The Hesston Police Chief is moving on.
In a letter posted to social media Friday, Doug Schroeder said that after 20 years as the Hesston Police Chief, he has accepted a position with the State of Kansas.
"We have overcome some tough times as a community and we have also been witness to many success stories during my tenure," Schroeder said. "I can only hope that I leave the Hesston Police Department as good as I found it."
Schroeder noted the amazing, selfless people at the department.
"I hope that you will embrace the next police chief with the same overwhelming support shown to me," Schroeder said. "This is one of the things that makes Hesston such a special place to live."
Schroeder won the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor for his actions to stop Cedric Ford during the mass shooting at Excel Industries in February of 2016.
