The European Union placed tariffs on United States grain imports in retaliation for the United States placing tariffs on steel and aluminum. So, in retaliation, President Trump has threatened to put more retaliatory tariffs on the European Union on imports of champagnes, wines and spirits sent to the U.S.
These tariffs could range as high as 200%, but President Trump said he wouldn't put them on if EU removed the tariffs it imposed on U.S. spirits on Wednesday.
The President still says that these tariffs are reciprocal, and his goal is to make trade with all countries fair and eliminate the trade deficit.
