SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a woman for an April Fool's Day prank.
Just after 8:30 a.m. Thursday, police responded to report of a shooting at a home in the 4800 block of East Arlene in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson. Multiple officers responded to the call along with the Wichita Fire Department and Sedgwick County EMS.
Officers surrounded the home, blocked streets, and attempted to make contact with anyone inside. After they were not able to contact anyone, officers wearing shields and with weapons drawn, broke down the door.
Through further investigation, it was learned that 58-year-old Arnthia Willis of Wichita had called a family member claiming to be shot as an April fool’s joke. The family member called 911.
Police in Derby located Willis and arrested her without incident.
Willis was booked and remained in jail overnight on a charge of unlawful request for emergency service assistance in violation of K.S.A. 21-6207(b3), according to Davidson.
Wichita Polict Lt. Ron Hunt said the prank was dangerous and the woman could face charges. The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.
