
NEWTON, Kan. — A Newton woman died in a house fire late Sunday morning in the 500 block of West Fourth Street, according to authorities.
Newton Fire/EMS crews responded to the scene at approximately 11:30 a.m., where they found the residence engulfed in heavy fire and smoke. Firefighters also encountered an active power line down on the ground as they arrived.
Despite the hazardous conditions, crews entered the structure and located the body of a woman inside the home. She was later identified as Susan Taylor, 74.
Two dogs inside the residence also died in the fire.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, but the home sustained heavy damage.
