DALLAS (AP) — The former girlfriend of Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice alleges in a lawsuit filed this week that he physically assaulted her multiple times over a year-and-a-half, causing injuries that included bleeding and bruising.

The lawsuit filed Monday in Dallas County by Dacoda Jones comes after she made domestic violence allegations in a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-rashee-rice-allegations-0ee3ecbd6dbf764cba9b6c47fc623e96">series of social media posts</a>&nbsp;last month. She is seeking more than $1 million in the lawsuit, which says the assaults happened at their homes in Dallas and suburban Kansas City.

In the lawsuit, Jones accuses Rice of strangling her in December 2023 after an “escalation in violent behavior” and that he continued to assault her over the course of their relationship, through July 2025. Jones’ attorney did not immediately respond to a question from The Associated Press on whether police had ever been called related to these incidents.

The lawsuit said Rice has “grabbed, choked, strangled, pushed, thrown, scratched, hit, and headbutted” Jones, in addition to hitting her with objects. The lawsuit said Rice has also thrown objects, punched walls and broken furniture, and that many of these incidents happened when Jones, who has two children with Rice, was pregnant.

Her injuries have included “bleeding, swelling, bruising and other pain and physical injury,” according to the lawsuit.

Agents listed for Rice did not immediately return calls from The Associated Press on Wednesday. An attorney for Rice also did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday.

The Chiefs said they were aware of the lawsuit and remain in communication with the NFL. The NFL said the matter remains under review.

Rice finished with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as Kansas City went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.

HAYSVILLE, Kan. (AP) — The Hutchinson Salthawks earned a split in AVCTL action Tuesday night at Campus High School, as the girls held off a late rally for a 51-47 win while the boys fell 47-36 in the nightcap.

The victory keeps the Hutchinson girls trending upward, while the boys absorbed their 13th loss of the season.

Hutchinson built an early cushion and then held off a fourth-quarter surge from Campus to secure a 51-47 road victory.

Freshman Danai Morgan led the Salthawks with 26 points, including 17 in the first half as Hutchinson established control early. Ava Krone and Clara Ontjes each added eight points to provide balance.

Campus junior Emerleigh Cooper paced the Lady Colts with 19 points.

Hutchinson carried momentum into the second half but had to fend off a late Campus rally before closing out the four-point win.

The Salthawks now turn their attention to Friday’s trip to Newton for their final regular-season road game.

In the nightcap, Campus used a swarming defensive effort to defeat Hutchinson 47-36.

The Salthawks trimmed the deficit to threelate ih the second quarter, but the Colts responded with a 7-0 run to close the half and take a 26-16 lead into the break.

Hutchinson played Campus nearly even over the final two quarters but could not overcome the double-digit halftime deficit.

Junior Lamar Govain led the Salthawks with 19 points, while Larry Jeremiah Jr. added four. Campus was led by T. Moore and M. Caldwell with 10 points each.

Hutchinson (6-13) travels to Newton on Friday before returning home for two games next week to close out the regular season.

K-State (11-15, 2-11 Big 12) never trailed and held a double-digit lead for most of the second half to end a six-game skid. Driscoll replaced previous head coach Jerome Tang, who was fired Sunday night after four season at the helm.

Johnson’s layup gave the Wildcats a 21-point lead with 10:39 remaining. He surpassed his previous career-best 31 points with a dunk with 1:37 remaining.

Haggerty shot 15 of 23 overall. Johnson was 11-of-16 shooting and made five of the Wildcats' eight 3-pointers. Johnson also had nine assists and matched a career-high with six steals.

Isaac Williams IV scored 16 points to lead Baylor (13-13, 3-10), which has lost four straight. Tounde Yessoufou added 14 point for the Bears. Cameron Carr chipped in with 12 points and Dan Skillings Jr. scored 11. The Bears made just three of their 24 3-point attempts.

The Kansas Basketball Coaches Association released its final boys and girls basketball rankings of the 2025-26 season Tuesday, with several Hutch Post area teams finishing the regular season in the top 10 of their respective classifications.

Sterling closed the regular season ranked No. 1 in Class 2A boys, while Little River topped Class 1A Division I. Hesston finished No. 2 in Class 3A and Pratt checked in at No. 3 in Class 4A. On the girls side, Little River earned the No. 1 ranking in Class 1A Division I, Hutchinson Central Christian finished No. 1 in Class 1A Division II and Halstead at No. 2 in Class 3A. Moundridge also remained ranked in both the boys and girls 2A polls.

Rankings are voted on by KBCA member coaches and the Feb. 17 release marks the final poll of the season.

🏀 KBCA releases final basketball rankings of regular season

LYONS, Kan. — Lyons High School announced Tuesday that Wyatt Seidl has been named the next head football coach of the Lions, tasked with revitalizing a program that has struggled in recent years.

A McPherson native, Seidl played high school football for the Bullpups before continuing his career at Fort Hays State University. Following his senior season at McPherson High School, Seidl was selected to participate in the Kansas Shrine Bowl.

Seidl most recently served as defensive coordinator at Liberal High School. In addition to his football duties, he coached the school’s powerlifting team, mentoring a national champion.

Seidl replaces Carl Nolan, who was relieved of his duties in January.

Lyons has posted records of 1-8 in 2025, 2-7 in 2024, 1-8 in 2023 and 0-9 in 2022. The Lions have not had a winning season since finishing 5-4 in 2013.

🏈 Lyons names Wyatt Seidl as head football coach

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas forward Jaliya Davis has been named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the seventh-straight week, setting a new conference record for consecutive honors. The Big 12 announced its weekly awards Tuesday afternoon.

Davis averaged 19.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while helping Kansas to a 1-1 record last week, highlighted by an 85-68 victory over Houston on Saturday at Allen Fieldhouse.

She scored 14 points with four rebounds at No. 16 Texas Tech on Wednesday before pouring in 25 points and grabbing five rebounds against Houston. Davis shot 53.6 percent (15-28) from the field and 81.8 percent (9-11) from the free-throw line over the two games.

Davis is now the only player in conference history to win Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors in seven consecutive weeks. She also becomes just the third Power Conference player since at least the 2007-08 season with a streak of seven or more freshman of the week honors, joining:

• Taniya Latson (Florida State) – 8 straight (2022-23)
• Aneesah Morrow (DePaul) – 7 straight (2021-22)

With seven total Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors, Davis is tied for fourth-most in conference history behind:

A McDonald's All-American from Overland Park, Kansas, Davis has scored 20 or more points in 12 games this season, tied for the sixth-most by a Big 12 freshman in conference history.

She is averaging 21.6 points per game, which ranks second all-time among Big 12 freshmen. In league play, she has increased that mark to 22.4 points per game, second in the conference, while leading the league in field-goal percentage at 63.4 percent (116-183) in conference games.

Davis has scored at least 10 points in all 17 games she has played and ranks second on the team with 6.1 rebounds per game.

As Big 12 Freshman of the Week, Davis was also named to the Big 12 Women's Basketball Starting Five, selected by a media panel. In addition to seven Freshman of the Week honors, she earned a Starting Five nod on Nov. 10.

Kansas (16-11, 6-9 Big 12) returns from its bye week Saturday, Feb. 21, traveling to Bramlage Coliseum for the Dillons Sunflower Showdown against Kansas State. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

The Jayhawks then host No. 20 Texas Tech for Senior Night on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Allen Fieldhouse. The Big 12 announced its weekly awards Tuesday afternoon.</p><p>Davis averaged 19.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while helping Kansas to a 1-1 record last week, highlighted by an 85-68 victory over Houston on Saturday at Allen Fieldhouse.</p><p>She scored 14 points with four rebounds at No. 16 Texas Tech on Wednesday before pouring in 25 points and grabbing five rebounds against Houston. Davis shot 53.6 percent (15-28) from the field and 81.8 percent (9-11) from the free-throw line over the two games.</p><p>Davis is now the only player in conference history to win Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors in seven consecutive weeks. In league play, she has increased that mark to 22.4 points per game, second in the conference, while leading the league in field-goal percentage at 63.4 percent (116-183) in conference games.</p><p>Davis has scored at least 10 points in all 17 games she has played and ranks second on the team with 6.1 rebounds per game.</p><p>As Big 12 Freshman of the Week, Davis was also named to the Big 12 Women's Basketball Starting Five, selected by a media panel. Kansas State has parted ways with men’s basketball coach Jerome Tang, according to multiple reports Sunday, ending a four-season tenure highlighted by an Elite Eight run but followed by a sharp downturn.

Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman first reported the move, saying Tang has an $18 million buyout and that the sides were in discussions on terms. The decision came a day after the Wildcats’ loss to Houston, which dropped Kansas State to 10–15 overall and 1–11 in Big 12 play.

The Kansas State University program slid to the bottom of the conference standings during Tang’s fourth season and never recovered after conference play began.

Tang finishes his time in Manhattan with a 71–54 record, though some reports list the mark as 71–57. He was hired in March 2022 after a long stint as an assistant at Baylor and delivered an immediate jolt to the program.

In his debut season, Tang led the Wildcats to a 26–10 record and an unexpected run to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, falling to Florida Atlantic. The turnaround earned Tang national acclaim, including Naismith National Coach of the Year and Big 12 Coach of the Year honors, behind the play of Markquis Nowell and Keyontae Johnson.

Kansas State went 19–15 the following season and reached the NIT, then finished 16–17 last year for the program’s first losing record under Tang. This season’s struggles intensified amid defensive issues, with the Wildcats scoring 80.2 points per game while allowing 80.7.

Tension peaked after a lopsided home loss to Cincinnati, when Tang called the performance “embarrassing” and said several players did not deserve to wear the uniform. Students wore paper bags over their heads during that game, and Tang said afterward that practice would begin at 6 a.m. the next day.

The Manhattan Mercury reported that Kansas State dismissed Tang for cause related to those comments, which would negate the buyout. Tang could challenge that determination.

Noelle Anthon scored a career-high 23 points, Katie Duncan added another 23 and KaMyra Barber notched 20 as Hutchinson never trailed in the contest.

Barber just missed a triple-double with 20 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists.

The trio scored 66 points to Cloud County's 62 overall.

The Dragons went on an 11-0 run in the first quarter on their way to a 16-point halftime lead.

Sharp scored 14 points on 4 of 10 shooting in the first half as Houston (23-2, 11-1 Big 12) built a 33-19 halftime lead.

Milos Uzan added 12 points and eight assists, and Kingston Flemings finished with 12 points and seven rebounds for the Cougars, which won their 18th straight at home.

P.J. Haggerty scored 23 points to lead Kansas State (10-15, 1-11). Haggerty surpassed 2,000 points in his collegiate career in the first half, becoming the fifth current Division I player to achieve the milestone.

Nate Johnson had 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Taj Manning added 10 points for Kansas State. The Wildcats shot 35% from the field, 8 of 26 (31%) from 3-point range, and made 16 of 25 (64%) from the free-throw line.

🏀 Sharp scores 23 as Houston downs Kansas State 

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Milan Momcilovic scored 18 points and No. 5 Iowa State shook off a slow start to defeat No. 9 Kansas 74-56 on Saturday, snapping the Jayhawks’ eight-game winning streak.

The Cyclones (22-3, 9-3 Big 12), coming off Tuesday’s 62-55 loss at TCU, began a five-game stretch in which they play four ranked teams by taking control of this game in the first half despite struggling to make shots in the opening minutes.

Iowa State led 37-27 at halftime, then went on a 20-7 run in the opening 5 1/2 minutes of the second half, a stretch in which the Cyclones made six consecutive 3-pointers.

Their defense held Kansas (19-6, 9-3) to 31.6% shooting from the field in the second half, including 1 of 8 in 3-pointers. The Jayhawks shot 37.3% for the game while committing 13 turnovers, 10 in the first half.

Tamin Lipsey, Joshua Jefferson, Blake Buchanan and Jamarion Bateman each had 11 points for Iowa State.

Melvin Council Jr. led the Jayhawks with 15 points. Flory Bidunga had 11.

Kansas freshman Darryn Peterson started after missing&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/arizona-kansas-t25-score-f9889466ae45491d08e069cb241100f3">Monday’s 82-78 win over top-ranked Arizona</a>. He had 10 points in 24 minutes.

Kansas’ winning streak started with an 84-63 victory over Iowa State on Jan. 13 and included wins over BYU, Texas Tech and Arizona.

The Cyclones made just one of their first 10 shots to open the game but because of their defense were down only 6-2 in that stretch. Once the offense got going, Iowa State went on a 20-2 run over a span of five minutes later in the first half to take a 36-22 lead with 1:37 to play.

Saturday’s game was the seventh top-10 game in the series between the Cyclones and Jayhawks, with the teams splitting the previous six.

Kansas: Visits Oklahoma State on Wednesday.

                    </figure><p>AMES, Iowa (AP) — Milan Momcilovic scored 18 points and No. 5 Iowa State shook off a slow start to defeat No. 9 Kansas 74-56 on Saturday, snapping the Jayhawks’ eight-game winning streak.</p><p>The Cyclones (22-3, 9-3 Big 12), coming off Tuesday’s 62-55 loss at TCU, began a five-game stretch in which they play four ranked teams by taking control of this game in the first half despite struggling to make shots in the opening minutes.</p><p>Iowa State led 37-27 at halftime, then went on a 20-7 run in the opening 5 1/2 minutes of the second half, a stretch in which the Cyclones made six consecutive 3-pointers.</p><p>Their defense held Kansas (19-6, 9-3) to 31.6% shooting from the field in the second half, including 1 of 8 in 3-pointers. The Jayhawks shot 37.3% for the game while committing 13 turnovers, 10 in the first half.</p><p>Tamin Lipsey, Joshua Jefferson, Blake Buchanan and Jamarion Bateman each had 11 points for Iowa State.</p><p>Melvin Council Jr. led the Jayhawks with 15 points. Flory Bidunga had 11.</p><p>Kansas freshman Darryn Peterson started after missing&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/arizona-kansas-t25-score-f9889466ae45491d08e069cb241100f3">Monday’s 82-78 win over top-ranked Arizona</a>. He had 10 points in 24 minutes.</p><p>Kansas’ winning streak started with an 84-63 victory over Iowa State on Jan. 13 and included wins over BYU, Texas Tech and Arizona.</p><p>The Cyclones made just one of their first 10 shots to open the game but because of their defense were down only 6-2 in that stretch. HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Derby spoiled Hutchinson High’s Homecoming festivities Friday night at the Salthawk Activity Center, sweeping the Salthawks in convincing fashion.

The Lady Panthers pulled away late for a 59-39 victory, and the Derby boys followed with an 82-51 win to complete a season sweep in both matchups.

Derby jumped out to a quick nine-point lead and never trailed, defeating Hutchinson 59-39.

The Lady Panthers led 27-17 at halftime after building an early cushion and remained in control in the third quarter, extending the advantage to 45-32 heading into the fourth. Derby put the game out of reach with another decisive run in the final period, finishing off the 20-point win and completing the season sweep of the Salthawks.

Freshman Danai Morgan continued her strong play for Hutchinson, scoring 22 of the team’s 39 points. Alvarez and Ava Krone each added five points, while Ontjes and Keeton chipped in four and three, respectively.

Derby was led by Aysia Fox with 19 points. Dinsmore added 12, Demel 10, Askew seven, Carter six, Watie three and Van Meter two.

Hutchinson(9-9) travels to Haysville-Campus (5-14) on Tuesday, while Derby heads to Maize.

Boys: Derby's Riley sets record in Panthers’ rout

In the nightcap, Derby’s Avant Riley put on a shooting display for the Derby record books.

Riley knocked down nine three-pointers to set a Derby school record, finishing with 31 points as the Panthers rolled to an 82-51 victory. Derby connected on 15 three-pointers overall in its third 80-plus-point outing since Jan. 30.

The teams were meeting for the third time in 21 days, following a McPherson Invitational Tournament semifinal on Jan. 23 and a regular-season contest Jan. 27. Derby claimed all three meetings.

The Panthers led 18-12 after the first quarter before taking control in the second. A 7-2 run ignited a 27-point quarter, and Derby carried a commanding 45-21 lead into halftime.

Riley stayed hot after the break, hitting six threes in the second half to break the program record. Derby added 23 points in the third quarter and continued to stretch the margin, including nine team three-pointers after halftime.

Greg Stiger added 19 points for Derby, and five Panthers connected from beyond the arc.

Lamar Govain led Hutchinson with 20 points, but the Salthawks struggled to slow Derby’s perimeter attack.

Hutchinson (6-12) travels to Haysville-Campus on Tuesday to face the Colts, while Derby (15-5) continues league play at Maize.

Thomas tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout as the Blue Dragons defeated Northeast 8-0 in five innings in Game 1. Ediger and Rogers combined to twirl a three-hit shutout in a 9-0, five-inning victory in Game 2.

The Blue Dragons (6-0) and Hawks (0-2) will complete their four-game series beginning at 2 p.m. Friday with a doubleheader at Fun Valley. Both games can be viewed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network.

GAME 1 – Hutchinson 8, Northeast 0 (5 Inn.)

Thomas (2-0) earned her second-straight win to start the season and the 15th pitching victory of her career with her third career shutout and seventh career complete game.

Against Northeast, Thomas struck out five and walked none while allowing only three hits and just three baserunners. Thomas allowed a two-out first inning single and two singles in the fifth inning. Thomas needed only 68 pitches to complete those five innings.

Offensively, the Blue Dragons racked up 10 hits, reaching double figures in hits for the second time this season.

The Blue Dragons finished off the game with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Dreher doubled in pinch-runner&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2025-26/bios/segura_desiray_bsh4">Desiray Segura</a>. Dreher scored on Goetz's RBI single to make it 6-0. The game ended with a bases-loaded hit by pitch to Kruger and a bases-loaded walk to Lutz.

GAME 2 – Hutchinson 9, Northeast 0 (5 Inn.)

The Blue Dragons were once again in control in the pitching circle in Game 2.

Ediger (2-0) allowed only two hits with one strikeout in three innings of work. She gave up a double in the second and a single in the third.

Rogers closed out the game with two innings of work. She allowed three walks and one hit, but didn't surrender a run.

The Blue Dragons had nine hits in Game 2. Dreher had a second multi-hit game on Thursday, going 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs. The Wildcats dropped to 10-14&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kstate-cincinnati-score-0f4cc6eb02d42386102a258dd59e5cd8">with the 91-62 loss</a>, including 1-10 in the Big 12 Conference.

“This was embarrassing,” Tang said. “These dudes do not deserve to wear this uniform. There will be very few of them in it next year. I’m embarrassed for the university, I’m embarrassed for our fans, our student section. It is just ridiculous. We’ve got practice at 6 a.m. tomorrow morning, and we will get this thing right. I have no answer and no words.”

He then said he would take only two questions from the media, adding, “Right now, I’m like pissed.”

Kansas State went 26-10 in Tang’s first season and came a three-point loss to Florida Atlantic&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/march-madness-florida-atlantic-kansas-state-84469e5033ceebe3bc557611c6b1aeea">from making the 2023 Final Four</a>. His record since then is 45-46.

The Wildcats have lost three home games in a row by at least 20 points, a big reason fans showed up with paper bags on their heads.

SURPRISE, Ariz.—The Kansas City Royals today announced they have acquired right-handed pitcher&nbsp;Mitch Spence&nbsp;from the Athletics for right-handed pitcher&nbsp;A.J. Causey, who was in camp as a non-roster invite. Spence was designated for assignment by the A’s on Tuesday.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Spence, the Royals placed right-handed pitcher&nbsp;Alec Marsh&nbsp;on the 60-day Injured List.

Spence, 27, pitched the last two seasons with the Athletics. Prior to the 2024 season, he was selected 1st overall from the Yankees in the Rule 5 Draft and spent his entire Major League debut season on the A’s roster, making 35 appearances (24 starts). He made his 1st 11 appearances in relief, before moving to the starting rotation in May.

In 2025 with the Athletics, Spence made 32 appearances (8 starts). He made his 1st 22 appearances in relief, during which he posted a 4.38 ERA (19 ER in 39.0 IP). He moved into the starting rotation on June 5 and made 7 starts before being optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas. He remained there until returning to the big league team on Sept. 10.

In 236.0 innings over two big league seasons, Spence has issued just 70 walks (2.7 BB/9). He was originally selected by the Yankees in the 10th round of the 2019 Draft.

Causey made 9 appearances for Surprise in the 2025 Arizona Fall League and had a 7.45 ERA (8 ER in 9.2 IP).
