NORTH NEWTON, Kan. — The Kidron Bethel Village Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (D.E.I.) Group will host Brad Richards for a special presentation on civil rights at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 7, in Kidron Hall, 3001 Ivy Dr., North Newton. The presentation is free and open to the public.
Richards is Education Manager and Community Outreach Coordinator at The Kansas African American Museum in Wichita. His presentation, “March Toward Civil Rights,” correlates with the 59th anniversary of Martin Luther King Junior’s historic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama.
The 1965 march was part of a series of civil rights protests which occurred that year over voting rights for Black citizens. The Selma to Montgomery march became famous when it was met with deadly violence.
The Kidron Bethel Village D.E.I. Group is made up of residents and staff who gather monthly to discuss topics around diversity, equity and inclusion and how they affect life at Kidron Bethel Village and in wider society.
