
LARNED, Kan. — Hutchinson Central Christian turned in a sixth-place finish and Lyons placed seventh Tuesday at the Larned High School varsity boys golf tournament at Edwards Park Golf Course.
Central Christian shot a team total of 372, led by a strong day from Cael Kooiman, who finished fourth individually with an 80. Tyler Reed also cracked the top 10 for the Cougars, placing seventh with an 84, as Central Christian finished ahead of Lyons in the nine-team standings.
Lyons posted a team score of 393 and was paced by Noah Geeves, who tied for 21st with a 92. Easton Benavidez added a 96 to finish 25th, while Derek Valerio carded a 99 and Elijah Lyon shot 106 for the Lions’ scoring four.
Hoisington won the team title with a 338, followed by Russell at 348 and Thomas More at 354. Pratt was fourth at 360, Larned took fifth at 365, Central Christian was sixth at 372, Lyons finished seventh at 393, St. John-Hudson was eighth at 463 and Stafford placed ninth at 465.
Jake Mooney of Russell earned medalist honors with a 75. Hoisington’s Logan Cossel was second with a 78, and Larned’s Brennon Stahlecker placed third with a 79.
For Central Christian, Kooiman opened with a 40 on the front nine to put himself in contention near the top of the leaderboard, while Reed followed with an 84 after a steady round that kept the Cougars in the middle of the team race. Adam Eigsti added a 102, Bruce Wilson shot 106 and Karson Sullivan finished with a 111. Bo Hobbes also competed and carded a 122.
Lyons leaned on a balanced group behind Geeves, whose 92 was the best score for the Lions. Benavidez followed with a 96, Valerio came in at 99 and Lyon shot 106. Alex Landeros rounded out Lyons’ lineup with a 108.
Central Christian placed two golfers inside the top seven individually, one of the better one-two finishes in the field, while Lyons had three golfers break 100 as it held off the bottom two teams in the standings.
