HUTCHINSON, Kan. — It was all Maize on homecoming night at Gowans Stadium.
The Eagles spoiled Hutchinson's homecoming celebration Friday, defeating the Salthawks 45-7 behind big plays and four touchdowns from Maize's Pierce George.
Maize got on the scoreboard early after a long kickoff return set up a 36-yard field goal. The Eagles took a 3-0 lead with about three minutes gone in the game.
Hutchinson struggled to sustain drives, and Maize continued to capitalize on its opportunities.
After a Maize kickoff landed in the far corner, the Eagles recovered the ball near the end zone and took possession at the Hutchinson 2-yard line. George finished the short drive with a rushing touchdown, and a successful two-point conversion extended Maize's lead to 18-0.
George scored four touchdowns in the game as the Eagles continued to control the pace and pull away from the Salthawks.
Hutchinson's lone touchdown came on the final play of the game when junior quarterback Davin Morgan connected with senior wide receiver Lamar Govain on a 23-yard touchdown pass.
Govain, who was crowned homecoming king before the game, hauled in his seventh receiving touchdown of the season.
At halftime, Hutchinson announced its 2026 fall homecoming queen, Kinsley Koestel.
The Salthawks (1-4) will return to Gowans Stadium next Friday for senior night against Salina Central (3-2).
