HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council will consider a proposal from the Wichita YMCA to issue Industrial Revenue Bonds (IRB’s) for the purpose of acquisition, construction, furnishing and equipping a recreational facility to be operated by the YMCA at 20th and Lorraine.

According to agenda documents, the estimated amount of the proposed IRB’s is $36,000,000. The project is an approximately 75,000 square foot health, wellness, and fitness facility to replace the one at 716 E 13th Ave.

The planned YMCA will include a first-class destination aquatics center, indoor track, gymnasium, expanded gymnastics center, fitness center with studios, community room, additional spaces for families to connect, programs that provide safe spaces for youth, and a planned childcare center.

If the proposed IRB’s are issued, the City will become the leaseholder of the property and Greater Wichita YMCA will be the lessee. The City is not responsible for any of the expenses related to the property. Debt service payments are also the sole responsibility of Greater Wichita YMCA. No City funds or taxes are to be used to make debt service payments. In addition, Greater Wichita YMCA is responsible for paying the City’s expenses related to reviewing the bond documents and issuance of the IRB’s.

The Hutchinson City Council meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.
