HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council reorganized for 2021 on Tuesday and Steve Garza was elected Mayor, with Sara Bagwell as Vice-Mayor for 2021.
"Not in my wildest dream as a kid living here did I think I would be mayor of Hutchinson, Kansas," Garza said Tuesday. "It's an honor to be mayor of Hutchinson, Kansas, a city that I love very much. When I was a child, my dad was in the Air Force and we'd come here every summer to visit my grandparents. I've been all over the United States with the Air Force as a child. I always told my dad, when I would leave Hutchinson, Kansas, I used to beg him, just bring me back to Hutchinson. This is a great place to live."
Bagwell is looking forward to what the City can do going forward.
"I just wanted to, I guess, say thank you, for electing me to a leadership role as Vice-Mayor," Bagwell said. "We are starting a new year and I know that we have some planning, strategic planning ahead and I just look forward to that, and just God bless everyone and I hope that 2021 will be the year that we can put 2020 behind us."
The strategic planning meeting for the city is scheduled for February 20.
