WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Dillon Battie’s 22 points helped Wichita State defeat Florida Atlantic 88-70 in a regular-season finale on Saturday.

Battie added 12 rebounds for the Shockers (21-10, 13-5 American Athletic Conference). Kenyon Giles added 17 points while going 6 of 16 (3 for 8 from 3-point range) and had four steals. Emmanuel Okorafor finished 8 of 11 from the floor to finish with 16 points. It was the sixth win in a row for the Shockers.

Kanaan Carlyle finished with 26 points and two steals for the Owls (17-14, 9-9). Niccolo Moretti added 10 points, six rebounds and six assists for Florida Atlantic. Amar Amkou finished with nine points and two steals.

Wichita State carried a slim two-point lead into halftime, as Battie led the way with 13 points. Wichita State took the lead for what would be the final time on Karon Boyd’s layup with 11:30 left in the second half. His team would outscore Florida Atlantic by 16 points in the final half.

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — Cowley (19-12) beat the odds and topped Hutchinson (14-17) for the third time this season.

The Dragons built an eight-point lead with 3:28 to play in the first half before the Tigers crawled back within four at the break.

The teams went back and forth in a game that featured five ties and eight lead changes.

Cowley went up 51-50 with 6:06 to play when Xavier Vickerstaff hit his sixth triple of the contest.

Vickerstaff scored 17 of his game-high 20 points in the second frame.

Daleron Thomas led Hutchinson with 19 and scored 13 of those in the first half.

Hutchinson answered with a pair of and-ones from Chudier Dorar and Asher Boney. Dorar completed his three-point play while Boney missed the free-throw opportunity.

Cowley got an and-one from Marcus Smith with 2:49 left to go up one. He missed from the line.

Thomas put Hutchinson up 60-57 with his and-one with 1:33 to go. He also missed from the charity stripe.

C.J. Majors answered with a layup to pull the Tigers within one.

Smith got another bucket with 20 seconds left to put Cowley up a point.

With 13 seconds left, Hutchinson took a timeout to draw up a final play.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Freshman star Darryn Peterson scored 27 points in his likely Allen Fieldhouse finale, Tre White and Melvin Council Jr. had memorable senior send-offs of their own, and No. 14 Kansas routed Kansas State 104-85 on Saturday.

Peterson, the potential No. 1 pick in this year's NBA draft, was an efficient 10 of 15 from the field for the Jayhawks (22-9, 12-6 Big 12), who clinched a double-bye in next week's conference tournament by winning on Senior Day for the 43rd consecutive year.

White, a transfer from Illinois, had 23 points and 11 rebounds to cap his lone regular season in Lawrence, while Council — who arrived from St. Bonaventure — nearly had a triple-double with 17 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists in his final game at the Phog.

The win was a much-needed confidence boost heading into the postseason for the Jayhawks, who had dropped four of their previous six games, and it extended their home win streak over their in-state rivals to 20 in a row.

P.J. Haggerty, who missed last week's win over West Virginia with an undisclosed injury, scored 21 points to lead the Wildcats (12-19, 3-15). Nate Johnson also had 21 points, while Khamari McGriff finished with 15.

The game was close only until midway through the first half, when Kansas ran off nine straight points to take control. It pushed the advantage to 46-33 by halftime, and the lead swelled to nearly 20 in the opening minutes of the second half.

Kansas State got within 11 on a couple of occasions, but Peterson and his senior teammates eventually poured it on.

The clinching blow came with about 12 minutes to go, when C.J. Jones fouled Peterson and then was whistled for a technical foul. The ensuing free throws were part of big run by Kansas that pushed the lead to 78-54 with under 10 minutes left in the game.

Kansas State will be the No. 15 seed for the Big 12 Tournament and play a first-round game on Tuesday. The Jayhawks will learn their seeding later Saturday and will open play in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

🏀 Peterson scores 27 as KU routs K-State on Senior Day

TOPEKA &ndash; Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wtrack/2025-26/bios/beale_xylavene_h8ad">Xylavene Beale</a>&nbsp;had some tense moments in the preliminary round of the women's shot put on Day 1 of the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday at the Sneed Indoor Athletic Facility on the campus of Washburn University.
Beale did qualify for the finals and rode that momentum all the way to an individual national championship to lead the Hutchinson Community College women's track and field team to second place after Day 1 of the two-day event after 6 of 20 events were scored.
The Blue Dragons produced points in three events, scoring 29 points to sit in second place after Day 1. Iowa Western leads the women's team race with 30 points. Saturday's competition opens at 10:30 a.m.
Beale fouled on her first two preliminary attempts on Friday, leaving her with one more opportunity to advance to the finals. The Blue Dragon freshman did qualify for the finals with a school-record 52 feet, 3.75 inches (15.94 meters), which was the top preliminary round attempt.
Beale then survived three round of finals &ndash; her best attempt in the finals was 50-6.75 (15.41 meters) &ndash; to claim the first Blue Dragon indoor national championship since 2023. She won the event 1.75 feet over Natassia Burrell of Cloud County.
Beale established a new Blue Dragon shot put record for the fourth time this season.
She is the first Blue Dragon NJCAA Indoor national champion since 2023 when Hutchinson won the 4x800-meter relay. She is the first individual indoor national champion since 2018 since Adriana Yanic won the 60-meter hurdles and Pentathlon in 2018.
Beale is the second Blue Dragon to win a national shot put title in team history. Esther Ikomi was the first, winning the shot put in 1998.
Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wtrack/2025-26/bios/rono_mildred_l7lu">Mildred Rono</a>&nbsp;helped the Blue Dragons score 14 points on Friday.
Rono was the national runner-up in the 5,000 meters. Rono ran a time of 16 minutes, 48.75 seconds, which broke the meet record. Iowa Western's Juliana Sakat won the event with a time of 16:42.47.
Rono then ran the anchor leg of the Blue Dragons' Distance Medley Relay, which finished third with a school-record time of 11:54.47. The Blue Dragon relay consisted of&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wtrack/2025-26/bios/frater_ashara_sl3k">Ashara Frater</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wtrack/2025-26/bios/mcdonald_sabrina_ochl">Sabrina McDonald</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wtrack/2025-26/bios/lovell_kimberlin_9yhy">Kimberlin Lovell</a>&nbsp;and Rono.
The Blue Dragons scored 15 points in the shot put on Friday. In addition to Beale's national title, sophomore Deisheline Mayer Scott placed fourth with a personal record attempt of 46-3.5 (14.11 meters). That mark ranks third in Blue Dragon indoor history.
McDonald advanced to Saturday's 600-meter finals after placing eighth in Friday's preliminary round. McDonald ran a time of 1:34.95, which is the best time ever ran by a Blue Dragon in an NJCAA Indoor Championship.
Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wtrack/2025-26/bios/titren_valentine_vnzd">Valentine Titren</a>&nbsp;placed 12th in the NJCAA Pentathlon. Titren scored 2,805 points, which is third most by a Blue Dragon in the NJCAA Indoor championship and third-most in Blue Dragon history. Titren's best performance in the five-event competition was a tie for sixth in the high jump after clearing 4-9.75.

TOPEKA &ndash; Sophomore thrower&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2025-26/bios/sweetnam_joshua_rc2t">Joshua Sweetnam</a>&nbsp;finished third in the men's shot put to lead the Hutchinson Community College men's track and field team on Day 1 of the NJCAA Indoor Championships at the Sneed Indoor Athletic Facility on the campus of Washburn University.
Sweetnam had the top finish of the six event finals contested on Friday. The Blue Dragons are tied for eighth place with Mesa after Day 1 with 13 points. Jayhawk Conference rival Butler leads the men's team standings with 30 points.
Day 2 of the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday in Topeka.

Sweetnam was one of four Blue Dragons to score on Day 1.
Freshman Joshua Muhari tied for fifth in the men's high jump with a personal best clearance of 6-8.25 (7.04 meters). Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2025-26/bios/gill_wesley_6pb8">Wesley Gill</a>&nbsp;is fifth after Day 1 in the men's Heptathlon. The Region 6 champion has 2,180 points after Friday's 60 meters, long jump, shot put and high jump. Gill's best event finish was third place in the 60 meters with a time of 7.06 seconds (861 points). Gill will close out the Heptathlon on Saturday with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000 meters.
The Blue Dragons advance only one athlete to Saturday's finals after Friday's preliminary rounds.

👟 Sweetnam leads Blue Dragon men on Day 1 of NJCAA indoor

The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team plays its 200th all-time Region 6 Tournament game on Saturday.

The milestone game takes place on the road in Arkansas City as the 11th-seeded Blue Dragons (14-16) travel to play the No. 6-seed Cowley Tigers (18-12) in the Region 6 Tournament opening round at Scott Auditorium.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 3:45 p.m. with Sean Boston (PBP) and Daren Dunn (color) calling the action. The game will be streamed live for free on the Cowley Sports Network at 3:45 p.m.

The Blue Dragons play in the opening round of the Region 6 Tournament for the first time since 2023. The Blue Dragons are 42-9 all-time in the opening round of the Region 6 Tournament.

Saturday's meeting will be the 22nd all-time postseason matchup between Hutchinson and Cowley. The Blue Dragons own a 12-9 all-time lead against Cowley in the postseason.

The last postseason meeting came in 2024 in the Region 6 semifinals at the Sports Arena. The Blue Dragons defeated Cowley 89-83. The last time Hutchinson played a Region 6 Tournament game in Arkansas City was 2005. The Tigers defeated the Blue Dragons 84-81 in overtime.

Hutchinson dropped a pair of close games with Cowley this season.

With Cowley ranked No. 12 on December 6, the Blue Dragons were defeated by the Tigers, 65-53. Then on February 7, the Dragons dropped a 63-60 decision to Cowley in Arkansas City.

The Hutchinson-Cowley winner will travel to play No. 3-seed Dodge City on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons enter the postseason winning 3 of their final 4 games. Hutchinson nearly rallied from 16 points down at Fort Hays Tech Northwest on Wednesday in a 75-74 loss to the Tigers.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2025-26/bios/miller_dilen_2zuo">Dilen Miller</a>&nbsp;came off the bench to spark the Blue Dragons with a career-high 25 points. He scored 19 points in the first half, hitting a career-best five 3-pointers. The Blue Dragons hit 11 3-pointers overall.

Cowley, which started the year 10-2 and was ranked as high as No. 8 in the NJCAA Rankings, finished the season 8-10 and has lost two straight games to close the regular season.

Speiser got a friendly bounce on a 3-pointer with 15.5 seconds left to extend Kansas State’s lead to 73-68. Oklahoma State made two free throws to get within three points and the Cowgirls forced a jump ball to regain possession.

Haleigh Timmer made her second 3-pointer in the final minute with 4.5 seconds left to tie it at 73-all. Kansas State quickly inbounded the ball and Heal was fouled near midcourt before making the first free throw and intentionally missing the second.

Kansas State (18-16) became the first No. 12 seed to advance to the semifinals of the women’s Big 12 Tournament.

Nastja Claessens finished with 15 points, Aniya Foy added 11 and Taryn Sides had 10 for Kansas State. Gina Garcia added nine assists to go with five points and Heal scored three points.

SURPRISE, Ariz.—The Kansas City Royals this morning announced 2015 World Series champion&nbsp;Eric Hosmer&nbsp;will join their broadcast team and serve as an analyst on Royals.TV. His 1st game will be next Friday, March 13 during the Royals broadcast vs. the Diamondbacks at 8:05 p.m. CT.

Hosmer is the second addition to the Royals.TV crew for 2026, along with&nbsp;Bridget Howard. ⚾ Eric Hosmer joins Royals.TV broadcast team

The Hutchinson Community College softball team rallied to win Game 1 and held on to win Game 2 over the Butler Grizzlies to do something the program hasn't done in 24 years.

<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2025-26/bios/dreher_riley_mt89">Riley Dreher</a>'s walk-off single in the first game completed a comeback from three runs down after three innings in a 4-3 victory over the Grizzlies in the 2026 Jayhawk Conference opener for both teams on Thursday at Fun Valley. Then the Blue Dragons made a three-run first inning stand up in a 3-2 victory.

The Blue Dragons earned their first doubleheader sweep of the Grizzlies since 2002.

Hutchinson (13-5, 2-0 KJCCC) will play host to Seward County in a Jayhawk Conference doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Fun Valley

The Blue Dragons trailed Butler 3-0 after three innings after giving up single runs in each of those innings.

Hutchinson's comeback began in the fourth inning. Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2025-26/bios/young_kaci_j4yo">Kaci Young</a>&nbsp;hit a leadoff home run, then the Blue Dragons pulled within 3-2 on&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2025-26/bios/stauffer_gabby_odh3">Gabby Stauffer</a>'s two-out RBI double.

The Blue Dragons tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth when pinch hitter&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2025-26/bios/topping_hadley_8nip">Hadley Topping</a>&nbsp;hit a solo home run to left field in the sixth inning.

The home runs hit by both Young and Topping were their first career homers.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, with one out&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2025-26/bios/golly_tailor_5clg">Tailor Golly</a>, Stauffer and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2025-26/bios/o-connor_leyla_2f21">Leyla O'Connor</a>&nbsp;all singled to load the bases before Dreher hit a full-count pitch to left-center to score Golly with the game-winning run – Hutchinson's second walkoff against Butler in as many seasons at Fun Valley.

Young (2-0) entered the pitching circle and worked the final four innings to earn the victory. Young did not allow a hit or a run. She had two walks and three strikeouts. Young took over for&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2025-26/bios/rogers_alyssa_v57x">Alyssa Rogers</a>&nbsp;in the fourth inning. Young pitched the first three-plus innings with six hits and three runs allowed.

Dreher, Stauffer and Golly had two hits each.

Dreher went 2 for 4 with two single and one RBI. Stauffer was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI double. Golly was 2 for 4 with two runs scored. She also threw out two Butler base stealers at second base in the top of the sixth inning.

The momentum from the Game 1 walk-off carried over into the first inning of the second game.

Lyerly threw the first Blue Dragon complete game of the season on Thursday. He pitched a season-high five innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run with two strikeouts and two walks. He also hit two Colby batters.

The Trojans had Lyerly (3-0) on the ropes in the first inning, loading the with one out. Lyerly got out of the jam with a fielder's choice force at home and a strikeout. Colby scored their only run without the benefit of a hit. Lyerly needed only 62 pitches in his complete game.

Hutchinson 6 through 9 hitters did most of the damage in Game 1 combining to go 6 for 9 with seven runs scored, nine RBIs and four extra-base hits – two home runs and two doubles.

Sophomore third baseman&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2025-26/bios/hochstein_finn_8jka">Finn Hochstein</a>&nbsp;led the Blue Dragons' eight-hit attack going 3 for 3 with his fourth home run of the season and three RBIs. Tye Wilson was 1 for 2 with his first career home run. Wilson's two run home run to left put the game into a run rule in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Blue Dragons posted their third shutout of the season in Game 2.

Yeager threw a season-long six innings on Thursday. Yeager (1-0) allowed two hits and one walk while striking out six. Colby loaded the bases with two outs in the third inning, but Yeager got out of the jam unscored upon.

Heskett had three strikeouts in a scoreless seventh inning. Muller had one strikeout in a scoreless eighth inning. Neill worked a scoreless ninth inning.

The Blue Dragons rolled up 10 hits, including three extra-base hits in Game 2.

Mazza extended his hitting streak to 13 games after going 3 of 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Logyn Greer and Desiree Wooten both scored 10 points in No. 6 seed Colorado’s 55-48 win over No. 11 seed Kansas on Thursday night to advance to the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Conference Tournament.

Greer shot 4 for 7 from the field and drained both her attempts from 3-point range from the Buffaloes (21-10). She had six rebounds and four blocks. Wooten added four assists.

Colorado was in foul trouble early, racking up seven fouls in the first quarter. A 9-0 run in the second quarter broke the game open for the Buffaloes and they entered halftime up 26-18. Their defense held Kansas to 36% (19 of 53) from the field and 15% (2 of 13) from 3-point range.

Kansas (19-13) was led in scoring by S’Mya Nichols, who put up 14. Her and Sania Copeland scored the only 3-pointers for the Jayhawks.

Colorado: Will play No. 3 seed Baylor on Friday. The Lady Bears are ranked No. 20 in the country.

McPherson (20-9, 16-6) received an at-large bid and will face fourth-seeded Columbia (Mo.) in the opening round on Friday, March 13 at 5 p.m. in Columbia, Missouri. The game is part of the Cramer Quadrant.

The Bulldogs are making their first appearance in the national tournament since 2013 and the sixth in program history. A win would send McPherson to the second round Saturday, March 14 against the winner between No. 5 Pikeville (Ky.) and No. 12 Faulkner (Ala.), with a trip to the Round of 16 in Kansas City on the line.

Several other KCAC programs also earned bids into the tournament field.

Bethel (21-8, 16-6) will face Loyola (La.) in the Naismith Quadrant first round on March 13 in Henderson (Tenn.), while Friends will host IU Southeast (Ind.) in the Duer Quadrant.

Southwestern will also play in the opening round, in Waxahachie (Texas), matching up with Benedictine Mesa (Ariz.) in the Cramer Quadrant.

Oklahoma Wesleyan earned the KCAC’s automatic berth after winning the conference regular-season title. The Eagles received the No. 1 seed in the Liston Quadrant and will open play against SUNO (La.) on March 13.

🏀 Region 6 brackets set as postseason play begins Saturday

Hutchinson Community College offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Tony Koehling has been named the next head football coach at Garden City Community College.

Garden City introduced Koehling as the program’s 25th head coach during a press conference Thursday morning.

Koehling spent the past three seasons on the Blue Dragon coaching staff after joining Hutchinson in 2023. During his time with the program, Hutchinson produced some of the top offensive numbers in the NJCAA while winning a Jayhawk Conference championship and the 2024 NJCAA national championship, and finishing as national runner-up in 2025.

Prior to Hutchinson, Koehling spent three seasons as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Iowa Western, helping the Reivers reach the NJCAA national championship game in 2021 and win the national title in 2022.

Koehling also previously coached at Emporia State and Ohio University.

A native of Cincinnati, Koehling played offensive line at Thomas More College. He and his wife, Andrea, have one son, Anthony.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Nastja Claessens had 14 points, eight rebounds and a key block in the closing seconds and Kansas State ended the game on a 21-0 run to beat No. 21 Texas Tech on Thursday in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament.

Kansas State (17-16), the No. 12 seed, advances to the quarterfinals against No. 4 seed Oklahoma State on Friday. The Wildcats opened the tournament by breaking an 18-year Big 12 women’s tournament record and tied the school record by sinking 17 3-pointers in a 91-66 victory over Cincinnati.

Kansas State trailed 51-37 with 7:43 left in the fourth quarter after Texas Tech’s 10-0 run spanning the third-quarter break. But the Lady Raiders would not score against, missing 13 straight shots and not attempting a free throw in the fourth.

Tess Heal put Kansas State ahead 54-51 with 52.7 seconds left on a driving layup. Texas Tech grabbed an offensive rebound after a missed 3-pointer, but Claessens blocked the putback attempt and secured the ball before calling a timeout with 36.1 left.

Taryn Sides sealed it by making two free throws and Heal added two free throws with 19.2 seconds left.

Sides finished with 13 points, Aniya Foy added 12 and Heal had 10 for Kansas State, which did not have a double-digit scorer until the fourth quarter. The Wildcats were just 5 of 25 from 3-point range and shot 34% overall.

Snudda Collins was the lone double-digit scorer for the fifth-seeded Texas Tech (25-7) with 14 points. The Lady Raiders were 16 of 56 from the field (29%).

Earlier this year, Texas Tech’s undefeated season came to an end at 19-0 on Jan. 17 after a 65-59 loss to Kansas State.

Kansas State beat Oklahoma State 70-61 in the only regular-season meeting on Feb. 10.

Texas Tech is hoping to make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2013.
