Wind Surge split doubleheader

The Wind Surge split a doubleheader with the Tulsa Drillers on Wednesday behind home runs from Edouard Julien and DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. in game one.

Louie Varland got the start on the mound for Wichita in game one and had another efficient outing as he pitched five innings and allowed two runs on six hits and tallied four strikeouts to earn the win.

The Surge were led on offense by Edouard Julien and DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. as they each hit home runs to give Wichita a 4-2 lead. Keirsey, Jr. finished the day going two for five with five RBIs.

James Outman hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh for the Drillers that cut the deficit to 7-4 but were unable to capitalize in the seventh inning.

The Surge fell short in game two 4-3 as Kody Funderburk struggled on the mound as he pitched three and two thirds’ innings and allowed three runs on five hits and gave up a two-run homer to Andy Pages in the first inning.

The Surge trailed 4-1 in the sixth inning as DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. hit a two-run RBI single to shrink the deficit to 4-3. Wichita was unable to get a rally in the seventh inning and fell short in game two.

The Surge remain in first place in the division over Tulsa by ½ a game and Arkansas by one game.

The Wind Surge will resume action against the Tulsa Drillers Thursday June 16th for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
