The Hutchinson Fire Department responded to a gas leak in mid-town.
Fire officials say that shortly before 8 a.m. Friday, they were dispatched to a residence in the 1300 block of North Walnut. When they arrived they were told that a contractor working at the location had struck a gas line while excavating.

At one point, the fire department had blocked Thirteenth Street and Fourteenth Street between Main Street and Poplar Street while Kansas Gas worked to repair the struck gas line.
The fire department tells us that gas service is currently off but will be restored when the gas line is repaired.
