The second-highest scoring team in the NJCAA comes into the Sports Arena as the Jayhawk Conference-opening opponent for the Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragon men's basketball team.

The Blue Dragons (5-1) will meet the Broncbusters (5-1) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

The game will be broadcast live beginning at 7:15 p.m. on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) with Sean Boston (PBP) and Dan Naccarato (color) calling the action. The game will also be streamed exclusively on the Blue Dragon Sports Network at 7:15 p.m.

The Blue Dragons have a tough challenge to open the 2025-26 conference season. After facing Garden City and its 113.5 point scoring average, the Blue Dragons travel to play Butler, the No. 3 scoring team in the nation at 108.8 points per game on Saturday.

The Blue Dragons' KJCCC fourth-ranked scoring defense will be put to the test. Hutchinson is allowing 67.7 points per game. The Dragons have yet to surrender 75 points or more in a single game this season.

Hutchinson had a full week to prepare for Garden City, last playing in a 79-55 win over Labette last Wednesday at the Sports Arena. The Blue Dragons held Labette to 21 points in the second half to break open a three-point halftime lead.

Through six games, the Blue Dragons are scoring 84.8 points per game while shooting 49.2 percent from the field, including 35.9 percent (2nd in the KJCCC) from 3-point range.

Sophomore guard Kyrell Shaw is the Dragons' leading scorer and is the league's fifth-leading scorer at 20.5 points per game. Bobby Cannon is averaging 17.8 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

Garden City is under new leadership this season as former Hutchinson head coach Tommy DeSalme took over in Garden City.

DeSalme and the Busters started the season 5-0 before being upset by North Platte Community College 91-77 last Wednesday in North Platte, Nebraska.

Before the North Platte game, Garden City had back-to-back games of 152 points against the Bethany College JV and 128 points against Otero.

Devonte Reed is the top Garden City scorer and fourth-leading scorer in the KJCCC at 20.7 points per game while shooting 53.7 percent from the field.
