Local residents are being called to action to help support the unhoused with a special donation event set for Friday, June 27.
The “Unhoused Drop Off Drive” will take place at the Avenue A Park Building from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Organizers are collecting new, unopened essential items to stock the shelves of the local homeless shelter.
Donations of hygiene products and daily necessities are especially needed. Requested items include toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, tampons, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, razors, shaving cream, laundry pods, and deodorant. Other helpful donations include socks, bottled water, bandages, sunscreen, chapstick, baby wipes, diapers, diaper rash cream, blankets, backpacks, trash bags, and new underwear.
Volunteers ask that all items be unopened and in good condition. “We’ll take just about anything—except opened or used products,” said a member of the Hutchison Youth Council. “It’s all about giving our unhoused neighbors the dignity and support they deserve.”
All collected goods will be donated directly to the local homeless shelter for immediate distribution.
