HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The new Reno County Commission District 5 will now have a primary. According to Deputy Elections Clerk Jenna Fager, Tom Collins has filed as a Republican for the seat. Mike Warren has also filed as a Republican. The fifth makes up the southeast part of Hutchinson and a part of Reno County.
There are now at least two competitive primary races for what will be a newly-expanded commission that was voted on and approved by the public.
Mark Reese has filed in the new commission District 4 as a Republican. The new District 4 has its entire boundary in the city of Hutchinson.
Republican Chris Corey and Republican Randy Parks have both filed for Ron Sellers' seat in District 1 after Commissioner Sellers declined to run for another term.
Ron Hirst in District 2 and Daniel Friesen in District 3 are in the middle of their terms that end in 2024.
Reno County commissioners serve four-year terms and must reside within their district boundaries. The filing deadline for commission seats is June 1 at noon. The primary will take place August 2.
