Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON – LPN or RN)

Full-Time | Day Shift | Hutchinson, KS Salary Range: $32.70 – $39.00 per hour

We’re currently seeking a dedicated Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join our leadership team at Thorne Living Center (TLC).

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Nursing is a licensed nurse responsible for assisting the Director of Nursing (DON) in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating resident care and services within our long-term care and skilled nursing unit.

The ADON ensures that the highest practicable level of physical and mental well-being is maintained for all residents while upholding The Wesley’s commitment to excellence and compliance with all state, federal, and organizational regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership &amp; Supervision

  1. Provide leadership and supervision to nursing staff to ensure quality resident care.
  2. Collaborate with the DON to maintain adequate staffing coverage at all times.
  3. Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
  4. Support and mentor new employees, ensuring they are properly oriented to their roles.
  5. Step in to perform nursing duties when necessary to ensure quality care delivery.

Infection Prevention

  1. Serve as the facility’s Infection Preventionist.
  2. Ensure staff follow all infection control policies, universal precautions, and safe waste disposal procedures.
  3. Monitor residents displaying infection symptoms and implement appropriate precautions.
  4. Communicate infection control updates to staff, administration, and other departments.

Resident Care Coordination

  1. Oversee therapeutic programming and ensure individualized care plans are followed.
  2. Evaluate resident care, participate in care plan meetings, and communicate changes promptly.
  3. Address resident and family concerns with professionalism and compassion.
  4. Respond to and report all incidents, accidents, or medication errors per policy.
  5. Monitor wound care, coordinate lab work, x-rays, and physician appointments.
  6. Ensure proper medication and treatment administration and accurate documentation.
  7. Participate in discharge planning and coordinate admissions, transfers, and dismissals.

Nursing Administration

  1. Enforce nursing policies and procedures according to regulations and The Wesley standards.
  2. Assist the DON with survey preparation, compliance reviews, and implementation of new regulations.
  3. Participate in problem-solving and departmental systems development.
  4. Delegate responsibilities appropriately based on staff licensure and skill level.
  5. Maintain a professional, positive image when interacting with residents, families, and colleagues.

Qualifications

  1. Current Kansas LPN or RN license (required).
  2. Experience in long-term care and/or nursing management (preferred).
  3. Certified Infection Preventionist (preferred).
  4. Strong assessment and critical thinking skills related to geriatric care.
  5. Knowledge of all state and federal regulations for skilled nursing facilities.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  7. Ability to work effectively across departments and with leadership teams.
