HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Based on those enrolled thus far, it's been a good year for Hutchinson USD 308.

"Things could change a great deal in the next week, things are still pretty fluid," said Superintendent Mike Folks. "We are up one student from last year at September 20th official count date. We're up about 45 students from when we ended the year in May."

The mask mandate in the schools has not dampened enrollment to any significant amount thus far, Folks said just one student told the virtual school that having masks was the reason for their enrollment there.

"Our numbers of new students are way up as well," Folks said. "Two hundred ninety-two is what was reported to me on Friday. We have about 100 students that were with us last year that have left and moved out of state, but the net gain there looks to be really positive for USD 308."

The official count date for the purposes of school funding is September 20th.
