We’re currently seeking a dedicated Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join our leadership team at Thorne Living Center (TLC).
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Nursing is a licensed nurse responsible for assisting the Director of Nursing (DON) in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating resident care and services within our long-term care and skilled nursing unit.
The ADON ensures that the highest practicable level of physical and mental well-being is maintained for all residents while upholding The Wesley’s commitment to excellence and compliance with all state, federal, and organizational regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
- Provide leadership and supervision to nursing staff to ensure quality resident care.
- Collaborate with the DON to maintain adequate staffing coverage at all times.
- Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
- Support and mentor new employees, ensuring they are properly oriented to their roles.
- Step in to perform nursing duties when necessary to ensure quality care delivery.
Infection Prevention
- Serve as the facility’s Infection Preventionist.
- Ensure staff follow all infection control policies, universal precautions, and safe waste disposal procedures.
- Monitor residents displaying infection symptoms and implement appropriate precautions.
- Communicate infection control updates to staff, administration, and other departments.
Resident Care Coordination
- Oversee therapeutic programming and ensure individualized care plans are followed.
- Evaluate resident care, participate in care plan meetings, and communicate changes promptly.
- Address resident and family concerns with professionalism and compassion.
- Respond to and report all incidents, accidents, or medication errors per policy.
- Monitor wound care, coordinate lab work, x-rays, and physician appointments.
- Ensure proper medication and treatment administration and accurate documentation.
- Participate in discharge planning and coordinate admissions, transfers, and dismissals.
Nursing Administration
- Enforce nursing policies and procedures according to regulations and The Wesley standards.
- Assist the DON with survey preparation, compliance reviews, and implementation of new regulations.
- Participate in problem-solving and departmental systems development.
- Delegate responsibilities appropriately based on staff licensure and skill level.
- Maintain a professional, positive image when interacting with residents, families, and colleagues.
Qualifications
- Current Kansas LPN or RN license (required).
- Experience in long-term care and/or nursing management (preferred).
- Certified Infection Preventionist (preferred).
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills related to geriatric care.
- Knowledge of all state and federal regulations for skilled nursing facilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively across departments and with leadership teams.
