the year-end No. 1 ranking for a record-extending eighth time. Djokovic needed only one match win at the ATP Finals to be sure of keeping the top spot and the 24-time Grand Slam champion secured it in his opener by beating Holger Rune in a match spanning more than three hours on Sunday and into Monday morning. ATP president Andrea Gaudenzi presented Djokovic with the trophy for his achievement on Monday afternoon. Djokovic then posed for pictures with his team of coaches, physical trainers and family members.

Column: F1 learns it overestimated fan demand for Las Vegas, the most expensive race of the year

LAS VEGAS (AP) — There will be bumps in Formula One's $500 million Las Vegas Grand Prix later this week. AP Auto Racing Writer Jenna Fryer writes that the warning signs have been there. With $1 million hospitality packages and exorbitant hotel rates, the race was never about attracting new fans. F1 owner Liberty Media clearly views the race as an international showstopper for the highest of the high rollers. The company may have overestimated the interest. Tickets are still available and hotel prices along the Strip have plummeted ahead of Saturday night's race.

South Carolina jumps to No. 1 in women's AP Top 25 after chaotic week; Colorado crashes top 5

South Carolina moves up to No. 1 after a chaotic opening week that saw nine of the first 14 teams lose, including previous top choice LSU and second-ranked UConn. The Gamecocks were sixth in the preseason poll and received 23 first-place votes from the 36-member national media panel. Iowa was second garnering the other 13 first-place ballots. UCLA, Utah and Colorado rounded out the first five. LSU fell to seventh and UConn dropped to eighth. Despite the loss, the Huskies now have been ranked for 566 consecutive weeks, breaking a tie with Tennessee for the longest streak all-time.

The Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons are well-represented in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rankings released on Monday afternoon.

The Blue Dragon football team remains No. 1 in the Top 15 rankings. Hutchinson finished the regular season with a 10-0 record following a <a href="https://hutchpost.com/posts/6247b7cd-3307-4406-bac3-34fb92e61e73">42-28 win over No. 2 Iowa Western</a> on Saturday afternoon at Gowans Stadium.

The HutchCC women's basketball team cracked the first Top 25 poll of the regular season, coming in at No. 22. The Blue Dragons are currently 5-0 on the season and will travel to No. 11 Dodge City on Saturday to begin Jayhawk Conference play.

The Blue Dragon men's basketball team is off to a 4-1 start on the season and is on the outside looking in at the first rankings of the season. Hutchinson is receiving votes in the poll, and will open KJCCC play at Dodge City on Saturday.

🏈🏀 Blue Dragons well-represented in NJCAA polls released Monday

IRVING, Texas&nbsp;–&nbsp;Kansas senior center Hunter Dickinson averaged 19.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and shot 4-of-4 from three-point range to be named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. This is the first weekly honor for Dickinson and a KU player in 2023-24.

A native of Alexandria, Virginia, Dickinson scored 21 points in just 24 minutes in his Kansas debut against North Carolina Central on Nov. 6, which ended with a 99-56 win for the Jayhawks. Dickinson went 3-of-3 from beyond the arc and was almost perfect from the field, going 8-for-9 with eight rebounds, five assists, two blocked shots and one steal.

In Kansas’ 99-61 win against Manhattan College on Nov. 10, Dickinson posted 18 points, eight rebounds and two assists in 21 minutes. Dickinson has scored in double figures 85 times in his career, including in both of his games at Kansas. Against Manhattan, Dickinson secured his 800th career rebound.

🏀 MBB: KU's Hunter Dickinson named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

The first Associated Press men’s basketball poll of the regular season is typically a jumble of teams swapping positions as preseason expectations meet the reality of playing actual games.

The first poll of the 2023-24 is no different.

Kansas remained at No. 1 and received 51 first-place votes from a 62-person media panel in the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-basketball-poll" target="_blank">poll released Monday</a>, but the rest of the AP Top 25 was filled with teams moving up and down.

No. 2 Purdue moved up a spot with two easy opening wins and received seven first-place votes. No. 3 Arizona took a giant leap from 12 after beating Duke and had three first-place votes.

No. 4 Marquette moved up a spot as did defending national champion Connecticut, which received a first-place vote to round out the top five. No. 24 James Madison moved into the poll for the first time ever after taking down Michigan State in overtime.

Arizona’s rapid rise stemmed from a successful trip to Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The Wildcats were a bit of an unknown entity in coach Tommy Lloyd’s third season with several new players replacing key losses from a team that lost to Princeton in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

Arizona answered some of the questions with an impressive road performance,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/duke-arizona-basketball-16928e8eaa04a704e0fd1575f951a480" target="_blank">knocking off Duke 78-73</a>&nbsp;after blowing out Morgan State in its opener. The Blue Devils dropped to No. 9 after the loss.

“I said play with poise because you’re the better team,” Lloyd said. “Trust that you’re the better team over the course of 40 minutes. I knew that it would be a small margin but I feel like that. I love this group of guys and feel like we’re going to be as good a ball club as anybody in the country.”

DESERVING DUKES James Byington has gradually strengthened James Madison’s program from 13 wins in his first season in 2020-21 to 22 last year.

The Dukes appear to still be on the rise after pulling off the biggest upset of the early season. Unfazed by playing the nation’s No. 4 team on the road, James Madison went to East Lansing and&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/james-madison-michigan-state-upset-bd436ec48918bd344e2c926663f7e026" target="_blank">knocked off Michigan State 79-76</a>&nbsp;in overtime.

The win earned the Dukes their first AP Top 25 ranking since transitioning to Division I in 1976 and knocked the Spartans down 14 spots to No. 18.

“We’re not scared of names,” T.J. Bickerstaff said after scoring 21 points, including a tying shot with 30 seconds left in regulation. “We go hard.”

STEADY OWLS Florida Atlantic had its highest ranking at No. 10 in the preseason poll after last year’s surprising run to the Final Four. The Owls returned nearly everyone from that team and got this season off to a solid start with&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/florida-atlantic-loyola-chicago-79cbb87790966db9e765c83eec5ed56a" target="_blank">a 75-62 win over Loyola Chicago</a>&nbsp;to remain in the top 10 this week.

“New team, new season, new chapter,” Owls coach Dusty May said.

UP AND DOWN Michigan State had the biggest drop from the preseason and Duke was next after dropping seven spots. Arizona had the biggest jump, followed by No. 15 Baylor and No. 16 Southern California, which both climbed five places.

IN AND OUT James Madison was joined by No. 25 Colorado in moving into the AP Top 25 this week. The Buffaloes easily beat Towson and Grambling State to open the season.

San Diego State had a quick fall after finishing as the national runner-up last season. K-State fans can now vote for Howard as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week by&nbsp;<a href="https://allstatesugarbowl.org/poll.aspx?poll=23">clicking here</a>. It was the second time in his career he has been named a Star of the Week, the other being after the 2022 Oklahoma State game.

Howard threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns on 19-of-29 aim, helping the Wildcats earn a 59-25 victory over Baylor. Howard's final touchdown of the afternoon was the 45th&nbsp;of his career as he set the school's career record, passing former first-round NFL Draft pick Josh Freeman (2006-08). It was Howard's fifth game this season with three or more passing touchdowns, the most since Freeman had five such games in 2008. Howard has three or more scoring strikes in three Big 12 games this year, the most since Ell Roberson did so in four games in 2003.

The Blue Dragons complete the regular season undefeated at 10-0 for the second-straight season. The announcement for the NJCAA National Semifinals will be on Monday, November 20. Iowa Western is 10-1. No. 3 Kilgore College defeated New Mexico Military in overtime on Saturday. No. 4 Copiah-Lincoln defeated Northwest Mississippi 48-14 on Saturday.

Kilgore College will now play No. 12 Navarro College in the SWJCFC Championship on Saturday, November 18th. Navarro College defeated No. 7 ranked Trinity Valley 30-29 in the SWJCFC semifinal on Saturday.

Copiah-Lincoln will now play No. 8 ranked East Mississippi on Saturday, November 18th in the MACCC Championship in Wesson, Mississippi. East Mississippi defeated No. 6 ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast 33 to 21 to advance to the Championship game.

No. 5 Snow College is still very much in the playoff picture as the Badgers defeated Monroe College 32-13 on Saturday.

Today's NJCAA poll will be released around 3pm with the final poll coming out on November 18th to determine the top four playoff teams for 2023.

Fisher was lured away from Florida State, where he had won a national championship in 2013, by a massive 10-year, fully guaranteed contract at the end of the 2017 season. The deal was extended back to 10 years after the 2020 season.

Jacobs ended a 14-game streak of failing to gain 100 yards, getting 27 attempts as Pierce committed to a run-first attack.

C.J. Stroud leads another game-winning drive, Texans edge Bengals 30-27 on last-second field goal

CINCINNATI (AP) — Rookie C.J. Stroud directed a last-minute, game-winning drive for the second straight week, finishing with 356 yards passing and leading the Houston Texans to a 30-27 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. With the game tied at 27-all and 1:33 remaining, Stroud moved the Texans 55 yards in six plays to set up a 38-yard field goal by Matt Ammendola as time expired. Noah Brown had 172 yards receiving for the Texans and Devin Singletary ran for 150 yards and a score. Joe Burrow threw for 357 yards and two touchdowns for the Bengals but was intercepted twice in the fourth quarter.

AP Top 25: Georgia's No. 1 streak hits 22, second-best ever. Louisville, Oregon State enter top 10

Georgia extended its streak of weeks being top-ranked in the AP Top 25 to 22, giving the Bulldogs the second-longest run of being No. 1 in the history of the college football poll. The Bulldogs received 54 first-place votes. Georgia broke a tie with Miami, which made 21 straight appearances at No. 1 from 2001-02. The longest No. 1 streak belongs to Southern California. The Trojans spent 33 straight polls at No. 1 from 2003-2005. The entire top eight of this week's Top 25 remained unchanged, with No. 2 Michigan receiving seven first-place votes and No. 3 Ohio State getting one. Louisville and Oregon State entered the top 10.

Tyrese Maxey scores career-high 50 points, leads 76ers to 8th straight win

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Tyrese Maxey scored a career-high 50 points, Joel Embiid had 37 points and the Philadelphia 76ers improved to 8-1 with their eighth straight victory, beating the Indiana Pacers 137-126. Maxey was 20 for 32 from the field and had seven rebounds, five assists and three blocks in the first of two straight games in Philadelphia between the teams. His previous high was 44 against Toronto on Oct. 28, 2022. Embiid had 13 rebounds in 33 minutes. The 76ers are off to their best nine-game start since opening 10-0 in 2000-01 en route to the NBA Finals. Philadelphia played without Kelly Oubre Jr. after he broke a rib when hit by a car in a hit-and-run incident. Tyrese Haliburton led Indiana with 25 points.

Grizzlies' Ja Morant is 'pushing every button possible' to be ready for December return, coach says

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins says Ja Morant "is pushing every button" in preparing to return to the team after his 25-game suspension ends in mid-December. The two-time All-Star guard can't be in the arena during games, but Morant is around the team the rest of the time. Jenkins says Morant has been practicing with the second and third units, attending film sessions and team dinners and hanging out with his teammates after games. Morant is serving his second suspension by the league as the result of being filmed on social media displaying a gun.

Saniya Rivers goes for a career-best 33 points as NC State stuns No. 2 UConn 92-81

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Saniya Rivers had a career-best 33 points to go with 10 rebounds and five assists to help North Carolina State stun second-ranked Connecticut 92-81 on Sunday, earning the program's first win against the Huskies in more than a quarter-century. Aziaha James added 18 points for the Wolfpack. N.C. State ran off an 11-0 burst early in the fourth quarter to stretch out a double-digit margin in what had otherwise been a tense tussle. Preseason Associated Press All-American Paige Bueckers scored 27 points for UConn, while Aaliyah Edwards added 21.

Djokovic secures year-end top ranking for a record-extending 8th time by beating Rune at ATP Finals

TURIN, Italy (AP) — Novak Djokovic has secured the year-end top ranking for a record-extending eighth time. Djokovic needed only one match win at the ATP Finals to be sure of keeping the No. 1 spot and the 24-time Grand Slam champion did it in his opener by beating Holger Rune 7-6 (4), 6-7 (1), 6-3. The 36-year-old Djokovic had already moved ahead of previous record holder Pete Sampras two years ago. Sampras finished No. 1 six times. Carlos Alcaraz of Spain took the honors last year. Djokovic has won 19 straight matches since his five-set loss to Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final in July. Jannik Sinner beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-4 in an earlier match.

Astros will promote bench coach Joe Espada to be manager, replacing Dusty Baker, AP source says

HOUSTON (AP) — Joe Espada will be introduced as manager of the Houston Astros on Monday, a person familiar with the hiring told The Associated Press. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the team hadn't announced the decision. The Astros have a news conference scheduled for Monday at noon EST. Espada will take over for Dusty Baker, who retired last month. This will be the first managerial position for the 48-year-old Espada, who has been Houston's bench coach since 2018.

HOUSTON (AP) — Police say six people including former NFL player D.J. Hayden have died in a two-vehicle crash in downtown Houston. A Chrysler 300 sped through a red light early Saturday and collided with an SUV. Four people died at the scene, and two more died after being taken to the hospital. The driver of the Chrysler was among the dead, as was a man who police say was apparently homeless. Hayden was 33. He was born in Houston and starred at the University of Houston. He was a first-round draft pick in 2013 and played in eight seasons for the Oakland Raiders, Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars.

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;Devin Neal rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown and the Kansas defense held Texas Tech to 16 points, but it was not enough as the Texas Tech Red Raiders defeated the No. 19 Kansas Jayhawks 16-13 in front of a sold-out crowd inside David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Kansas trailed 13-0 entering the fourth quarter and came back to tie it up at 13-13 with 0:26 remaining in the game. However, Texas Tech drove 63 yards in four plays to set up Gino Garcia for a game-winning 30-yard field goal.

Neal has now tallied 2,762 yards in his career, which passes John Riggins, Gale Sayers and Clark Green for fifth on the all-time list. Neal finished with 137 yards and a touchdown to mark his fourth 100-yard game of the season and the 10th of his career.

Kansas took the ball first but struggled to get anything going on its first two drives, going 3-and-out to start the game. Texas Tech took advantage of the slow KU start and jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter.

Kansas found momentum in the second quarter but was unable to reach the endzone in the first half, as Texas Tech stopped Kansas on a 4th-and-goal with 3:05 remaining in the half. Texas Tech would take the 10-0 lead into halftime.

Texas Tech would extend its lead to 13-0 with 2:58 remaining in the third quarter on a 31-yard field goal by Gino Garcia.

Following a missed Texas Tech field goal, Kansas found its first touchdown when running back Devin Neal broke off a 60-yard rush for a touchdown, marking his 27th career rushing touchdown. Texas Tech held the lead, 13-7 with 12:12 remaining in the game.

After forcing a Texas Tech punt on the next possession, Kansas got the ball at its own 23-yard line. The Jayhawks drove 71 yards over 11 plays but were forced to kick a field goal from the Texas Tech 6-yard line. The field goal cut the deficit to 13-10 with 4:42 left in the contest.

Kansas made Texas Tech punt again to give the Jayhawks a chance to tie or take the lead. After a touchback, KU marched 77 yards in 14 plays to get the ball down to the Texas Tech 3-yard line. Kansas was unable to convert the opportunity into a touchdown and kicked a field goal to tie the game at 13-13.

Three quick completions got Texas Tech down to the Kansas 12-yard line to setup Garcia for the game-winning field goal.

The Jayhawks host its final home game of the season against Kansas State for the Dillons Sunflower Showdown on Saturday, Nov. 18. The Jayhawks will then close out the season on Saturday, Nov. 25 in a road contest at Cincinnati.

🏈 Late FG lifts Texas Tech past No. 19 Kansas

GREAT BEND, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, falling to Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa, 89-86.

The Blue Dragons erased a 21-point deficit in the second half to tie the game up with just over five minutes remaining, but could never grab the lead. Hutchinson held just one lead in the game, that coming 24 seconds into the first half.

Hutchinson (4-1) trailed 43-25 at halftime after the Mavericks dominated the opening 20 minutes, shooting 56 percent from the floor, while the Blue Dragons shot just 29 percent, including 1-of-17 from behind the arc.

The Blue Dragons outscored the Mavericks in the second half, 61-46.

Kamryn Thomas and Dallas Whitney each poured in career-high 21-point performances in the loss. Valentino Simon added 14 and JP Ricks nine.&nbsp;

Tonkawa was led by Javontae Campbell with a game-high 26 points, he was one of four Mavericks in double figures.&nbsp;

The Blue Dragons open Jayhawk Conference play on Saturday in Dodge City with tipoff set for 3 p.m. from the Student Activity Center.

🏀 MBB: Blue Dragons' comeback bid falls short 

GREAT BEND, Kan.&nbsp;— The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team kept its unbeaten season alive following an 83-65 win over Redlands Community College on Saturday afternoon.

Hutchinson (5-0) finished the Barton Classic with back-to-back wins over Labette (106-33) on Friday and Redlands on Saturday.

Topeka native Kiki Smith finished the game with a career-high 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting. Smith also knocked down 6-of-7 free throws and dished off a team-high four assists.

Journey Armstead (12 pts, 4 reb), Hailey Jackson (12 pts, 7 reb) and Monae Duffy (11 pts, 7 reb) all finished in double-figures for the Blue Dragons, joining Smith.

The Blue Dragons trailed by as many as five in the first quarter, but rallied to lead after the opening frame, 21-20. Hutchinson then led 43-35 at halftime and then 60-49 after three quarters.

Redlands was led by Ashlyn Evans-Thompson with 19 points, one of four Cougars to score in double figures.

Hutchinson will open Jayhawk Conference play on Saturday at Dodge City with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m.

🏀 WBB: Smith leads Blue Dragons to fifth straight win

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–&nbsp;No. 25 Kansas State knew it needed to rebound after a narrow loss at Texas last weekend. The Wildcats did so emphatically with a 59-25 stomping of Baylor that kept them in the hunt to defend their Big 12 Championship.

On a record-setting day for quarterback Will Howard, the Wildcats amassed at least 50 points for the first time in three years while reaching their biggest scoring total in series history against a Bears squad that suffered their worst loss of the season.&nbsp;

K-State, which improved to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in the Big 12, is 6-0 at Bill Snyder Family Stadium for the first time since 2012. The Bears dropped to 3-7 and 2-5.&nbsp;

“A great performance by our guys today,” K-State head coach Chris Klieman said. “Phenomenal performance under a difficult situation and circumstance as far as having a heart-wrenching loss last week, and to hear the outside noise of what you have to play for. We met with the guys on Monday and talked about we have a lot to play for. We have an opportunity to play for each other and to play in The Bill and to do something pretty special in finishing the story of the 2023 season.&nbsp;

“Our guys came to play today. I don’t know if anybody was worried or questioned — our guys came to play.”

K-State is in the thick of things in the league race with games at No. 16 Kansas and against Iowa State left to go in the regular season.&nbsp;

“The manner with which we’ve won at home just doesn’t happen typically,” Klieman said. “I did see that Texas Tech won (16-13 at Kansas). They’re a good football team, and Kansas is a good football team. I saw the score of Oklahoma State-UCF (a 45-3 win by UCF) and everybody saw UCF, and they’re a really talented team. I don’t know how the race will shake out. We just have to keep playing. That’s all we can do because this is a really good league.&nbsp;

“It’s got parity, it’s deep, and if you don’t play your best football, you’re going to get beat.”

K-State jumped out to a 35-7 lead and kept going. It has outscored its opponents 272-72 in Manhattan this season. The Wildcats played in front of a crowd of 51,790, which marked the 13th consecutive sellout at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.&nbsp;

“I’m telling&nbsp; you, the environment and crowd, we feed off that energy so well,” Howard said. “It gives us so much confidence.”

Howard threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns, setting the all-time record for passing touchdowns in the second quarter with his third scoring toss of the game. The two-yard scoring strike to Christian Moore with 13 minutes, 7 seconds left until halftime, gave Howard 45 career touchdown passes, passing Josh Freeman for the all-time mark.&nbsp;

“It’s an unbelievable honor,” Howard said. “I couldn’t do it without all those guys in that locker room who’ve caught passes from me and have blocked from me, the defense, all my team. I wouldn’t be able to do this without all my guys. I’m blessed and grateful. It still hasn’t fully sunk in yet.”

Howard has thrown 12 touchdowns and one interception in the last four games. He went 19-of-29 passing and connected with nine different pass catchers.&nbsp;

“The kid has battled through, and he’s playing at such a high level right now,” Klieman said. “Excited for him as he’s having a great season.”&nbsp;

Six different players scored a total of six offensive touchdowns for the Wildcats, who also had two defensive touchdowns — a 15-yard fumble recovery by linebacker Desmond Purnell and a 45-yard interception return by Keenan Garber — while also forcing four turnover on downs.&nbsp;

“We had four stops on fourth down,” Klieman said. “This is a part of what you have to do when you play Baylor. You have to play four downs.”

The Wildcats led 35-13 at halftime. By that time, Howard already fired his third touchdown. He went to the bench in the fourth quarter and received a rousing ovation by fans as his record achievement was announced inside the stadium. Freshman Avery Johnson helped score the final points for the Wildcats when he found Garrett Oakley with a 28-yard touchdown pass to put the Wildcats ahead at 59-19 with under 4 minutes to play.

“We’re rolling,” Howard said. “We feel really good. We still have a lot of good football ahead of us. I feel really good about it and we’re excited.”

DJ Giddens, who caught a short pass and turned it into a 31-yard touchdown to begin the game, rushed 18 times for 115 yards while Treshaun Ward had 44 yards and one score on 10 carries.&nbsp;

Tight end Ben Sinnott had three catches for 68 yards and one touchdown, and Oakley had three catches for 46 and a touchdown as well. Phillip Brooks led with five catches for 41 yards and was particularly pivotal on the first couple scoring drives for the Wildcats, who turned a 7-7 tie into a blowout by scoring the next 28 points, capped by Howard’s record-setting touchdown pass.&nbsp;

“We expected to bounce back, to be honest, just with our prep and how we fought at the end of the Texas game last week,” Brooks said. “I knew there wasn’t going to be a falloff, and we played well. We expected this. I’m glad we executed and got the W.”

The Wildcats were firing on all cylinders when their defense sprang into action. Defensive end Cody Stufflebean sacked Baylor quarterback Blake Shapen, forced a fumble, and Purnell scooped up the ball and sprinted 15 yards untouched into the end zone for a 21-7 advantage. Later, Garber intercepted a pass and returned it 45 yards for a score, giving the Wildcats a 52-19 lead.&nbsp;

“Coach Klanderman called a great blitz and luckily they slid away from me, and I just got free and got home,” Stufflebean said.&nbsp;

Added Purnell: “It’s always great trying to find the end zone. I was shocked that I made it in there.”

K-State outgained Baylor 451-332. The Bears’ best offensive possession came at the end of the game — a 10-play, 77-yard charge in which Shapen completed a 6-yard pass to Monaray Baldwin with 20 seconds left.&nbsp;

The K-State marching band played, “Happy Trails to You.” Fans applauded as the Wildcats headed to the locker room.&nbsp;

Now K-State embarks on its next test: Kansas.&nbsp;

“We have to look ahead to attacking tomorrow and Monday, and we’ve done a great job of taking things day by day,” offensive lineman KT Leveston said. “Like Coach Klieman says, ‘Win the dang day.’”
