Two members of the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team were named Jayhawk Conference Division I Volleyball Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
Freshman outside hitter Giovanna Monteiro was named the KJCCC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Freshman setter Klaudia Bilinksa was named the league's Setter of the Week.
The Blue Dragons, who moved into the national rankings at No. 20 on Monday, went 2-1 last week with a road victory at No. 10 Dodge City in five sets.
Monteiro, a freshman outside hitter from Uberlandia, Brazil, averaged 4.08 kills and hit .333 to lead the surging Blue Dragons.
Over 13 sets, Monteiro had 53 total kills and had three double-doubles to lead the Blue Dragons. In a five-set loss to No. 7 Colby, Monteiro had 16 kills and 10 digs. In a five-set road win at No. 10 Dodge City, Monteiro had 23 kills and a career-high 24 digs.
She completed the week with 14 kills and 11 digs in a sweep over Butler. Monteiro is current second in the KJCCC with 4.04 kills per set.
Monteiro was also named KJCCC Offensive Player of the Week in Week 2.
Bilinksa, a freshman setter from Wroclaw, Poland, averaged 10.23 assists per set and posted two double-doubles
Bilinksa led the Blue Dragons to a 3-2 road win at No. 10 Dodge City last Wednesday with a career-best 55 assists and a double-double with 13 digs against the Conquistadors. Bilinksa also had a double-double on a five-set loss to No. 7 Colby, where she had 48 assists and 12 digs.
For the week, Bilinksa averaged 2.15 digs and had six kills, three service aces and four total blocks.
