Clemon Eugene “Gene” Hamous, 95, of Sterling, passed away March 7, 2022, at the Sterling Village, Sterling. He was born July 19, 1926, in Coushatta, Louisiana, the son of Gene and Florence Williams Hamous.
Gene has resided in Sterling for the past 40 years, formerly of Little River, Kansas. He was a farm manager for Gary Proffitt for many years. Gene served in the United States Army as a staff sergeant from November 21, 1944 until November 29, 1946 during World War II. He loved jogging, bicycling, fishing, hunting, gardening, and taking photos.
On September 28, 1949, Gene was united in marriage with Martha Fern Black in Raton, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on August 16, 2018. He is also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Britton and Maxine Riggs; and nephew, Mark Riggs. Gene is survived by his four daughters, Patricia Frese and husband Daryl of Spring Branch, TX; Karla Nemachek and husband Larry of Hugoton; Christie Mullikin and husband Ridge of San Antonio, TX; and Stacey Wilder and husband Bill of Lyons; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
