RENO COUNTY, Kan. — Reno County fire officials say a grass fire that began as a controlled burn was contained Friday night after spreading across several hundred acres.

The fire was reported around 1 p.m. in the area of West 43rd Avenue and Sylvia Road, near the Quivira National Wildlife Refuge.

Reno County Fire Administrator Travis Vogt said the burn got out of control and quickly spread, fueled by dry conditions. Multiple agencies responded, including the Hutchinson Fire Department, several Reno County fire districts, and crews from Rice County.
