Frisco, TX- The Wind Surge blanked the Frisco RoughRiders 4-0 on Wednesday evening as the Surge hit two homers and tallied four 1/3 scoreless innings on the mound from the bullpen to even the series at one game apiece.
Wichita struck first in the top of the first inning as Edouard Julien hit an opposite-field home run to give the Surge an early 1-0 lead. Julien finished two for five with an RBI in the game.
Cody Laweryson got the nod on the hill for the Surge and made his fourth start on the mound where he pitched four and two thirds scoreless innings, allowing zero runs, two hits, two walks, and recorded five strikeouts.
The Surge extended the lead to 2-0 in the top of the sixth inning as Jair Camargo walked with the bases loaded and forced an exit from Frisco starting pitcher Jack Leiter.
Leiter pitched five and two thirds’ innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits and added eight strikeouts and fell to (3-9) on the year.
Austin Martin’s first hit of the series came on a two-out RBI double in the seventh inning that scored DaShawn Keirsey Jr. and stretched Wichita’s lead to 3-0.
The Surge added an insurance run in the ninth inning behind a solo homer from Will Holland that extended the lead to 4-0.
Wichita will remain in first place leading the Springfield Cardinals by six games with 22 remaining.
