🏀 Salthawks split with Maize

MAIZE, Kan. — The Hutchinson Salthawks earned a split with the Maize Eagles on Friday night. 

The Hutchinson girls were victorious over the Eagles 40-23.

The Salthawks, now 10-6 got another strong game from Kaia Smith with 20 points to lead both teams in scoring. Grace Posch scored 13, Ava Krone two, Rachel Tomac two plus 12 rebounds, Kolbie Craft two and Azariah Dawes with one point.

Maize was led in scoring by Charlotte Kerbs and Brynley Smith with seven points each. Adley Pierce scored five and Rylee Frye scored two points.

In the boys game, it twas deja-vu from two weeks ago as the Salthawks led by eight at the half 20-12, but Maize owned the third quarter to score 12 unanswered points to storm ahead 32-29 going into the final quarter. Maize High's Alec Grill scored all of his 15 points in the second half as did Brayden Myovela with 12 points to lead the Eagles in scoring.

Alan Hanna added 11 including two thunderous dunks in the final quarter as Maize seemed to have an answer for every Hutchinson basket in the second half.

Terrell King led the Salthawks in scoring with 12, Jax Heneha had another solid night with 11. Tai Clark and Taishaun Govain each scored six. Julian Smith scored three in limited minutes, while Daylee VanSycle scored two.

Hutch High, now 12-4 return home to face undefeated Maize South on Tuesday. Maize 9-7, host Arkansas City. Both teams head into the final two weeks of the regular season with next week's games.
