Richard ‘Dick’ Dale Sims, 92, passed away March 1, 2022, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. He was born July 7, 1929, near Abbyville, to Andrew Johnson and Delphia Elizabeth (Lantz) Sims.
Dick was a 1946 graduate of Abbyville High School. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Dick worked at Cessna (Eaton Corporation) as a Production Control Manager, retiring with over 42 years of service.
After retirement, he and his wife, Karen, enjoyed traveling in their RV. Dick liked to fish and farm, but the activities that brought him the greatest joy were when he was spending time with his family.
He was a member of the South Hutchinson Lions Club, the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, Hutchinson, Good Sams Camping Club, and the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church.
On February 14, 1959, Dick married Karen Kae Marsh, in Abbyville. They shared over 63 years of marriage.
He is survived by: his wife, Karen Sims of South Hutchinson; children, Denise Hulse of South Hutchinson, Robin (Tim) Yates of Hutchinson, and Kristian (Trisha) Sims of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Amanda Hoschouer, Jessica Yagel, Brian Sims, Jr., Brandi Sims, Joseph Yates, Jacob Yates, Jeremy Yates, Jon Yates, Madison Sims, and Kolton Sims; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Louise Skiles and Audrey Seaton; and brothers, Andrew J. (Mollie) Sims, Jr., Jerry (Pat) Sims, and Steve (Carol) Sims.
Dick was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Brian Sims; sister, Helen Rose; and brother, Gordon Sims.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with the Reverend Mike Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 3, and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2022, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
