TISHOMINGO, Oklahoma – Murray State College has already rolled through a couple of Jayhawk Conference opponents early this season.
The No. 17-ranked Hutchinson Community College softball team didn't fare much better against the NJCAA Division II-No. 2-ranked Aggies on Friday.
Murray State combined for six home runs as the Aggies rolled by the Blue Dragons 18-2 and 8-0 on Friday afternoon.
The Blue Dragons fell to 6-3 overall. Hutchinson wraps up this weekend's trip to Oklahoma and Texas with a Noon doubleheader on Saturday against North Central Texas in Gainesville, Texas.
GAME 1 RECAP
Murray State hit four home runs and broke the game open with a nine-run third inning against four Blue Dragon pitchers.
Trailing 4-0 after two innings, the Blue Dragons got on the board with two runs in the top of the third inning. Grace Sykora had a one-out double and an error moved her to third. Olivia Sandoval reached on a second Aggie error to plate Sykora. Madison Grimes lined out to left for a sacrifice fly to score Preslee Irwin to cut the Dragon deficit to 4-2.
Sykora's double turned out to be the only hit of the game off Murray State pitcher Christina Clark, who tossed a complete game with no strikeouts and only one walk.
Murray State pounded out 14 hits against five Blue Dragon. Kenzie Tuck hit two home runs and drove in five runs to lead the Aggies offensively.
Freshman Korri Lies (1-1) suffered the loss, working two-plus innings.
GAME 2 RECAP
Murray State put the Blue Dragons in a deep, early hole with two runs in the first and five more in the second to build a 7-0 lead.
The Blue Dragons were out-hit 7-3 in the second game.
Aspen Goetz and Allie Stipsits both had doubles and Ella Dougherty had a single.
Morgan Pennycuff (3-1) suffered the line in her fourth start of the season. She was tagged with seven runs and six hits, including two home runs, in her first loss of the season.
