🏀 MBB: No. 8 Tigers too much for Dragons

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — Hutchinson (16-10, 12-8) managed just 10 points in the first 10 minutes Wednesday night and finished the first half with a season-low 25 points.

No. 8 Cowley (24-3, 19-2) led by as many as 16 in the first half of play behind Shamarrie Hugie's 14 points.

Hugie was one-of-four Tigers in double-digit scoring, he finished with 24 on 10-of-14 shooting.

Marcus Whitlock (17), Avante Nichols (12) and Emarquis Jones (11) also scored in double figures for Cowley.

DJ Dudley and Bobby Cannon struggled early for the Dragons and combined for 0-of-1o shooting in the first half.

The Dragons were outscored 58-34 in the paint and turned the ball over 15 times. Cowley scored 21 points off those turnovers.

Dudley and Cannon gained some momentum in the second half. Dudley finished 5-of-16 with 14 points while Cannon went 4-of-9 for eight points.

Khalil Arnold led Hutchinson with 15 points.

Mikhail Abdul-Hamid went 3-of-8 from distance to finish with 11 points while Isaiah Jackson added 10 with four blocks.

The Dragons made just 5-of-22 three-point attempts (22.7%).

Cowley shot 59.3% for the night.
