WICHITA - In a 14-inning donnybrook at the 88th NBC World Series in Wichita Thursday, the Hutchinson Monarchs season came to a close with a 2-1 loss to the Seattle Studs.

The Monarchs got a single tally in the bottom of the first, with Seattle finding the equalizer in the top of the 2nd, then both teams pitchers settled in and slammed the door, with no further scoring until Seattle broke through in the top of the 14th.

Though Will Maynard was the hard-luck loser on Thursday, he threw seven amazing innings in relief before the Studs won it in the 14th, giving up just four hits and striking out 12 in his eight innings of work.

Roy Robles for the Studs threw five innings of great relief of his own to get the win, giving up just one Monarch hit in that time.

Maynard's 12 K's tied for the sixth most ever by a Monarch hurler.

The 14-inning game was the longest Monarch NBC game ever and the 3rd longest in team history.

Seattle moves on to play Santa Barbara in the late game at Eck Stadium Friday. Hays and Liberal play in the other semifinal.
