The votes are in—and the community has spoken! The zoo’s two baby skunks have officially been named Kenai and Koda, inspired by Disney’s beloved film Brother Bear.
The naming competition drew enthusiastic participation from zoo supporters, who helped choose from a list of creative options. In the end, Kenai and Koda captured the most hearts, narrowly edging out other contenders.

“We are thrilled with the excitement and support our community has shown,” zoo staff said in a statement. “Kenai and Koda are already making a big impression, and we’re so happy to share this journey with you.”
The two male skunks recently arrived from Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado and will soon become part of the zoo’s animal ambassador team. In this role, they’ll help educate visitors of all ages about wildlife and the importance of conservation.

Zoo officials said the skunks will be introduced gradually to their ambassador duties, giving guests plenty of opportunities to meet them in the months ahead.
“This is about more than just cute names,” the statement continued. “It’s about building connections with animals, inspiring curiosity, and sparking care for the natural world.”
With their names chosen and their new home secured, Kenai and Koda are set to become community favorites for years to come.
