
NEWTON, Kan. — Three area companies will benefit from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) investment into renewable energy products.
Kansas Ethanol LLC of Lyons will receive $250,000 that will be used to purchase and install equipment for combined heat and power along with ethanol dehydration. The project is estimated to generate 67,113 kWh per year, which is enough energy to power six homes.
In Newton, Horn's Auto Repair, 4x4, and Welding LLC will get $5,559 that will be used to purchase and install a 9kW roof-mounted solar array. This project will replace 13,654 kWh of power per year, which is enough electricity to power one home.
Millaturn Machine LLC of Newton and Harper will receive $19,875 to be used to purchase and install a 15 kW wind turbine. The turbine is estimated to replace 62,923 kWh per year, which is enough electricity to power five homes.
The three projects are part of $471,000 invested by the USDA for farmers, ag producers and rural based businesses in Kansas.
