Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The No. 12-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team saw No. 11 Cowley score in the 79th minute as the Tigers held on for a 2-1 Jayhawk Conference victory over the Blue Dragons in the 2025 KJCCC opener for both teams on Wednesday night at the Salthawk Soccer Complex.

The Blue Dragons are now 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the KJCCC. Hutchinson travels to Coffeyville at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Cowley is 1-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the Jayhawk.

In a rematch of last season's Region 6 Tournament championship game, the Blue Dragons and Tigers battled to a scoreless draw in the opening half.

The Tigers scored in the 66th minute when Sara Cortez scored when she deflected a shot of a Dragon defender into the goal for a 1-0 lead.

The Blue Dragons responded and tied the game in the 71st minute when freshman Olivia Tamaki took a Maria Azevedo feed for her second goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1 with 29:29 remaining.

Cowley took a 2-1 lead with 11:06 to play in the game when Mariana Andrade headed home a Sophie Knaab cross.

Cowley out-shot Hutchinson 13-11 and had eight shots on goal to the Dragons' four.

Blue Dragon goalkeeper Evie Carvell (2-1) had a season-high six saves. Cowley keeper Julia Suelly had three saves.
