DERBY, Kan. — Derby High School’s girls and Maize High School’s boys emerged as team champions at the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division I track and field championships Friday at Panther Stadium. Hutchinson High School had a strong showing in several events, highlighted by senior Camrynn Harris’ victory in the boys 100-meter dash.
Harris clocked 11.00 seconds in the final, edging Derby’s Elijah Cross. He also placed third in the 200 meters at 23.04 seconds and anchored a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters (54.24).
Hutchinson’s field athletes contributed significant points. Senior Daniel Boone took fourth in the boys long jump (21-3.25) and sixth in the triple jump (40-1), while senior Kaleb Cape earned third in the boys shot put (43-8) and ninth in the discus (121-9). Jaiden May added a top-10 finish in both events.
On the girls side, Hutch’s top performances came from senior KeiRre Martinez, who took third in the long jump with a mark of 16-6.25, and junior Madalyn Moore, who placed fifth in the triple jump at 34-0.75.
Avery Tecklenburg delivered in the distance events, placing third in the 1600 meters (5:45.01) and fourth in the 800 (2:34.17). Coryn Knackstedt also added a seventh-place finish in the 800.
In throwing events, senior Kyndra Gaines placed third in the discus (100-9) and seventh in the shot put (28-0.50), while Brianna Bueford added an eighth-place discus mark and eighth in javelin.
Other top-10 finishes included Emma Wittekind’s fourth-place time in the girls 400 (1:03.52), Myleigh Mueller’s tie for fourth in the high jump (4-10), and Layni Hagley’s 11th-place effort.
Derby’s girls won the team title with 133 points, while Hutchinson finished sixth with 33. Salina South (114) and Valley Center (108) rounded out the top three.
