Denton ‘Denny’ Charles Kruger died peacefully in his sleep on November 27, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones. Denny was born to Donald and Leona Kruger on January 31, 1956. He grew up having adventures in his hometown of George, Iowa.  He was always hunting and fishing for walleye and crappie.  He and his friends were known for getting into mischief when they got together.  He moved to Wichita in 1978 and worked for Boeing/ Spirit Aerosystems for the last 31 years of his career before retiring in 2016.

He met the love of his life, Diane, and they were married 10 short weeks later on December 21, 1990. They had four children together and made thousands of cherished memories.

Denny was always full of laughter and life. He had always said it would be a cold day in hell when he got married and wouldn’t you know, it was so cold the day they got married that the pipes froze and there was no running water at church. He worked hard, providing a great life for his family, but lived for having adventures as well. There was rarely a dull moment with Denny around.

His favorite pastime was fishing and hosting fish fries for friends and family. He was opinionated and stubborn, and the best Pinochle partner you could ask for. He was fiercely proud of his children and loved being a grandpa. He loved traveling with his wife and up until the end, he just wanted to make sure that she was taken care of.  He tried being a prickly old man (his nickname since childhood was Cactus) but was the biggest softie when it came to his family.  He loved telling us stories about all of his adventures. We were never really sure that all his stories were true, but he never backed down and always stuck to it.  Our favorite story that he told was the time he met Jesus in the form of a beaver while stranded on a lake during a severe thunderstorm. He loved sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, and anything his children were involved in.

Denny is survived by his wife, Diane Kruger of Goessel, KS, and his four children, Destini (Brice) Wilson of Oakdale, Connecticut, Derek Kruger of Kansas City, Kansas, D’Ambra (Justin) Hinsley of Park City, Kansas, and Dane Kruger of Hays, Kansas; two grandchildren, Isabella and Leo Wilson of Oakdale, Connecticut, two brothers, Doug (Marcene)Kruger of New Bern, NC, Daryl Kruger of Wichita, Kansas, and one sister, Lori (Todd) Carstensen of George, Iowa, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and many, many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Leona Kruger of George, Iowa and brother David Kruger of Wichita, Kansas.

A Celebration of Life will occur in May 2022 at Marion Lake. Details will be forthcoming as plans are secured.

Vernon Francis Waner was born on December 3, 1926 to Andy and Frances Waner in a small dirt floor house just east of Florence, Kansas. When Vernon was six weeks old, his family moved to the OK Ranch where Vernon’s father became the foreman of the OK. Vernon spent his childhood on the OK Ranch. He attended District 22 School then in 1939 he attended the Catholic School in Florence, Kansas. When his father passed away in 1940, Vernon had to return to country school and finish 8th grade, at the age of 14 with all of his older brothers married or in the military. Vernon had to take over as foreman of the OK Ranch. He took pride in the fact that he was able to run the ranch and send his younger sister Dorothy through high school and care for both her and his mother.

Vernon met the love of his life, Henrietta Stika, at a cake walk held at the Youngtown school northeast of Marion. They were married November 14, 1951. They lived on various rental properties until settling down on her parent’s farm northeast of Marion for a number of years. During this time Vernon continued as foreman of the OK until he was able to move his mother off the ranch and into Florence in 1953. At that time, Vernon left ranching and became a farmer along with holding various jobs at Reynolds Aluminum, the Alfalfa Mill, the Riddle Quarry, Florence Quarry, KP &amp; L, and helped build concrete culverts on HWY 77. Vernon quit farming in 1993 and by that time had been working at Marion Die and Fixture for 13 years. Vernon and Henrietta moved to town in 1969. He retired from Die and Fixture in 2000. Retirement was spent fishing and helping his kids with one project or another. Vernon and Henrietta also enjoyed several bus trips to go gambling.

Vernon and Henrietta were proud parents of five children: David, Carol, Darrell, Michael, and Steven. They loved attending school functions and ball games and continued this tradition with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They spent their lifetime worrying about their children and grandchildren and doing anything to help them out.

Vernon enjoyed helping his children and could often be found tinkering around in either his garage or their garages fixing stuff. Vernon was proud of his garden and although he grumbled about it, he made sure to fill Henrietta’s dozens of flower pots each year and would diligently water her flowers. He continued taking care of some of her flowers after her death and always made sure to decorate her grave, especially for her birthday, their wedding anniversary, and Valentine's day.

Vernon was a member of the Knights of Columbus. His Catholic faith was very important to him and he enjoyed serving as an usher when needed. He enjoyed fishing at the lake with his brother, children, and grandchildren. He also enjoyed going to dances with Henrietta and the pair could be seen doing Polka or waltzing throughout their entire marriage. Family was very important to both Vernon and Henrietta and when Henrietta passed away in July 2017, Vernon lost the love of his life.

Along with his dear wife Henrietta, Vernon was met in Heaven by his parents and siblings John, Paul, Bob, George, Ruth, and Dorothy, along with brothers and sisters in law.

He is survived by his children Dave (Tena) Waner of Marion, Darrell (Holly) Waner of Chicago, Ill., Carol (Craig) Leppke of Hillsboro, Mike (Tina) Waner of McPherson, and Steve (Traci) Waner of Marion along with nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A private family graveside service will be held Saturday.

Memorials may be made to the Father Kapaun Fund &amp; Marion County Lake heated dock.

While attending Halstead High School she was active in plays/drama and played the violin in the orchestra . Her education was very important to her and she always enjoyed the challenge of learning. She graduated from Halstead High School in 1947. On March 7, 1948 Aileen was united in marriage to Floyd V. Miller in the Methodist church in Halstead. They moved to a farm east of Durham. This union was blessed with four children; Kathleen, Linda, Gayleen and son Alan. In spring of 1949, Aileen transferred her church membership from the Halstead Methodist Church to the Durham Church of God. While attending there she served as Sunday School teacher, song leader and various offices in the Women's' Missionary Society. After forty years on the farm, Aileen and Floyd moved to Hillsboro, KS. She became a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church in 1989 where she was active on many different committees. Aileen was employed, well over 25 years, as a nurse aide with Salem Hospital/Nursing Home and as a Home Health care aide. Aileen and Floyd volunteered at the Hillsboro Senior Center delivering meals and helping in the kitchen. The couple loved traveling to many different states while visiting family and friends along the way. In her leisure time she always enjoyed READING and arts and crafts. On March 7, 2017, the couple celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church. After the death of Floyd in 2017 the decision was made to move to Parkside Home in 2018 because of failing health. She resided there until her death. Her family admired her courage and strength through out her life. Her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to her. She was loved!&nbsp;&nbsp;

He graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy in Hays, KS in 1945 and graduated from Salt City Business College in 1949 with a degree in accounting. On October 2, 1950, Norman married Lucille Biggs at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Hutchinson. Norman enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. Norman was the owner of Midwest Feed Company for over 43 years. After that, he worked for the Kansas State Fair for over 20 years. He was a member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; Lucille; a grandson, Steven Karlin; siblings, Mildred Schmeidler, Helen Koester, Rita Mae Befort and Marvin Karlin. Norman is survived by his sons, Calvin (Jan) Karlin and Ronald (Brenda) Karlin; sisters, Margie Weishaar and Patty (Elmer) Brungardt; four grandchildren, Michael Karlin, Cameron Karlin, Katelin Mae Karlin, and Kristen Karlin; five great grandchildren; and many loving and caring nieces and nephews.

Gail Leon Dill, age 70, passed away on Nov. 22, 2021 at Pratt Regional Medical Center, Pratt, KS. She was born on Sept. 21, 1951 in Pratt, KS., the daughter of Carl Melvin and Nona Lea (Wilson) Staub. She is survived by her children, Heather Mathias, Aiken, SC; Brandon (Erica) Morrow, Spirit Lake, IA; Shelly Dill, St. John, brothers, Lonnie Staub, St. John, Carl Staub, Jr., St. John; sister Rita Suiter, Macksville; grandchildren, Abigail, Liam, Gabriel, Graham, Elijah and Castiel. When he returned home, he married and had 4 daughters.&nbsp; He worked as general manager of the Kansas Emulsion plant in Eldorado.

He was a member of the Methodist Church in Eldorado and a 32-degree Mason.

He tried his hand at Auctioneering and was a manager of a sonic drive in while living in Texas.

In later years he Married Betty Green of the Zenda area and lived a quiet life out on the farm for almost 25 years.

He died in Wheatland care home in Kingman Ks November 22 2021.&nbsp; A private family burial is planned later. Memorials to Rivercross Hospice in care of Livingstons funeral home.

Margaret Adeline Aldridge Baker, 90, died Nov. 29, 2021 at her home in Kingman.

Peggy’s life began on July 2, 1927, in Okeene, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Christian C. and Mollie C. (Jeffrey) Link. Peggy was the last surviving daughter from her family of twelve siblings. She graduated from high school in Okeene and was a player on the very first women’s high school basketball team in the State of Oklahoma. Peggy was united in marriage to Donald L. Buethe on April 3, 1949, in St John’s Lutheran Church in Lincolnville. She and Don were partners in the truest sense of the word. They started life with a small egg producing farm of about two hundred hens and when they retired, they had 22,000 laying hens. Peggy was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincolnville, and an avid supporter of 4-H and FFA. Peggy is survived by her daughter Kimberly (Mark) Harms of Lincolnville and her greatest joy, her grandchildren Taylor (Chase) Minihan, Cade Harms and Payton Harms. Peggy passed away on Thursday November 25, 2021, at the St. Luke’s Living Center. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, and children Edward, Dennis, and Donita. Larry’s life began on August 24, 1938, in St. Louis, MO. He is the son of Ray and Bernice (Ahlemey) Schwart. Larry graduated from Buhler High School, where he played basketball, football, track and baseball. He served his country in the Kansas Air National Guard. He was united in marriage to the former Lea Winkley on March 17, 1984, in Wichita. Larry was an insurance agent representing American National Insurance and Farmers Insurance. He and Lea also managed forty-eight rental properties. Larry enjoyed raising paint horses and showing his horses. He had been the President of the American Paint Horse Association. Lea and Larry were charter members of the Kansas Twisters RV Club and served as their vice president for four years and a national director for FMCA for the Kansas Twisters. He and Lea were also active in the Family Motorcoach Association and Larry always helped at event on the parking crew at least twice a year in March and September. They attended motorcoach conventions across the United States. Lea and Larry made many dear friends in the motorcoach association from coast to coast and north and south. Larry attended Holy Family Parish- St. Mark’s Church with his wife for over 17 years. He was an avid KU basketball fan and enjoyed watching their games. He is survived by his wife Lea of Marion, seven children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and two brothers Don (Ruth Ann) Schwart of Topeka and Ray (Yvonne) Schwart of Olathe. She graduated from McPherson High School.

Meroe was united in marriage to Harry E. Graber on November 24, 1949 at Eden Mennonite Church.&nbsp;

She was a member of Eden Mennonite Church in Moundridge, where she was active in the Dorcas Society.&nbsp; Meroe and Harry assisted with the Mennonite Disaster Service and the MCC sale for many years.&nbsp; They also served in 1W Service in Colorado.

Meroe and her sister-in-law, Vera Krehbiel, purchased the fabric store from Alvina Krehbiel and became co-owners and operators of Family Needs and Notions in Moundridge.&nbsp; She was a devoted homemaker and farmer’s wife.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice (Joe) Yoder of McPherson; eight grandchildren, Philip (Jeannie Roberts) Huff, Regina Kagle, Dustin (Amanda) Huff, Amanda (Chris) Kagle, Stacey Neufeldt, Steven Neufeldt, Yvonne Graber and Yulonda (Mark) Hartman; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and brother, Kerry (Nancy) Krehbiel of Hesston.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Velma.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife, Cristine of Hesston, Kansas; three sons, Clark Wenger and wife Gina of Lenexa, Kansas, Chad Wenger of Newton, Kansas, and Calvin Wenger and wife Shannon of Williamsburg, Kansas.&nbsp; Richard also leaves behind one brother; four sisters; and five grandchildren.

Richard gave his heart to God at a young age and remained faithful his entire life.&nbsp; He was a long-time resident of Hesston.&nbsp; After being married in 1967, Richard and his wife lived in Denver, Colorado for two years before returning to Hesston.&nbsp; Richard spent his career working in Hesston at the lumber yard and then the Hesston Mill, ultimately becoming part-owner and changing the name to Sunglo Feeds.&nbsp; He worked briefly for a manufacturing company in Hesston, before purchasing his own over the road truck and working for a couple different companies, which allowed him to travel the United States.&nbsp; In his mid-60’s, Richard retired and focused most of his attention on his greatest passions of spending time with family, and golf.&nbsp; He filled the hearts of his family and friends with endless love and laughter.&nbsp; The family wants to thank everyone for the cards, messages, meals, and love shown during this time of loss.

James Riley “Jim” Southworth, 78, of Hutchinson, died November 27, 2021, at his home. He was born May 13, 1943, in Hutchinson, the son of Earl H. and Eva A. (Phipps) Southworth.

Jim served in the United States Army from 1965-1968 and then spent 20 years in the Kansas Army National Guard. He retired as a bus driver for Buhler USD 313. Jim enjoyed bowling, traveling, riding his motorcycle, and making people laugh. He was of the Christian faith.

On June 11, 1983, Jim married Phyllis May Cole, in Hutchinson. She died September 26, 2013.

He is survived by: niece, Marie Meadows of Edmonton, KY; nephews, Everett Neuhauser of Edmonton, KY, Gene Jackson of Wichita; great-nephew, Andrew Jayne (Heather) of Wichita, Scott Jayne (Sam) of Eudora; great-niece, Christina Jayne of Edmonton, KY; 10 great-great-nephews and nieces; and many extended family members.

Jim was preceded in death by: his parents; sisters, Margaret and Evelyn; and nephew, Billy Neuhauser.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Bob Phipps officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park with military honors conducted by Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard. Medicine Lodge - Amber Ann Cline, 67, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021 at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital. She was born on May 15, 1954 in Medicine Lodge to Lonnie D. and Otilia Ann (Hamilton) Garten. Amber married Dave Cline on June 3, 1974 in Alva, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on September 28, 2012. Amber graduated from Medicine Lodge High School in 1972. She went on to earn her Associate Degree in Applied Science from Pratt Community College. Before retiring she worked as a manager for Arrowhead West for 20 years. She was a member of Pitch Club and Deerhead Circle. She enjoyed studying gorillas, history and geography, learning little unknown facts, cooking and practical jokes. She is survived by her daughter, Keri Cline of Medicine Lodge; daughter in-law, Heather (John) Ludwick of Medicine Lodge; sister, Anita Crater of Yates Center; brothers, Clay Garten of Wichita and Troy Garten of Lake City; grandchildren, Taylor (Quinten) Sanders, Saige Keller, Caity Cline, Casen Cline and Daylynn Keller; great-grandsons, Rossten and Colsten Sanders; and adopted daughter, Jessica Sanders of Medicine Lodge. Donna Sue “Susan” McConnell, 79, of Hutchinson, died November 27, 2021, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born April 8, 1942, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to George and Leona (Carvel) Ruble.

Susan was a graduate of Hutchinson High School. She worked as a secretary for Sky Craft, tax prep for Tennant, and bookkeeper for Farm Management. Susan loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid crossword player and reader. Susan also enjoyed cooking and gardening. She attended Crestview Bible Church, Hutchinson.

On March 10, 1961, Susan married Dale Eldon McConnell, in Hutchinson. She loved being with Dale, they were together from the time they were 14 years old. They shared 60 years of marriage.

Susan is survived by: husband, Dale McConnell; daughters, Kelly Everhart (Tracy) and Shannon Redenbaugh; son, Johnathan McConnell, all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Sarah Stucky, Shelby Stucky, Kren Littrell (Curtis), Katie Young (Michael); and great-grandchildren, Hayden, Liam, and Brinley Littrell, Jacob and Korbin Young.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Michael Dale McConnell; granddaughter, Casey Marie McConnell; sister, Warna Lee Selby; and son-in-law, Arlan Redenbaugh.

Debbie was very close to her two daughters, Nichole Clary (Matthew) of Wichita and Natalie Torrey (Caleb) of Saint George. They were fortunate to spend quality time with her often. She cherished her granddaughters and their extended families; Peyton Jerauld Brand (Dustin) of Hutchinson, Katelyn Forkell (Sam McCullers) of Hutchinson, and Clarissa Torrey, Vivian Torrey and Ruby Torrey of Saint George, Carsyn Stewart, Windy Brand and Ivy McCullers of Hutchinson.She also leaves behind an older brother, Gary Hodges (Cherry) of Lyons, KS and close friends and family members that she cared for dearly.

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, sister- Sharon Moore of Abbyville, KS and brother- Donald Hodges of Lyons, KS.&nbsp;

On May 5, 2007, she married Dennis Gehring of Moundridge. He survives. Together they enjoyed going to auctions, shopping for antiques and caring for their yard. Some of her favorite memories were spent playing softball and bowling with friends.

Debbie graduated from Nickerson High School in 1973 and retired from Pools Plus in 2016. She was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ since she was a young girl.

Marlyne “Mernie” Nininger, 103, died November 25 (Thanksgiving Day), 2021. She was born Marlyne Charlotte Neel, April 13, 1918, in Windom, Kansas, the third of five children, to Walter and Edna (Bengston) Neel. &nbsp;

Mernie graduated from Hutchinson High School, where she met Lawrence “Larry” Nininger in chemistry class. They were married October 14, 1939, and shared nearly 68 years of marriage. She earned a degree in medical records, with training in nursing from Hutchinson Community College.

After living briefly in Tulsa, and Chicago, Mernie and Larry became longtime Hutchinson area residents, retiring after 36 years of farming, and moving to Buena Vista, CO, in 1985.&nbsp; They returned to Hutchinson in 2005.&nbsp; Mernie was a charter member of Nickerson “Cameo Club”, PEO Chapter Q, helped found PEO Chapter DL in Buena Vista, and volunteered at Hospice House and the Hutchinson Public Library.&nbsp; She was involved in creating community and hospitality wherever she was; Mernie’s faith, family, friends (and a quantity of good food for all) were uppermost.

Mernie is survived by: son, Jerry Nininger (Debbie) of Hutchinson; daughter, Judy Edmands (Clay) of Buena Vista, CO; grandchildren, Scott Edmands (Debra), Elise Lowry (Tom), Jesse Nininger (Rebecca), Clifford Nininger (Lacey), Anna Nininger, and Katy Nininger; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Ailiff and Dr. Wilbur Neel; and sisters, Moretha Lyman and Ineta Studebaker; her husband Larry; and a grandson, Todd Edmands.

Cunningham - Dwayne Elliot, 85, passed away Friday, November 26, 2021 at Hilltop Manor in Cunningham. He was born on June 13, 1936 in Turon to Harrison and Georgia Elliot. Dwayne married Karen Laurice (Whitmore) Elliot on September 18, 1955 at Cunningham Christian Church. They were married for 66 years. Dwayne graduated from Turon High School in 1954. He worked as a farmer, was a school bus driver for USD 332 and was the Cunningham community announcer. He enjoyed attending ball games and his grandchildrens functions, reading and spending time with his family. Cunningham - Dwayne Elliot, 85, passed away Friday, November 26, 2021 at Hilltop Manor in Cunningham. He was born on June 13, 1936 in Turon to Harrison and Georgia Elliot. Dwayne married Karen Laurice (Whitmore) Elliot on September 18, 1955 at Cunningham Christian Church. They were married for 66 years. Dwayne graduated from Turon High School in 1954. He worked as a farmer, was a school bus driver for USD 332 and was the Cunningham community announcer. He enjoyed attending ball games and his grandchildrens functions, reading and spending time with his family. She was a homemaker, artist, and health coach. SueVaun was born May 22, 1982, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Keith and Jeanette (Unruh) Koehn. As a young girl, she attended Sugar Creek School in Galva. On February 7, 2009, she was united in marriage to Joshua D. Allison in McPherson, KS. Joy L. Cudney passed away on November 25, 2021, in Pratt, Kansas. She was born on June 7, 1924, in Trousdale, Kansas. Her four brothers—Thomas, Alexander, Doyn, and Charles—preceded her in death. She credited her older brother Thomas with her name, noting that he jumped for joy at having a baby sister.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Joy married Ray Earl Cudney on September 3, 1944, in Trousdale, Kansas. Together they built a life as farmers and raised four daughters: Barbara, Doris, Shirley, and Nancy. Joy was a member of the Trousdale United Methodist Church, where she was an active volunteer. She was also a member of the Extension Homemakers Unit, Order of the Eastern Star, and Master Farmer-Homemakers.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Joy leaves a legacy of kindness, grace, and resilience. She was devoted to her family and her community, living with generosity, warmth, and honesty. She will be greatly missed. Joy is survived by her four daughters, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;
