Kitchen Hero Academy

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — For the 4th time, Kitchen Hero Academy (KHA) is proud to offer a 10-week summer cooking program in partnership with community organizations, including Spark United, Dillons, The Hutchinson Zoo, the City of Hutchinson, The Hutchinson Community Foundation, The Youth Philanthropy Council, Pleasantview Home Improvement, and more.

Hutchinson local, Dr. Megan Bartley, OTD, OTR/L, is a pediatric occupational therapist and program director of Kitchen Hero Academy. Occupational therapy is a health profession that works to support the health and well-being of people across the lifespan through participation in meaningful and important everyday activities. As part of her doctoral studies in 2021, Megan used her expertise and experience to design this health promoting, group-based cooking skills program.

This program is for students who have completed 5th-8th grades in USD 308. No previous experience in cooking is needed. We’re here to teach our Kitchen Heroes all the skills they’ll need to make healthy, affordable, and delicious meals for a lifetime.

KHA includes weekly goal setting, hands-on cooking, field-trips, nutritional lessons, a family celebration dinner, and lifelong friendships. Our “Garden-to-Table” program provides a sustainable process of growing, harvesting, and cooking affordable and quality foods. Our data shows that Kitchen Heroes increased their preferences for healthy foods, food preparation skills, ability to make healthy food choices, their overall nutritional knowledge, and so much more!

Spots are limited, so register ASAP by emailing [email protected] or by using the link: https://forms.gle/oGE9ca6ZC7wxNgoy5

This program is offered for free through donations and grant funding. To make a tax-deductible charitable donation, please email [email protected].
