TOKYO — Former Sterling High School standout and Nebraska All-American Tyus Wilson placed sixth in the men’s high jump Tuesday at the World Athletics Championships, clearing a season-best 2.28 meters (7 feet, 5 ¾ inches).
Wilson, who captured gold at the NACAC Championships in The Bahamas last month with a mark of 2.24 meters (7-4 ¼), entered Tokyo coming off a string of major victories. He also won the U.S. Outdoor Championships in July, securing his spot on the American team.
The 2025 season has added to an already decorated career for Wilson. Competing for Nebraska, he was a five-time All-American and the 2025 NCAA indoor champion in the high jump. He finished runner-up at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships and swept Big Ten Conference titles indoors and outdoors the past two years. Wilson earned two Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year awards and was twice named an Academic All-American.
The 2021 Sterling High School graduate was a multi-sport athlete in football, basketball and track. He was ranked the nation’s No. 1 high school high jumper in 2020 and 2021, set a personal best of 7-3, and was named Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year.
