Arleen R. Branson, 96, of Lyons, passed away November 22, 2022, at Country Living of Lyons. She was born April 20, 1926, on her parents’ farm south of Bushton, the daughter of Elmer and Anna Schroeder Wesseler. 

Arleen had stated that she had a fun and interesting childhood growing up on the farm with her brother Orville. She was the last surviving member of the class of 1944 at Bushton High School. Arleen attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas and then Adela Hale Business Career School in Hutchinson, Kansas. She returned to Lyons to start her young adult life and worked in Lyons for the Rice County Ag Department and in the office of the local physician, Dr. Hill. Arleen met and married A.L. “Linc” Branson in Lyons in 1947 and over the next 30 years raised their family of four children and helped Linc manage and operate the family-owned trucking company, Branson Truck Line. When they sold the truck line in 1979, they spent the next fifteen years living in various parts of the United States, but never sold their home in Lyons, and returned to it to live out their retirement years. 

After the passing of her husband in 2004, Arleen lived in Lyons, Hutchinson, Great Bend, and Kansas City for the next ten years. She returned to Lyons once again for the third time in 2018 for the rest of her life. Arleen was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lyons, Order of the Eastern Star, and former President of Rice County Food Bank. She enjoyed volunteering for the Lyons Chamber of Commerce. 

She is survived by her three children, Donald Branson and wife Carl Connor of Prairie Village, Gaila Demel and husband Maurice of Ellinwood, and Nancy Lester and husband Morgan of Melbourne, FL; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Arleen is preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Pamela Branson and LaVonda Branson; sons-in-law, Daryle Nielsen and Conrad Odell; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Nielsen; brother, Orville Wesseler; and granddaughter, Debbie Nerich. 

Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 10, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church, Lyons, with Pastor Chris Lehew officiating. Arleen requested that her body be donated to the University of Kansas School of Medicine for medical student education. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church, Lyons or Rice County Community Foundation in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.

Gary Eugene “Papa G” Miller, 66, of Lyons, passed away November 20, 2022. He was born November 3, 1956, in Little River, the son of Donald E. and Marilyn A. Brown Miller. 

Gary was a lifetime Little River resident. He graduated from Little River High School with the class of 1974 and attended Hutchinson Community College. Gary was a farmer, rancher, and owner and operator of Miller Heating and Plumbing, LLC. He was a member of the Little River Jaycee’s, Little River Lions Club, and a member of Quail Forever. Gary also volunteered for the Little River Fire Department. He loved horses, roping, riding his motorcycle, classic cars, and making people laugh. He was an avid Royals, Kansas University Jayhawks, and Chiefs fan. Gary enjoyed boating at the lake with family and friends, fishing, and hunting. Most of all, Gary enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. On September 28, 1985, Gary was united in marriage with Michelle Rome in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

She survives of the home. He is also survived by his two sons, Garrett Miller and Gavin Miller and fiancé Baylee Carey both of Lyons; brother, Larry Miller and wife Kay of Albuquerque, NM; four grandchildren, Brynlee, Quintyn, Scarlet, and Steely Miller; mother and father-in-law, James and Geri Rome of Hutchinson; two sisters-in-law, Marla Parsons and husband Troy of Hutchinson, and Melinda DeSplinter and husband Rick of Andover; brother-in-law, Mitchell Rome and wife Laura of Hutchinson; nieces; nephews; countless friends; and extended family. Gary is preceded in death by his parents.

Charles was born on May 30, 1955, in Newton. He is the first of six children born to Richard and Thelma “Jeep” (Tallman) Edris. Charles graduated from Remington High School as the class of 1973. He then went on to play football for Tabor College in Hillsboro. In 1977, Charles began working at Horizon Milling in Newton, and retired after 43 years of service to the flour mill.

In his free time, Charles enjoyed all things hunting and fishing, but most of all, he loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. Charles’ family includes his partner, Merce Pentz, Wichita; children: Tawnya (Josh) Malecki, Hutchinson; Travis Edris, Halstead; &nbsp;Tiffany (John) Wendling, Halstead; grandchildren: MacKenzie Malecki, Nicholas Malecki, Clay Malecki, Peyton Wendling, Jackson Wendling, Leo Wendling; mother: Jeep Edris, Whitewater; siblings: Harry Edris, Whitewater; &nbsp;Dennis Edris, Whitewater; Bruce (Nanette) Edris, Whitewater; Sue (Raymond) Archer, Whitewater; &nbsp;Tina Edris Macy, Goddard; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands&nbsp;– Senior&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/keyontae-johnson/9899">Keyontae Johnson's</a>&nbsp;jumper with 4.7 seconds helped lift Kansas State to a 61-59 win over LSU to capture the 2022 Cayman Islands Classic Championship on Wednesday night before 2,400 fans at The John Gray Gym. The tournament title was the 17th&nbsp;in school history and the first since winning the 2018 Paradise Jam. Johnson (16 points) and fellow seniors&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/markquis-nowell/9650">Markquis Nowell</a>&nbsp;(18 points) and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/desi-sills/9686">Desi Sills</a>&nbsp;(16 points) combined for 50 of the Wildcats' 61 points, including 22 of their 28 second-half points, in which, the team rallied from an 11-point deficit with 17:27 to play. Nowell was named the Cayman Islands Classic Tournament MVP and to the all-tournament team, while Johnson was selected to the all-tournament team. Nowell averaged 18.7 points and 9.0 assists in the 3-game tournament, while Johnson averaged a team-best 19.3 points on 53.6 percent shooting with 6.0 rebounds per game. K-State (6-0) had to survive some nervous moments to earn the victory, as both teams called their full allotment of timeouts (2 each) before the last 4.7 seconds played out. LSU (5-1) was able to dribble up the court and seemingly tied the game at 61-all at the buzzer. However, the officials reviewed the play and waved the shot off after they discovered that the clock didn't start on time and the shot came after the game clock had expired. It was a tale of two halves for the Tigers, who looked like the more rested team after playing in the early sessions in the first 2 days and breezing past their first 2 opponents by 16 and 15 points, respectively. LSU scored 41 points in the first half on 47.1 percent (16-of-34), including 50 percent (5-of-10) from 3-point range, with just 3 turnovers, to build as much as a 12-point advantage right before halftime. Things changed in the second half, as the Tigers managed just 18 points on 36.8 percent (7-of-19) shooting, including 11.1 percent (1-of-9) from long range, to go with 14 turnovers. K-State took a season-high 6 charges on the night. Down 11 points with 17:27 remaining, the Wildcats slowly chipped away at the deficit, as they got contributions from multiple players but most notably from Sills, who scored 7 points in a game-changing 15-3 run. A Sills layup and dunk by sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/cam-carter/9658">Cam Carter</a>&nbsp;got the team to with 49-45 to force a timeout by LSU head coach&nbsp;Matt McMahon&nbsp;with just under 10 minutes to play. The run continued with a 3-point play from Sills before Carter gave K-State its first lead since the opening moments of the first half at 50-49 with 7:47 remaining. Nowell followed with a layup for a 52-49 edge, but LSU regained the lead on a pair of free throws and a jumper by&nbsp;Trae Hannibal. The teams went back and forth over the next few possessions before layups by&nbsp;KJ Williams&nbsp;and&nbsp;Adam Miller&nbsp;gave the Tigers a 59-57 advantage with 1:15 to play. Nowell was able to tie the game on a step back jumper with 49 seconds before junior&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/david-n-guessan/9670">David N'Guessan</a>&nbsp;drew the Wildcats' sixth charge of the evening to give the Wildcats the ball back with 34 seconds remaining. On K-State's final possession, Johnson mishandled the ball, but Sills was able to save it and feed him from the corner baseline to knock down the game-winning field goal with 4.7 seconds left. Nowell scored his game-high 18 points on 6-of-14 field goals, including 2-of-5 from 3-point range, and 4-of-4 free throws, to go with 4 assists and 4 rebounds in 33 minutes. Johnson, who played just 13 minutes in the second half due to foul trouble, scored his 16 points on 4-of-7 field goals and 7-of-8 free throws. Sills, who provided a spark to the Wildcats from the bench, scored his season-high 16 points off 6-of-9 field goals, including 1-of-3 from 3-point range, and 3-of-3 free throws, to go along with game-high 5 assists in 33 minutes. Carter also proved vital in the victory, snagging a career-high 7 rebounds – all on the defensive end – while posting 6 points, 1 assist and 1 steal in nearly 25 minutes. Johnson (16 points) and fellow seniors&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/markquis-nowell/9650">Markquis Nowell</a>&nbsp;(18 points) and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/desi-sills/9686">Desi Sills</a>&nbsp;(16 points) combined for 50 of the Wildcats' 61 points, including 22 of their 28 second-half points, in which, the team rallied from an 11-point deficit with 17:27 to play. Nowell was named the Cayman Islands Classic Tournament MVP and to the all-tournament team, while Johnson was selected to the all-tournament team. Nowell averaged 18.7 points and 9.0 assists in the 3-game tournament, while Johnson averaged a team-best 19.3 points on 53.6 percent shooting with 6.0 rebounds per game. K-State (6-0) had to survive some nervous moments to earn the victory, as both teams called their full allotment of timeouts (2 each) before the last 4.7 seconds played out. LSU (5-1) was able to dribble up the court and seemingly tied the game at 61-all at the buzzer. However, the officials reviewed the play and waved the shot off after they discovered that the clock didn't start on time and the shot came after the game clock had expired. It was a tale of two halves for the Tigers, who looked like the more rested team after playing in the early sessions in the first 2 days and breezing past their first 2 opponents by 16 and 15 points, respectively. LSU scored 41 points in the first half on 47.1 percent (16-of-34), including 50 percent (5-of-10) from 3-point range, with just 3 turnovers, to build as much as a 12-point advantage right before halftime. Things changed in the second half, as the Tigers managed just 18 points on 36.8 percent (7-of-19) shooting, including 11.1 percent (1-of-9) from long range, to go with 14 turnovers. K-State took a season-high 6 charges on the night. Down 11 points with 17:27 remaining, the Wildcats slowly chipped away at the deficit, as they got contributions from multiple players but most notably from Sills, who scored 7 points in a game-changing 15-3 run. A Sills layup and dunk by sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/cam-carter/9658">Cam Carter</a>&nbsp;got the team to with 49-45 to force a timeout by LSU head coach&nbsp;Matt McMahon&nbsp;with just under 10 minutes to play. The run continued with a 3-point play from Sills before Carter gave K-State its first lead since the opening moments of the first half at 50-49 with 7:47 remaining. Nowell followed with a layup for a 52-49 edge, but LSU regained the lead on a pair of free throws and a jumper by&nbsp;Trae Hannibal. The teams went back and forth over the next few possessions before layups by&nbsp;KJ Williams&nbsp;and&nbsp;Adam Miller&nbsp;gave the Tigers a 59-57 advantage with 1:15 to play. Nowell was able to tie the game on a step back jumper with 49 seconds before junior&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/david-n-guessan/9670">David N'Guessan</a>&nbsp;drew the Wildcats' sixth charge of the evening to give the Wildcats the ball back with 34 seconds remaining. On K-State's final possession, Johnson mishandled the ball, but Sills was able to save it and feed him from the corner baseline to knock down the game-winning field goal with 4.7 seconds left. Nowell scored his game-high 18 points on 6-of-14 field goals, including 2-of-5 from 3-point range, and 4-of-4 free throws, to go with 4 assists and 4 rebounds in 33 minutes. Johnson, who played just 13 minutes in the second half due to foul trouble, scored his 16 points on 4-of-7 field goals and 7-of-8 free throws. Sills, who provided a spark to the Wildcats from the bench, scored his season-high 16 points off 6-of-9 field goals, including 1-of-3 from 3-point range, and 3-of-3 free throws, to go along with game-high 5 assists in 33 minutes. Carter also proved vital in the victory, snagging a career-high 7 rebounds – all on the defensive end – while posting 6 points, 1 assist and 1 steal in nearly 25 minutes. For the game, K-State connected 41.7 percent (20-of-48), including just 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from 3-point range, and hit on 81 percent (17-of-21) from the free throw line. Once again nearly half the team's points came in the paint (28), while they scored 16 points off those 17 LSU turnovers. LSU hit on 43.4 percent (23-of-53) from the field, including 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from long range, and made just 50 percent (7-of-14) of its free throws. Williams had a double-double with a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds, while&nbsp;Justice Hill&nbsp;and Miller added 12 and 11 points, respectively. K-State moved to 6-0 to start a season for the first time since 2018-19. HOW IT HAPPENED Senior&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/keyontae-johnson/9899">Keyontae Johnson</a>&nbsp;continued his strong play in the tournament by scoring the first 8 points for the Wildcats on 3-of-3 from the field, including 1-of-1 from 3-point range. However, a technical on Johnson after a 3-pointer sparked an 8-0 run that gave the Tigers a 15-8 lead at the 11:51 mark. K-State was able to respond with a 6-0 run to close to within 15-14, but LSU connected on 3-pointers on 3 of the next 5 possession to push the lead to double figures at 28-18 with 6:56 on the clock. The lead grew to 12 after a free throw and jumper by the Tigers, forcing head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/jerome-tang/1856">Jerome Tang</a>&nbsp;to call his first timeout with 5:31 remaining. Moments later, the momentum grew even more for LSU, as Johnson was forced to the bench with his third personal foul at the 4:26 mark. Senior&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/desi-sills/9686">Desi Sills</a>&nbsp;did his part to cut into the deficit with a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer to pull K-State to within 33-26, but another 5-0 spurt put the lead back at 12 with 1:32 before halftime. The Wildcats were able to gain a little momentum from a technical on LSU's&nbsp;Adam Miller, as senior&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/markquis-nowell/9650">Markquis Nowell</a>&nbsp;canned 4 free throws and added a 3-pointer that rolled around and fell in at the buzzer to put the halftime deficit at 41-33. A pair of free throws by Johnson helped K-State close to within 41-35 to open the second half but a corner 3-pointer and a jumper put LSU back up by double figures. The Wildcats stayed in the fight, closing to within 47-41 on a pair of free throws by Johnson and junior&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/david-n-guessan/9670">David N'Guessan</a>&nbsp;then forced an LSU timeout after a basket by Sills and a dunk by sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/cam-carter/9658">Cam Carter</a>&nbsp;that pulled them to within 49-45 with 9:52 remaining. HESSTON, Kan. – Bluestem Communities announced on Nov. 23, they are preparing their Schowalter Villa life plan community for a series of leadership transitions through internal promotions that will be finalized in early 2023.&nbsp;

After 14 years in leadership at Schowalter Villa, Treva Greaser, BSN, RN, CRRN, C-NE, announced her resignation effective Jan. 6, 2023. &nbsp;

Schowalter Villa is just one of the communities comprising Bluestem Communities.&nbsp;

The Schowalter Villa life plan community offers living options for independent living, assisted living and skilled health care, as well as the Progressive Recovery Academy program for individuals needing short-term care following hospitalization and rehabilitation.&nbsp;

Greaser transitioned from Vice President of Health Services to the executive director role at Schowalter Villa as the life plan community merged with its counterpart, Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton, Kan., in 2012 to form Bluestem Communities.&nbsp;

Bluestern Communities is a non-profit organization that serves seniors through various living options, care settings and care-centered services. &nbsp;

Other communities comprising Bluestem Communities are&nbsp;Bluestem PACE (Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) in McPherson, Kan. and Hutchinson, Kan. which provides services to older adults, allowing them to stay living in their own homes for as long as possible, and the Kidron Bethel Village life plan community in North Newton, Kan.&nbsp;

“Treva has been a tremendous asset to Schowalter Villa and Bluestem Communities over these last 14 years,” James Krehbiel, Bluestem Communities President and CEO said. “She helped create a smooth merger with Kidron Bethel Village 10 years ago, and exemplified outstanding leadership in navigating the complexities and ever-changing guidance of the COVID-19 pandemic. During Greaser’s tenure, Schowalter Villa won numerous awards for quality and excellent care services. &nbsp;

Recently, Greaser and her team helped Schowalter Villa earn the 2002-23 PEAK Award for Sustained Person-Centered Care Homes – Level 4 from the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS). &nbsp;

She has also led Schowalter Villa to multiple 5-star quality ratings with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). &nbsp;

Additionally, she led the staff through several deficiency-free surveys, including throughout the pandemic.&nbsp;

“It’s been an honor to be a part of the Schowalter Villa team and to serve residents,” Greaser said. “I have built wonderful, meaningful relationships with both residents and staff, and leaving those relationships will be difficult. I am looking forward to new opportunities and continuing to use the knowledge and skills that have developed during my time here. Schowalter Villa has a strong team of staff, and I am confident that it will continue to thrive under new leadership.”&nbsp;

Succeeding Greaser as Executive Director will be Jeff Ritcha, BSN, RN, MBA, who recently has served Schowalter Villa as Director of Nursing.&nbsp;

Ritcha served at Schowalter Villa since April 2008 in a variety of roles in addition to Director of Nursing, including charge nurse and neighborhood nurse manager. &nbsp;

As Greaser took on additional responsibilities in the past year, Ritcha provided support for the Executive Director role.&nbsp;

“Jeff has demonstrated strong leadership and care for residents in his time at Schowalter Villa, and we are excited to welcome him to this leadership role for Schowalter Villa and Bluestem Communities,” Krehbiel said.&nbsp;

Ritcha earned an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) from Hesston College, as well as a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Emporia (Kan.) State University. Ritcha also holds a nursing home administrator license.&nbsp;

“I am looking forward to building on the strengths of Schowalter Villa and continuing the high quality of care that we are known for,” Ritcha said. “It’s a blessing to step into this position of leadership with such a strong team, and to provide the best care possible for the residents we serve.”&nbsp;

Moving into the vacated Director of Nursing role will be Yeimi De La Mora, ADN. &nbsp;

De La Mora has served at Showalter Villa since November 2010 in a variety of roles including Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), Certified Medication Aide (CMA), charge nurse and Neighborhood Case Manager. &nbsp;

Over the last several months, De La Mora has assisted Ritcha with coverage of the Director Nursing role.&nbsp;

“Yeimi has displayed a strong ability to create quality relationships with residents and co-workers, and we are excited to have her step into this next level of leadership,” Krehbiel said.&nbsp;

De La Mora holds an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Butler Community College (El Dorado, Kan.) and is in progress toward a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Wichita (Kan.) State University. She previously earned a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) degree from Hutchinson&nbsp;Community College.&nbsp;

“I am thankful to be part of an amazing team at Schowalter Villa that not only cares about providing exceptional care to residents, but also gives employees educational and career development opportunities,” De La Mora said. “It is an honor for me to transition into this leadership role in which I can lead the team to continue carrying out the mission of the organization and cultivate meaningful relationships with residents, families and staff.”&nbsp;

Schowalter Villa announces leadership transitions

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Mark Tallman with the Kansas Association of School Boards notes that the State Board of Education approved changes to graduation requirements for students that are not yet in high school earlier this month.

"The State Board of Education has spent about a year and a half looking at high school graduation requirements," Tallman said. "In the end, it is not really that they made a lot of big changes, but they have done some things to, I think, try to add a little more flexibility for students and add a few additional requirements."

Right now, the state board requires everyone to have 21 credits to graduate. That minimum number isn't any larger, but some areas are more specific. There will now need to be at least half a credit related to financial literacy and an additional credit in the STEAM area, preferably in computer science.

"The Board is saying students should have to have two additional, what they are calling, post-secondary assets," Tallman said. "Probably the best way to explain this is, they are going to have to earn two other recognitions that are not part of classes you would take. This could be anything from earning a technical certificate while you are in high school, scoring high on the ACT or SAT or state assessments to demonstrate college readiness, completing a community service project, some type of internship or job shadowing or on the job training."

The details on that requirement are still to be worked out, but the goal is to say, if you've learned what is needed for a requirement, you don't necessarily need to have learned it in a traditional classroom.

"Let's say a student is participating in Olympic-level training in some type of sport, should you also have to take a half year of physical education to satisfy that?" Tallman said. "The idea is to say if the school, the principal, the school board can agree that there are other ways to show that you are learning what you would be expected to learn in these required classes, there are different ways you can award credit. The question is, how can we come up with a system that people have confidence in, that it is meaningful, that it is fairly applied and those things."

Again, they are not asking current high schoolers to change in midstream, but rather to phase it in for those who will be freshmen next year.

The official pairings for the NJCAA Division I Football National Semifinals have been released and one of the matchups will be an all-Jayhawk Conference showdown at Gowans Stadium.

The No. 1-ranked and top-seeded Hutchinson Community College Football team will play host to the No. 4 Coffeyville Red Ravens at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 3 at Gowans Stadium in the first of two national semifinal games.

The other semifinal has No. 3 Iowa Western traveling to No. 2 Northwest Mississippi at 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 4 in Senatobia, Mississippi.

The semifinal winners will meet in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Game on Wednesday, December 14 at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Advanced ticket sales are already underway online. Tickets for the Hutchinson-Coffeyville semifinal are $15 advanced and $18 at the gate. All seating in Gowans Stadium will be general admission for this game. Blue Dragon All-Sports Tickets are not valid for the national semifinals. Both national semifinals will be streamed on ESPN+.

The Blue Dragons navigated a tough 2022 schedule as the only undefeated team in the NJCAA this season, winning the program's 10th Jayhawk Conference title and third in a row.

On the way to that league title, the Blue Dragons and Red Ravens met on September 24 in Coffeyville. The Blue Dragons won the defensive struggle 14-9 over the Red Ravens.

Running back&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/kedzior_dylan_601l">Dylan Kedzior</a>&nbsp;came off the bench in the second half against Coffeyville and ignited the Blue Dragon offense. Kedzior rushed for 85 yards in the fourth quarter, including a 21-yard run that set up his 3-yard go-ahead touchdown with 1:17 remaining in regulation.

The Blue Dragons are making their second national playoff appearance in the last three seasons. The Blue Dragons ran the table two seasons ago, defeating Snow College 29-27 in the first national championship played in Little Rock on June 5, 2020.

The semifinal round was installed before last season and the Dragons were No. 5 in the final regular-season rankings, just one spot out of the playoffs. After a decisive win over Hinds in the Salt City bowl, the Blue Dragons finished No. 3 in the national rankings.

The Dragons have now reeled off 16-straight wins, the second-longest win streak in program history.

After starting this season 2-2, Coffeyville has reeled off six-straight wins to steadily climb up the NJCAA National Rankings. The Ravens moved into the No. 4 spot in the poll after a convincing final two weeks of the regular season – a 23-7 home when over previous No. 2 Iowa Western and a 30-21 road triumph at Garden City.

This semifinal will feature the two Jayhawk Conference Players of the Year in Hutchinson's Kedzior – the league's 2022 Offensive Player of the Year – at Coffeyville's Bishop Fitzgerald, the league's Defensive Player of the Year. Also, the last two league coaches of the year – Hutchinson's Drew Dallas (2022) and Coffeyville's Jeff Leiker (2021) will be on the sidelines. Blue Dragon quarterback&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/laible_dylan_elo2">Dylan Laible</a>&nbsp;was also a finalist for the Walter Jones Player of the Year award.

The national semifinal appearance will be the 25th NJCAA postseason game in Blue Dragon Football history. The Dragons have played in 23 bowl games previously and now two national playoff appearances.

This will be the third postseason meeting between Hutchinson and Coffeyville that didn't involve the Jayhawk Conference/Region VI playoffs. The teams played in back-to-back Wheat Bowls in Wichita in 1948 and 1949. Coffeyville won the 1948 Wheat Bowl, 19-7. The teams tied 13-13 in 1948.

Hutchinson is 3-5 in eight KJCCC Playoff meetings with Coffeyville, going 3-0 at Gowans Stadium.

The most memorable of those three playoff meetings came in 1995 when the Blue Dragons, trailing 10-3 in the fourth quarter, ran a fake punt from their own 17 and converted on fourth-and-long. That successful fake ultimately led to a game-tying touchdown with 3 minutes left in regulation. The Blue Dragons won 17-16 in overtime when Coffeyville missed the potential game-tying extra-point try in the first overtime.

🏈 Dragons to meet Coffeyville In NJCAA semifinal game

Jon Lynn Reifschneider, 61, passed away November 20, 2022, at his home.&nbsp; He was born January 4, 1961, in Garden City, to Gerald Lynn Reifschneider and Phyllis Joan (Renfro) Reifschneider.&nbsp; Jon spent a brief time in Saint Louis, MO, before moving to Great Bend.

Jon attended Harrison Junior High School and was a 1979 graduate of Great Bend Senior High School.&nbsp; While in high school, he played the french horn, trumpet and drums in the band.&nbsp; Jon participated in Debate and won third place at State with his debate partner, Libby Moore, and second place at Regionals.&nbsp; He was a member of the National Speech and Forensics League.&nbsp; Jon was the reporter for the Future Farmers of America (FFA) from 1978 to 1979 and a member of the State Student Congress.&nbsp; He attended Barton County Community College, graduating in 1981 with an Associates Degree in Pre-Law.&nbsp; In 1983, Jon obtained a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Political Science with an emphasis in Public Administration.

From 1983 to 1986, he was employed as a deputy for the Barton County Sheriff’s Reserve.&nbsp; Jon worked as an equipment operator and corrosion repairman for Straub Oil Field, Great Bend, from 1984 to 1986.&nbsp; He then went to work as a sales representative for AW Chesterton, Wichita, KS, from 1986 to 1991.&nbsp; In 1991, Jon was employed by JCI Industries as a Sales Engineer, Sales Manager, Vice-President of Sales and Sales Territory Manager, until 2020.&nbsp; He was the top Sales Engineer for a majority of his career.

Jon served on the Unified School District #310 Board of Education from 2001 to 2004.&nbsp; He served as the Board President from 2005 to 2009.&nbsp; Jon, along with his dear friend, James Williams, founded and served as co-chairpersons for the Arlington Recreation Commission in 2000.&nbsp; He, along with many other parent volunteers, coached just about every sport from T-ball to basketball.&nbsp; Jon was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, slow pitch softball, snow skiing, water skiing, and boating.&nbsp; Jon raised quail and developed the family farm into a wildlife refuge.&nbsp; In 2000, he received the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Wildlife Award.&nbsp; Jon’s favorite hobby was watching his kids participate in academic and athletic events through the collegiate level.&nbsp; Later in life, he enjoyed listening to music with his grandchildren in the man cave and teaching them about raising goats and cattle and going for rides in the polaris.

On January 10, 1987, Jon married Marilyn McIntosh, in Wichita.&nbsp; In 1996, they purchased their farm and move to Arlington.&nbsp; Together they had three children, Paul, Elizabeth, and Michael.

He is survived by:&nbsp; his wife, Marilyn Reifschneider of Arlington; children, Paul (Robin) Reifschneider of Newton, Elizabeth (Sean Boston) Reifschneider of Hays, and Michael (Madalyn Oliver) Reifschneider of Round Rock, TX; grandchildren, Avery Harper, Parker Lynn, Eli Gerald, Lucas Paul, and Landry Jon; and siblings, Tom (Tasha) Reifschneider and Lori Ann Reifschneider.

Jon was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his parents, Gerald and Phyllis Reifschneider; infant brother, Paul David Reifschneider; and parents-in-law, Charles Oscar and Leona McIntosh.

Parish Rosary will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2022, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 612 S. Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge is today

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands&nbsp;– Kansas State once again used a huge first-half performance to carry itself to victory, as the Wildcats advanced to the semifinals of the Cayman Islands Classic with a 77-57 win over Rhode Island on Monday night before 1,256 fans at The John Gray Gym. K-State (4-0) will take on Nevada (5-0) in the second semifinal game on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m., CT. The Wildcats, who remained unbeaten under first-year head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/jerome-tang/1856">Jerome Tang</a>, scored 44 points in the first half on a blistering 58.1 percent (18-of-31) shooting to build as much as a 21-point lead. On the defensive end, the Rams (1-3) were held to 31.3 percent (10-of-32) shooting, including 12.5 percent (1-of-8) from 3-point range. Although the second half was plagued by sloppy play with a combined 23 turnovers, including 13 by K-State, the lead never dipped below 15 points, and grew to many as 24 in the waning minutes. Junior&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/nae-qwan-tomlin/9662">Nae'Qwan Tomlin</a>&nbsp;led a balanced attack with 15 points, including 13 in the first half, while senior&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/keyontae-johnson/9899">Keyontae Johnson</a>&nbsp;and junior&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/david-n-guessan/9670">David N'Guessan</a>&nbsp;added 14 and 12 points, respectively. Johnson has now scored in double figures in all 4 games as a Wildcat, while N'Guessan and Tomlin each recorded new season-highs. Tomlin also added 5 blocked shots, which were the most by a Wildcat since&nbsp;Jordan Henriquez-Roberts&nbsp;in 2013. K-State had 20 assists on 28 made field goals, including a sensational performance from senior&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/markquis-nowell/9650">Markquis Nowell</a>, who was responsible for 12 of those assists to go along with 9 points and 5 rebounds in 27 minutes. The 12 assists tied for the fourth-most in a single game in school history and were the most since&nbsp;Steve Henson&nbsp;collected 12 assists against Oklahoma State on Feb. 25, 1989. The total was one assist shy of Nowell's career-high of 13 that he accomplished twice while playing at Little Rock. Nowell now has totaled 9 career games of at least 10 assists, including 4 at K-State. The 12 assists gave him 499 in his career, as he closes on the distinction of being one of just two active Division I players (Tennessee State's&nbsp;Junior Clay) with 1,300 points, 500 assists and 200 steals. For the game, K-State connected on a season-high 52.8 percent (28-of-53), including 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from 3-point range, and hit on 77.8 percent (14-of-18) from the free throw line. More than half (38) of the team's 77 points came in the paint, while the Wildcats once again took advantage of their opponent's turnovers, turning 16 Ram miscues into 21 points. The team has forced their first 4 opponents into 86 turnovers. Rhode Island shot 32.7 percent (16-of-55) from the field, including 16.7 percent (2-of-12) from 3-point range, with a third of its points coming from the free throw line (19). Sophomore&nbsp;Ishmael Leggett&nbsp;led the Rams with 13 points on 4-of-11 shooting and 5-of-7 free throws, while sophomore&nbsp;Brayon Freeman&nbsp;added 11 points from the bench. The winner of Tuesday's second semifinal between K-State and Nevada will play the winner of the first semifinal between Akron (3-1) or LSU (4-0) in the Championship game on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., CT. The Wolf Pack knocked off previously unbeaten Tulane, 75-66, in the first game of the night session, while the Tigers defeated Illinois State, 77-61, and the Zips defeated Western Kentucky, 72-53. After suffering its first loss of the season, the Hutchinson Community College Women's Basketball team looks to hit the reset button heading into a short prep window for its next game on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons landed just outside the Top 10 in the latest NJCAA Division I rankings, coming in at No.12 in the nation after being ranked fourth last week.

Hutchinson lost to Cloud County 75-65 on Saturday in its first true road trip this season. The Blue Dragon women are 7-1 overall, 1-1 in the Jayhawk Conference after defeating Independence 61-53 in the league opener last Wednesday.

The top three in the rankings remained the same – Trinity Valley reigning at the top, Northwest Florida State at No. 2, and Blinn College No. 3. The Blue Dragons and Casper had the largest dips in the rankings by falling eight spots each. Eastern Arizona and Indian River State entered the rankings after not being ranked the week prior.

Among the Jayhawk, Barton rose one spot from No. 16 to No. 15. Dodge City moved up three spots from No. 25 to No. 22.

The Blue Dragon women hit the road for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff Tuesday against the Pratt Beavers.

The Jayhawk Conference champion Hutchinson Community College Football team will head into the NJCAA National Playoffs as the No. 1 team in the nation.

The final regular-regular season poll was released on Monday and the unbeaten Blue Dragons (10-0) stayed on top for the seventh-straight week and will play host to 1 of the 2 NJCAA National semifinals on the weekend of December 3rd at Gowans Stadium.

The official pairings with dates, times and opponent will be released by the NJCAA on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons received all 11 first-place votes in Monday's national rankings. Northwest Mississippi (10-1) is No. 2, followed by Iowa Western (8-2) at No. 3 and Coffeyville (8-2) at No. 4.

Snow College (8-2) defeated Lackawanna 30-7 on Saturday in Scranton, Pennsylvania, but the Badgers weren't able to pass Coffeyville into fourth place. The Blue Dragons defeated Snow 29-27 in the 2020-21 national championship game two seasons ago.

Butler was the third and final team from the KJCCC to be ranked. The Grizzlies are in a good spot to play in a postseason bowl game. Those matchups should also be released on Tuesday by the NJCAA.

This is the second time in three seasons the Blue Dragons head into the postseason as the No. 1 ranked team. Two seasons ago, there was no national semifinal round so the Blue Dragons and Badgers went directly to the national championship game, which was played at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas.

🏈 Blue Dragons No. 1 in final NJCAA Football Poll

Mark Stephen Knight, 57, of Lyons, passed away November 18, 2022, at Riverview Estates, Marquette. He was born May 14, 1965, in Lyons, the son of Kenneth Edward “Kenny” and JoAnna McCoy Knight. 

Mark was a lifelong Lyons resident. He graduated from Lyons High School with the class of 1983; and later attended Kansas State University and Hutchinson Community College, where he played football. Mark worked for Knight Farms, before assuming responsibility of managing Knight Feedlot from 1990 until 2016. 

He was also co-owner of Calm Creek Carriers, Lyons since 2008. Mark was a member of the Church of Christ, Lyons and attended the First Christian Church, Lyons in his early years. He served on the Lyons USD #405 School Board, KLA Leadership Conference, KLA Rice County Committeeman, KLA Board of Directors At Large, KLA Board of Directors Rice County, KLA Natural Resources Committee member, KLA Natural Resources Committee Vice Chair, KLA Natural Resources Chair, KLA Policy &amp; Resolutions Committee, KLA Water Committee, KLA School Finance Task Force, KLA Cattle Feeders Council, KLA RMS Safety Committee, Kansas Beef Council Executive Committee, NCBA Young Cattlemen’s Conference, NCBA Board of Directors Policy, NCBA Property Rights/Environmental Management Committee, and NCBA Tax &amp; Credit Committee. 

Mark was also involved with the K.A.R.L. program. Mark enjoyed going to Kansas State University Football games, tailgating with his family and friends, and taking care of pasture cattle. He played Santa on the Lyons Square at Christmastime for several years. 

On December 7, 1984, Mark was united in marriage with Sherri Suhler in Lyons. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his two children, Chelsi Neufeldt and husband Scott of Inman, and Luke Knight and wife Kala of Lyons; sister, Kathryn Maxwell and husband Mark of Manhattan; sister-in-law, Susie Knight-Loges and husband Charles of McPherson; three grandchildren, Westin and Landon Neufeldt, and Goldie Knight; stepmother, Tamara Knight of Lyons; step-sister, Lindsay Hufnagel and husband Shad of Manhattan; step-brother, Ryan Boltz and wife Holly, Lyons; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and JoAnna Knight; two brothers, Phillip Alan Knight and K. John Knight; and sister, Judith Knight Hutton.

 Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M., Monday, November 28, 2022, at the Church of Christ, Lyons with Robert Taverner and Steve Sears officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Through the years Curtis attended Moundridge grade school, Moundridge Middle School and Moundridge High School, Moundridge, Kansas. He then attended Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, Kansas. Through the years Curtis worked for Midwest Industries in McPherson as a production worker. Curtis enjoyed remote control planes, models, gardening, yard work, his dogs and spending time with friends and family. Curtis Eugene Rhea was united in marriage to Dena Sue Trindale on Oct. 1, 1971. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of three sons, Timothy, Heath and Brian. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Dena Rhea, of McPherson; his children, Heath Rhea, of McPherson, and Brian Rhea and his wife Lillian, of McPherson. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Josh, Luke and Olivia Grace. Jerry Ray Clarke, 79, passed away November 15, 2022, at his home.&nbsp; He was born December 31, 1942, in Hutchinson, to David James Clarke and Velma Marie (Corkins) Clarke.

Jerry was a 1961 graduate of Ellinwood High School, Ellinwood.&nbsp; He also graduated from Salt City Business College, Hutchinson.&nbsp; Jerry served in the United States Army Reserves.&nbsp; He was employed for many years as an accountant at Consolidated Manufacturing Inc., Hutchinson.&nbsp; Jerry was a longtime member of Eastwood Church of Christ, Hutchinson.

He enjoyed fishing and playing cards with a card group comprised of family friends.&nbsp; Jerry and his wife, Anita, liked to travel, and frequently visited Hawaii and Branson, MO.&nbsp; They even participated in a church mission work trip to Antiqua.&nbsp; He loved to dress up as Santa Claus and Anita as Mrs. Claus to bring many hours of entertainment for his family and for families of the church.

On May 14, 1963, Jerry married Anita Rae Fletcher, at the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church.&nbsp; They shared over 59 years of marriage.

He is survived by:&nbsp; his wife, Anita Clarke of Hutchinson; sisters, Marilyn (Delmer Thibault) Sherman of Hays, and Darlene Oglesbee of Palatka, FL; and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.

Jerry was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his maternal and paternal grandparents; parents; and three brothers-in-law.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Eastwood Church of Christ, 2500 N. Plum, Hutchinson, with Wayne DeWindt officiating.&nbsp; Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp; Cremation has taken place.

Jerry Ray Clarke, 79, passed away November 15, 2022, at his home.&nbsp; He was born December 31, 1942, in Hutchinson, to David James Clarke and Velma Marie (Corkins) Clarke.Jerry was a 1961 graduate of Ellinwood High School, Ellinwood.&nbsp; He also graduated from Salt City Business College, Hutchinson.&nbsp; Jerry served in the United States Army Reserves.&nbsp; He was employed for many years as an accountant at Consolidated Manufacturing Inc., Hutchinson.&nbsp; Jerry was a longtime member of Eastwood Church of Christ, Hutchinson.He enjoyed fishing and playing cards with a card group comprised of family friends.&nbsp; Jerry and his wife, Anita, liked to travel, and frequently visited Hawaii and Branson, MO.&nbsp; They even participated in a church mission work trip to Antiqua.&nbsp; He loved to dress up as Santa Claus and Anita as Mrs. Claus to bring many hours of entertainment for his family and for families of the church.On May 14, 1963, Jerry married Anita Rae Fletcher, at the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church.&nbsp; They shared over 59 years of marriage.He is survived by:&nbsp; his wife, Anita Clarke of Hutchinson; sisters, Marilyn (Delmer Thibault) Sherman of Hays, and Darlene Oglesbee of Palatka, FL; and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.Jerry was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his maternal and paternal grandparents; parents; and three brothers-in-law.Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Eastwood Church of Christ, 2500 N. Plum, Hutchinson, with Wayne DeWindt officiating.&nbsp; Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp; Cremation has taken place.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Street Cat Society was able to hold another&nbsp;spay/neuter and vaccinate event Saturday.

They said that nearly 300 cats have been fixed this year, including 50 this past Saturday.

They partnered with the KSU College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Hutchinson Animal Shelter. The vets and future vets from K-State&nbsp; give up their weekends to serve communities in need.

"Our gratitude knows no bounds," the group said on social media. "As a non profit, we are so very blessed to have their support and help. They have made an incredible difference in our community."&nbsp;&nbsp;

K-State mobile surgery unit helps Hutchinson cats

Jess Warren Robinson (Sunrise&nbsp;February 21, 1941-&nbsp;Sunset&nbsp;November 12, 2022)

Warren was the second child born from the union of Gerald Walter Robinson and Frances Waller Robinson Tomlin of Wichita. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1959 and attended Hutchinson Junior College. Following in the footsteps of his father, Gerald (serving 25 years), and grandfather, Walter (serving 43 years), Warren became a firefighter, totaling over 100 years of a Robinson in Kansas firefighting service. He distinguished himself as not only the first Black firefighter in Hutchinson, but excelled to the rank of Captain (also the first Black), before retiring with 33 years of active service. Throughout those years Warren was a proud member of the Firefighter’s Union, IAAF Local 179. He also was passionate about researching his family’s genealogy, especially focusing on and proud of his Buffalo Soldier ancestry, and loved fishing.

Warren and his wife, Geneva, enjoyed more than 60 years of love and friendship together. They owned and operated their own drapery business, Robinson Interiors, for 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Robinson; mother, Frances Tomlin; sons, Yancy Robinson, Anthony Robinson; and nephew, John Evers Robinson.

Warren is survived by his wife, Geneva; son Teddy Robinson (Lisa) of Houston, TX; daughters, Shari Robinson, Rhea Robinson; 8 grandchildren, Jeremy, Jasmin, Monique, Dominique, Deion, Leslie, Lance, and very special granddaughter, Abriel;&nbsp; 7 great-grand-children; siblings, Gerry Robinson (Paula) of New York, Victor Waters (Cheryl), Quita Waters of Altadena, California, Keith Robinson (Patsy) of Houston, TX; 6 nephews and nieces; many extended family members; and a countless number of “adopted” children who loved him deeply.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2022, at Elliott Chapel. Inurnment of ashes will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, with honors conducted by the Hutchinson Fire Department.

The 2022 Jayhawk Conference champion Hutchinson Community College Football team had a total of 30 players on this year's All-KJCCC Football teams, which were released on Thursday.

The Blue Dragons had 14 first-team, four second-team and 12 honorable mention selections, including winners of two of the three major awards presented each season.

For the second time in three seasons, Blue Dragon head coach Drew Dallas was named the KJCCC Coach of the Year. Sophomore running back&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/kedzior_dylan_601l">Dylan Kedzior</a>&nbsp;became the second-straight Hutchinson running back to earn KJCCC Offensive Player of the Year honors. Coffeyville safety Bishop Fitzgerald was named the league's 2022 Defensive Player of the Year.

DYLAN KEDZIOR – 2022 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR After a slow start to the season because of injury, Kedzior came to the rescue for the Blue Dragons at Coffeyville on September 24.

With Hutchinson trailing 9-7 in the fourth quarter, Kedzior entered the game early in the final quarter and had 12 carries for 85 yards and a 3-yard touchdown go-ahead touchdown run with 1:17 remaining to lead the Dragons to a 14-9 win.

That was the launching pad for the third-year 6-foot, 220-pound sophomore from Claremore, Oklahoma.

One week later, Kedzior rushed for a career-high 230 yards and three touchdowns against Butler. Starting with the final quarter against Coffeyville, Kedzior produced 578 yards and six touchdowns over a 13-quarter stretch.

For the season, Kedzior rushed for a league-best 923 yards on 119 carries with nine touchdowns. He is averaging a league-best 7.76 yards per carry.

In Hutchinson's come-from-behind 29-28 season-finale win over No. 4 Iowa Western Kedzior had 212 total yards with 136 rushing yards and 76 receiving yards with a 70-yard touchdown run and 76-yard touchdown reception.

Kedzior is the second-straight Dragon to win Offensive Player of the Year honors, joining Anwar Lewis last season.

DREW DALLAS, HUTCHINSON – 2022 COACH OF THE YEAR The third-year head coach of the Blue Dragons earned his second league Coach of the Year award after running the table in the regular season with a 6-0 league mark and a 10-0 overall record which leads Hutchinson into the postseason as the No. 1 team in the NJCAA.

The Blue Dragons won their third-straight KJCCC championship in a row under Dallas, winning the 2020/21 league title, the 2021 KJCCC Playoff championship and this season's regular-season crown.

The Blue Dragons are currently on a 16-game winning streak and Dallas is off to a 27-2 start at Hutchinson.

The 2022 Blue Dragons ranked first in the Jayhawk Conference in scoring (40.9 ppg), total offense (427.3 ypg) and rushing (194.1 yards per game) and was third in passing (233.2 yards per game).

Defensively, the 2022 Blue Dragons were first in the KJCCC in scoring defense (11.9 ppg) and rushing defense (88.8 ypg), second in total defense (265.0 ypg) and third in pass defense (176.2 ypg). The Dragons were second in quarterback sacks (31) and tied for first with 28 takeaways.

FIRST-TEAM OFFENSE The Blue Dragons had a staggering eight selections on the first team of the all-KJCCC team.

Quarterback&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/laible_dylan_elo2">Dylan Laible</a>&nbsp;earned his second first-team selection. Laible is completing 57.4 percent of his passes for 1,996 yards with 20 touchdowns. Laible is now the Blue Dragons' career passing yards and touchdown pass leader.

In addition to Kedzior, two other Blue Dragon skilled position players earned first-team honors.

Receiver&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/benson_malik_obrm">Malik Benson</a>&nbsp;is now a two-time first-team selection after team highs of 47 receptions for 809 yards and eight touchdowns.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/woods_micah_qrwd">Micah Woods</a>&nbsp;also earned first-team honors after making 26 catches for 435 yards and five touchdowns.

Fullback/H-Back&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/chislom_jamauri_0uay">Jamauri Chislom</a>&nbsp;is a rare three-time first-team All-Conference player. Known mostly for his blocking, Chislom had a career-high four catches for 29 yards in 2022.

Three offensive linemen – sophomore center J'onre Reed, freshman tackle&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/johnson_larry_e6um">Larry Johnson</a>&nbsp;and freshman guard&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/schuster_dez-mond_0ra7">Dez'Mond Schuster</a>&nbsp;– all earned first-team honors.

FIRST-TEAM DEFENSE The Blue Dragons placed five players on the first-team of the All-Jayhawk Defense this season.

<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/boykins_jr_jerrell_eo76">Jerrell Boykins Jr</a>. and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/schofield_jakobe_7fp0">JaKobe Schofield</a>&nbsp;are both defensive tackles who earned first-team honors. Boykins had 17 total tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery. Schofield had 16 tackles with 1.5 quarterback sacks, a pass broken up and a fumble recovery.

Defensive end Nikki Taylor was third in the KJCCC in quarterback sacks with seven. Taylor had 40 total tackles with 15 tackles for loss, five quarterback hurries and a safety.

Linebacker&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/kirksey_terry_evb1">Terry Kirksey</a>&nbsp;is Hutchinson's leading tackler with 68 total tackles, including 28 solo stops. Kirksey had six tackles for loss, 2.5 quarterback sack and a fumble recovery.

Freshman cornerback&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/morris_ja-maric_ynua">Ja'Maric Morris</a>&nbsp;is the second first-team secondary member. Morris had 30 tackles and was fourth in the KJCCC in interceptions with four. Morris also had six passes defended.

FIRST-TEAM SPECIAL TEAMS Freshman kicker&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/segraves_cole_2w5s">Cole Segraves</a>&nbsp;is the final first-team selection. Segraves has had a tremendous season, going 48 of 49 on extra points and 13 of 18 on field goals. Segraves has made his last six attempts.
