Bonnie Mae Bailey, 74, of Medicine Lodge, passed away Wednesday, July 27th at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on December 2, 1947 in Dodge City, the daughter of Kenneth and Jeanne (Sinclair) Cowles.
Bonnie married Bill Bailey on July 30, 1966 in Jetmore.
Bonnie was a 1965 graduate of Jetmore High School, Jetmore, and attended Salt City Business School in Hutchinson. Bonnie and Bill moved to Medicine Lodge, in 1973. While her children were growing up, you would find her at every sporting event, every rodeo event, and at the sale barn looking for that prize goat! For years, Bonnie and Bill owned the Gyp Hills Lounge and Motel (where Martina McBride got her start). Bonnie later became a job coach at Arrow Head West.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Kenny and Jeanne, her in-laws, Chet and Alice Bailey, and brother-in-law John Bailey. She leaves behind her pride and joy – her family. Surviving are her husband, William “Bill” Arthur Bailey of the home; three sons, Justin (Lori) Bailey of Sawyer; Dustin (Mitzi) Bailey of Kingman; and Landon (Lacie) Bailey of Gultry, OK; four grandchildren, Montana Shae, Rilee Swink, Dakota Weippert, and Blazi Weippert; two great-grandchildren, Skylyn and Eli; one sister, Kathy (Bill) Hixon of Tahlequah, OK; sister-in-law, Brenda (Bailey) Gassen; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 31 from 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with family being present from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, KS 67104.
Graveside services will be at the Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, on Monday, August 1st at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Mark Ollenberger officiating.
