
Hutchinson CC Sports Information
The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team is set to open the 2025-26 Jayhawk Conference season on Wednesday night.
The first game of the 24-game conference marathon comes against the unbeaten Garden City Broncbusters at 5:30 p.m. at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 5:15 p.m. with Sean Boston (PBP) and Dan Naccarato (color) calling the action. The game will be streamed live and exclusively on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 5:15 p.m.
The defending Jayhawk Conference champion Blue Dragons went 5-1 in the non-conference portion of the schedule. The Dragons come off a pair of impressive victories over Murray State (86-68) and Otero (82-59) last weekend.
Entering conference play, the Blue Dragons are average 77.7 points per game. They are shooting 43.6 percent overall and are shooting 34.6 percent from 3-point range. Defensively, the Blue Dragons are allowing 61.8 points per game with opponents shooting 36.0 percent overall and 37.0 percent from 3-point distance.
Freshman KaMyra Barber is Hutchinson's leading scorer 17.3 points per game. Sophomore Katie Duncan is averaging 14.3 points per game.
The Blue Dragons will be looking for their fourth-straight KJCCC-opening victory. Hutchinson also carries a 15-game winning streak over Garden City entering Wednesday's game.
Hutchinson plays one of the tougher opening weeks of KJCCC play with 5-0 Garden City and 5-0 and No. 14-ranked Butler on the road Saturday.
The Busters come into Wednesday's game off for 10 days after a 77-70 neutral-court win against Otero on November 9 in Liberal.
Garden City 81.0 points per game and is the top team in the Jayhawk Conference in free-throw shooting at 76.3 percent. The Busters are forcing a KJCCC-high 33.8 turnovers per game while giving up 58.2 points per game.
Freshman Sokhna Nidiyae is Garden City's and the KJCCC's leading scorer at 24.0 points per game. Deija Roberson averages 12.4 points per game.
Wednesday's game will be the 102nd all-time meeting between Hutchinson and Garden City. The Blue Dragons are 82-19 against the Broncbusters. The 82 wins are the second most by Hutchinson against a single Blue Dragon opponent.
