HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Amtrak’s SW Chief will be running its daily schedule through the weekend before it is reduced to running three days per week starting Monday.
Amtrak announced it was going to the reduced schedule on the Chief and other long-distance trains because of the downturn in ridership connected to the pandemic.
Under the new schedule, the Chief will depart Chicago on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. That means the train heading west will arrive in Hutchinson on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. Going east, the train will leave Los Angeles on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. That would bring the eastbound train to Hutchinson on Thursday, Saturday and Monday.
The schedule will not change, meaning the eastbound train still arrives at 1:37 a.m. and the westbound arrives at 3:18 a.m.
