HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Cheney Lake is still under a blue-green algae warning for the entire lake after the latest advisories were issued by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

The lake has been under a warning for the past three weeks after the toxic growth was discovered in many places at the lake. The warning means most, if not all, contact with the water should be avoided. Fish may be eaten if they are rinsed with clean water and only the fillet portion is consumed while all other parts are discarded. Do not allow pets to eat dried algae and if lake water contacts skin, wash with clean water as soon as possible.

Marion County Lake is also under a warning. Marion Reservoir is under an algae watch.
