HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County data analyst D.J. Gering is noting that the numbers of COVID cases are growing quickly in Reno County and don't appear to be slowing.
"That median projection would put us at about 537 cases by September 1st," Gering said Wednesday. "The low end of that projection would be around 380."
As a point of reference, on September 1, 2020, Reno County had 130 cases.
"My guess right now is that we're seeing more community spread," Gering said. "Of course, that data might change as well, over the next couple of weeks, when we're able to catch up to the cases that have dropped down this week and late last week."
Community spread at least appears to be fairly even, and not within clusters as it was last year.
"There's no patterns right now with ZIP Codes," Gering said. "They all seem to be increasing relatively at the same rates. On the demographic level, we are seeing more younger people get tested. We are seeing younger people test positive."
The 14-day positive test rate as of last week was at 14.4%. That number should be updated later on Thursday.
