HUTCHINSON, Kan. — HutchCC Fire Science students walked the stairs as part of their firefighter fitness training this week in memorial of the first responders killed on September 11, 2001.

"We will be doing a 9/11 memorial service at the Hutchinson Community College Fire Science campus," said Fire Science instructor Jason Holland. "That would be a flag ceremony at 7 a.m. on Saturday."

The department will also have a memorial at that night's HutchCC-Butler football game.

"Right before the game, we'll drop the flag and do a ceremony there with a trumpet playing Taps," Holland said.

Three hundred forty-three firefighters from the New York Fire Department were killed trying to save others on September 11, 2001.
