HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson High School turned in a strong showing Friday at the Hutchinson Track and Field Invitational at Gowans Stadium, highlighted by a pair of runner-up finishes from senior sprinter Camrynn Harris and a distance sweep by junior Avery Tecklenburg.

Tecklenburg delivered one of the top performances of the meet on the girls side, winning the 1,600 meters in 5:33.54 and adding a third-place finish in the 800 at 2:30.36 . Her victory in the 1,600 paced the Salthawks’ distance group and gave Hutchinson its lone event title of the day.

Harris led the Hutchinson boys in the sprints, placing second in the 200 meters in 22.45 seconds and finishing fifth in the 100 in 11.10 . Teammate Davin Morgan added a sixth-place finish in the 200 (23.26) and took third in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, while also contributing across multiple events .

In the field events, Hutchinson’s Corbin Thompson placed 10th in the triple jump (37-7.5) and 14th in the long jump (18-3), while Kajon Harmon led the boys throwers with a 10th-place finish in the discus at 124-9 . Cooper Harris paced the javelin group with a throw of 126-1 to finish 15th.

On the girls side, Leah Foos turned in a solid effort in the triple jump, placing 11th at 32-4.25, and added a 25th-place finish in the 400 meters . Arya Byard led Hutchinson in the throws, placing 22nd in the shot put and 28th in the discus.

Hutchinson also found success in the relays, with the boys 4x100 team finishing third in 43.41 seconds . The girls 4x100 placed eighth, while both 4x400 squads rounded out the evening with top-10 finishes.

Among other highlights, Cristian Medina placed 13th in the boys 1,600 (4:49.32), while Lamar Govain added a top-20 finish in the 400 meters (55.36) .

Garden City, Andale, Wichita Northwest and Salina Central were among the teams that claimed multiple event victories in a deep, competitive field.
