NEWTON, Kan. — Tate England cracked the top 20 individually Thursday to lead Hutchinson at the Newton Invitational boys golf tournament at Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
England shot a 7-over-par 79 to tie for 15th, helping the Salthawks finish 11th in the 19-team field with a team score of 348. Hutchinson posted matching rounds of 174 on the front and back nines.
Alex Haas added an 86 for Hutchinson, Landyn Powell carded an 89 and Maks Dreiling finished with a 94 to round out the team score. Kale Drieling followed with a 95 and Teagan England shot 100.
Bishop Carroll won the team title with a 290, edging Maize South by one stroke. Salina Central placed third at 323.
Kaden Leivian of Bishop Carroll earned medalist honors with a 5-under 67, while Maize South’s Joe Binger was second at 68.
Host Newton tied for 14th with Salina South and Liberal at 368. Remington Burke paced the Railers with an 85, which tied for 32nd individually. Rocco Ramos added a 90, Mason Alexander shot 94 and Emrik Torres finished at 99.
Newton’s top four combined for rounds of 182 on the front nine and 186 on the back.
For Hutchinson, England was steady all day with a 40 on the front and a 39 on the back. Haas opened with a 41 before finishing at 86, while Powell recovered from a 46 on the front with a 43 on the back.
