HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Repair work on a major storm drainage structure at Avenue C and Elm Street is scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 14.

The City of Hutchinson said the project is tentatively expected to be completed by Thursday, Oct. 1, depending on weather and any unforeseen construction issues.

Crews will complete an extensive repair of a concrete box structure that serves as a primary storm drain for the area. A replacement concrete box is being manufactured by an outside supplier and will be delivered for installation during the project.

Avenue C will remain closed to through traffic between Elm and Maple streets throughout the repairs. Residents living within the closure area will continue to have access to their homes.

Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes, follow posted traffic-control signs and exercise caution around the work zone.

City officials said the project will restore and strengthen an essential part of Hutchinson’s storm drainage system and help provide reliable drainage in the area.
