HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council will meet Monday evening with a wide-ranging agenda that includes proposed water service extensions to two subdivisions, replacement of the Hutchinson Sports Arena wood floor and a discussion on the city’s brick streets.
The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Hutchinson City Hall.
Two public hearings will focus on proposed extensions of city water service to the Foothill Estates and Lakeview Hills subdivisions. The council will consider approving State Revolving Fund loan applications associated with the projects.
The city recently held neighborhood meetings with residents of both subdivisions to discuss the proposed waterline extensions. Residents will have another opportunity Monday to provide comments directly to council members before action is considered.
The council is also scheduled to close a public hearing concerning the Meadows on Monroe Rural Housing Incentive District and development plan.
Another major item involves the Hutchinson Sports Arena. Council members will consider replacement of the arena’s wood floor along with a cost-share agreement for the project. The Sports Arena is used by Hutchinson Community College and for other community and athletic events.
Brick streets will also return to the council agenda for discussion. The issue comes as the city prepares to put additional money toward brick street maintenance. The recently approved 2027 city budget directs $200,000 from former stormwater funds toward brick streets and pavement markings. Hutch Post
Hutchinson has more than 282 miles of paved streets, including asphalt, concrete and brick streets. The city has previously cited the additional expense involved in repairing brick streets because deterioration often requires work on the underlying base before bricks can be reset.
